A much needed replacement, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Timex Men's T56442 Ironman Triathlon 30-Lap Shock Resistant Watch (Watch)
After owning my previous Timex for about 7 years before the battery wore out, it was definitely time to replace the entire watch. After a bit of research, I decided I wanted to get something that had a bit stronger face in an effort to prevent scratches. It seemed like there were a ton of the Ironman Triathlon watches out there and the only difference I could see was the look.
The watch is a bit larger than my previous one, but not so large as to be cumbersome. The display is clear and easy to read. I recently discovered that the Indiglo button actually glows a bit, making it easier to see in the dark. Another feature I like is that, when the button is pressed, the face stays illuminated for a couple of seconds after you let go.
The band is comfortable and even though the face sticks out a bit more, I haven't seemed to catch it on anything more than normal. The velcro is certainly easy to take on and off, but I would caution anyone who wears a velcro band to be aware that they can fray your shirt sleeve a bit. I have several dress shirts that are frayed at the cuff from rubbing against the velcro. Of course, I probably shouldn't have been wearing a sport watch with a dress shirt, but that has since been remedied. :)
The only thing I don't like about this watch (that I've noticed so far), is that Timex has changed the second time zone feature. It used to be that you could set the time for second zone and it was in the queue as you scrolled through the different interfaces. If you went somewhere else and needed that second time, you could just scroll to it and leave it there. On this particular watch, you can set the second zone, but the only way to see it is to hold down a button (and it's not even an intuitive button). On a recent trip, it wasn't worth the time to hold the button in - I could just calculate the correct time in my head with less effort.
Other than that, it appears to be a great watch and I hope that it gives me the same great length of service that my old one did.

Great watch: but don't get Velcro strap, April 4, 2007
This review is from: Timex Men's T56442 Ironman Triathlon 30-Lap Shock Resistant Watch (Watch)
I like this watch. I received it as a gift from my wife. it's lightweight and I've gotten great use out of it while running. I trained for a marathon and was able to mark out miles with the "lap" function to time my splits. My one complaint is the velcro strap. I'd recommend getting the model with the plastic strap. The velcro/cloth strap doesn't hold up to the sweat and wear and tear of running. Within a week it looked really worn and the "Ironman" logos on the strap had even worn off.

Nice watch, but Bulky, March 27, 2007
This review is from: Timex Men's T56442 Ironman Triathlon 30-Lap Shock Resistant Watch (Watch)
I like this watch, but I would mention that it is fairly large for a sports watch. It's much bigger than the non "Shock" version that I replaced. The extra size is in the thickness. Other than that, its really nice. I like the velcro strap and the fact that it weighs almost nothing.
