Ironman...what do you expect,

This review is from: Timex Men's T5G801 Ironman 50-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
This is a traditional Ironman watch. It has all the traditional Ironman functions, but with an updated look. I got this watch as a gift. I picked this watch because of the Ironman name and its look. I have not been disappointed with any aspect of this watch. It's classy enough to wear with a suit (which I do) or just everyday use.
Some reviewers have complained about the band or leaking. I have not experienced any of these problems; in fact, I have not had any problems with this watch. It's a great watch. ***UPDATE*** Almost six months later and it's still looking great. There are almost no scratches on the band and the face is still clean. ***UPDATE*** Almost 2 years later and the watch is still going strong and looking great. Some of the reviews have commented on the watch band being too big. As someone with big hands/wrists, I have appreciated the size. I did have to have a single segment removed, but I did this myself as anyone can do. Take a thumb tack, small nail, straighten a paper clip, or some other straight item and poke it in the hole...it's not rocket science. If you can't figure it out or don't want to mess with it, Wal-Mart usually does this for free as do a number of other places. Giving a lower rating based on the band being too big is silly; it's better than it being too small and needing to purchase a band that fits.

Very nice and dependable watch. I bought SIX of them for some of my employees as a bonus gift and they are very happy with this watch. They look "sporty" and at the same time elegant.

This is about the 4th Timex Ironman that I have owned. Since they are pretty cheap I just buy a new one instead of changing the battery, replacing the band, etc.
The switches work pretty good and I use the stopwatch function all the time to time things. I also use the 2 time zone feature whenever I fly across time zones (Just press 1 button and hold to switch to other time zone). The light is OK but could be better.

I searched for a long time to find a new watch that matched my old Timex for the display characteristics I wanted. The only watches I could find had plastic straps but this model had a steel band. Yes, I could have purchased a steel band but even though the plastic strap models were less expensive, the total cost would be about the same.
This is a great watch. Has every feature I wanted and a few more. I especially like the up/down setting feature without having to go completely around the dial as with most watches. The time display is larger than most and the backlighting is superb. Displaying the second time zone is as simple as pressing the chrono "start/lap" button for less than 2-3 seconds. Longer than that and it locks in the T2 mode which I find very handy for shortwave listening with T2 set at GMT. Just press again to return to local time. Neat. I had to remove two links from the band but that was an easy task (Hint: use a 1mm drill bit as a pin punch). I just hope my friends don't notice it is an "Ironman" watch :)

I bought this watch, because I had the same watch with a rubberband, which broke often and I was tired to replace it. I found this watch and I never had a better one. It is very easy to handle, got everything I need - timer, worldtime, countdown, alarm, indiglo-light etc. It is water-resistant and now also "unbreakable". Of course it is heavier as the one with the rubberband, but that is normal and after a moment of wearing it I got used to it. So if you think of buying this watch - go ahead and order it you will not regret it.

quality,

Band can be adjusted, though not that easily (I had a jeweler remove some links). Once you get it tight on your wrist it feels pretty good on runs. I raced a ten miler wearing it once and I got an annoying little sore spot on my wrist. Steel is probably not the ideal running watch band material, but I like the look and the presumed durability. Weight is not really the issue, it just rubs if you don't get it tightened down enough. All functions are easy to use and work well. I just ran 12 miles with it quite comfortably today. Would buy again.

Bought mine in Dec 2006 and have loved it as it has everything I need as a coach. However I was in a three-foot deep swimming pool for about 2 minutes the other day and the LCD display is now unreadable. I am very surprised by this as the watch is supposed to be WR to 100 meters. I have regularly been swimming with it on with no ill-effects. I thought it would last longer than 17 months. Waiting to hear what Timex have to say.

Wanted a dress watch with a digital face, and this was the one. The band is really big, and it needs to be made shorter by a jeweler for a few bucks. This Ironman name really has my approval.

Good Watch with band issue,

This watch originally had a plastic or resin band that broke frequently, every few months, and the replacement band is stainless. It works fine except for the dim night light feature. The band does not appear to fit as well as it should and thus pops off. The band and watch have a poor fit where the pin inserts to secure the band and watch together. Other than that, it works very well.
Given all the posted complaints with the resin bands and pins failing on the stainless bands you have to wonder why Timex does not care to fix either issue. As much as I like the durability of the timepiece, that band problems make it hard to recommend. You should not have to buy a Rolex to get a watch that remains on your wrist.
