1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed interface for reset, August 13, 2009
This review is from: Timex T5G811 Marathon Stopwatch (Sports)
This stopwatch isn't optimized for a simple start/stop/reset operation. So if you want to simply record duration of an event like a rest period for sets at the gym, this is horrid. In order to reset you hold the middle button(which is difficult to hold) for about 3-4 seconds. I usually accomplish this by smashing the stopwatch against a hard object rather than punish my finger with the extremely hard to press center button. This should really be a SINGLE touch.

I'm very disappointed with this product, for that reason. It's also kinda huge.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good value for a stopwatch, August 24, 2009
This review is from: Timex T5G811 Marathon Stopwatch (Sports)
This Timex is one of only a few stopwatches commonly available, as best I can tell. It has proven quite durable, despite my subjecting it to extremely heavy use. I do voiceover professionally, much of my work is for TV promos, and they must all be timed accurately. This means that my stopwatch is in heavy use all day, five or more days per week. The currently unavailable Casio's that I previously used were easier to use and ergonomically superior, in that the reset function was instant, as opposed to this Timex, which requires that the reset button be depresed and held for about five seconds to actually reset the watch. Another peculiarity is that hitting the reset button a second time after holding it down to reset the timer, puts the stopwatch into "automatic" mode, which I do not understand, need or use, but which causes the device to behave in a bizarre fashion until you figure out what's happening, once again stop, then reset, the tap the reset button again to take it out of automatic mode. These two things make it annoying to use with some regularity, but it is a robust device and not terribly expensive. It also has the virtue of being one of the few stopwatches that are available at the moment. If you intend to use it in connection with audio recording, note that the device beeps upon pushing the buttons, so you will need to do as I have and get a watch shop to silence the beeps, otherwise it will interfere with recording. It would be wonderful if Timex were to modify the firmware so as to allow turning off the sounds and making the reset instantaneous. With either of those changes I'd give it 4 stars and with both, I'd give it 5.

I have had this for about 4 months. I got it for exercise but have found a number of other uses for it since then as well, from cooking to studying. I've been happy with it. It does everything I wanted it to and I haven't found the operation of it to be troublesome or difficult. I read over the instruction sheet once to find out how it's supposed to work and what all of the features do. It's not great literature but I don't recall having trouble understanding it. It does take a couple of seconds holding the middle button to reset it as other have mentioned. That's not a big deal to me, but something to be aware of if that might be an issue for you. Numbers are large and easy to read, good contrast on the display and Indiglo feature nicely illuminates if lighting is dim. It feels well-made and sturdy. Buttons are large and easy to press. Built-in lanyard is nice. I'd buy again without hesitation. Your mileage may vary.

Nice font, big stopwatch, comfotable hold in hand, but the reset button for the basic stopwatch function needs to be held for a couple of seconds in order to reset...I needed that to be instant so I had to send it back.

1.0 out of 5 stars unreliable, July 29, 2010

This watch has so many features that it has trouble doing its main job as a stopwatch. It gets locked into some feature, somehow, that you don't want, that you did not ask to run, you cannot get out of that feature until you have to take off the six tiny screws in the back, remove the batteries, held by yet two tinier screws, being careful not to lose them, and reset the watch internally after replacing the batteries. This started just after the no-return deadline. If you want or need a stopwatch don't get one with any more unneeded features that mysteriously override the one you really need and asked for: an event timer. I bought it based on Timex longevity in watches, and am extremely disapointed.

I can do the job of taking it apart without going to a jeweler, as they recommend, but who needs that? I have better things to do with my time, and will replace this with a single function watch. I was timing an important event, and coould not STOP the timer, it having switched to a different mode, until an hour later when I got home and took it apart. Do not buy this device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timex Stopwatch, February 3, 2011

I use this stopwatch only in the chrono function and find it very easy to read, big numbers. Does splits and the recall function works well. Lots of other functions that I don't use. Good price. Best feature is big numbers easy to read for someone with failing eyesight.

I bought it because of the backlight (which works great for late night jogs). The other features are also great and easy to use. I love this stop watch.

We have used several other brands of stop watches for our testing program and they have had nearly the same cost as Timex. These have functioned perfectly each time and the reliability is wonderful. js

1.0 out of 5 stars This time-piece is a waste of time!, August 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Timex T5G811 Marathon Stopwatch (Sports)
For the price of the product, you would think the stopwatch would let you view/save split times- it does not. The face has high visibility in both day or night (Indiglo) and the stopwatch is massive- you can use it as a personal defense tool (if you need to throw it at an assailant), but the price is too much. Don't waste your time on this product!
