I'm on my third metal banded Ironman,
By Wings42 (San Diego, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Timex Men's T5H971 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel and Resin Sports Watch (Watch)
I love this watch and the previous similar models.
Pros: It keeps accurate time, Looks good, Is waterproof even in the shower, diving, or surfing, Is light weight, The Indiglo light is great, The functions are easy to use, You don't need the manual to figure it out, unlike Casio, Stainless steel band looks great and lasts for years. Band is easy to adjust compared to Casio. The price is low so you can just buy a new one when the battery goes, The battery lasts for years if you don't use the light or alarm too much, I'm very active and hard on watches. As they say, it takes a linkin' and keeps on tickin'. Cons: The band is stainless steel but the silver color on the watch is just silver paint on plastic. It wears away by the time the battery fades. That's ok with me because I just buy a new watch anyway.

Poor Band Design,
By R. Nykster "Rob" (Alabama) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Timex Men's T5H971 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel and Resin Sports Watch (Watch)
I've been through three of these watches. The band is poorly design and they have an unusually small pin connection to the watch. The cheap plastic on the watch breaks at the connection. I love this watch but seem to have designed it to fall apart so you have to keep buying new ones. It's junk.

An ideal watch for an active person,
By Ursa Minor (Salt Lake City, UT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Timex Men's T5H971 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel and Resin Sports Watch (Watch)
I bought my first Ironman more than 20 years ago. Since then I have replaced the watch each time the battery runs down, about every 4 or 5 years, because by then it is looking fairly worn (in particular, some DEET sprays can damage the finish). I have used it while swimming, sailing, snowshoeing, pouring concrete, gardening, and so on, in climates ranging from the humid tropics to the desert. Never any problems. I like the stainless steel band with its snap lock, rather than a buckle. It fits well, thanks to an easy pin adjustment, and I have never found it to be insecure. The firmware features have steadily improved over time, without getting too complicated or sacrificing durability, and I think that this watch is outstanding value.Update: I downgraded the rating from 5 stars to 4, made up of 5 for the watch itself and 3 for the band. I had to shorten the band, and found that using the shorter positions on the snap clip made the fastener stick out and catch on things. So I had to remove two links. I have done this before with no problems, but the design now requires one to drive out the fasteners, which are very thin split pins. Reassembling the band, which requires aligning these pins and driving them home, is extremely difficult to do without damaging them. I consider myself pretty handy, but this really needs to be done by a jeweler. I wish I had been warned in advance by Timex tech support.
