1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Band Design
I've been through three of these watches. The band is poorly design and they have an unusually small pin connection to the watch. The cheap plastic on the watch breaks at the connection. I love this watch but seem to have designed it to fall apart so you have to keep buying new ones. It's junk.

I love this watch and the previous similar models.

Pros:
It keeps accurate time,
Looks good,
Is waterproof even in the shower, diving, or surfing,
Is light weight,
The Indiglo light is great,
The functions are easy to use,

Stainless steel band looks great and lasts for years.
Band is easy to adjust compared to Casio.
The price is low so you can just buy a new one when the battery goes,
The battery lasts for years if you don't use the light or alarm too much,
I'm very active and hard on watches. As they say, it takes a linkin' and keeps on tickin'.

Cons:
The band is stainless steel but the silver color on the watch is just silver paint on plastic. It wears away by the time the battery fades. That's ok with me because I just buy a new watch anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars An ideal watch for an active person, November 22, 2011

I bought my first Ironman more than 20 years ago. Since then I have replaced the watch each time the battery runs down, about every 4 or 5 years, because by then it is looking fairly worn (in particular, some DEET sprays can damage the finish). I have used it while swimming, sailing, snowshoeing, pouring concrete, gardening, and so on, in climates ranging from the humid tropics to the desert. Never any problems. I like the stainless steel band with its snap lock, rather than a buckle. It fits well, thanks to an easy pin adjustment, and I have never found it to be insecure. The firmware features have steadily improved over time, without getting too complicated or sacrificing durability, and I think that this watch is outstanding value.

Update: I downgraded the rating from 5 stars to 4, made up of 5 for the watch itself and 3 for the band. I had to shorten the band, and found that using the shorter positions on the snap clip made the fastener stick out and catch on things. So I had to remove two links. I have done this before with no problems, but the design now requires one to drive out the fasteners, which are very thin split pins. Reassembling the band, which requires aligning these pins and driving them home, is extremely difficult to do without damaging them. I consider myself pretty handy, but this really needs to be done by a jeweler. I wish I had been warned in advance by Timex tech support.

I love the watch and all of it's funtions. The only downfall is the band is not near as good as the watch. I had problems after the first month. I will use duct tape and tape it to my wrist just to keep the watch.

I had to replace my Ironman that was USB capable and connectable to a computer for contact lists and schedules. No one makes such a watch anymore. I finally decided on this Ironman. It has 3 time zones - great when you travel world wide as it is easy if you preset it for the zone you will be in. The "occasion" directory allows a variable advance alarm for birthdays, anniversaries, whatever ... but you cannot tag them with any text. That works if you are only brain dead on the exact day and don't have conflicting occasions in a month, even then it at least alerts you to check your definitive source. The band was easy to adjust AFTER I surfed the WEB. Use a thumbtack to knock the pins out of the links in the direction of the arrows on these links to remove a link. Put the pin back in the reverse direction. I did go on the WEB to find an online copy of the instructions to program the watch, cut out useful info, paste it into powerpoint (or whatever you favor) to create concise instructions for when I travel. This watch is better than most for intuitive changes, but without directions you may get lost. But I always carry some sort of directions for electronics when I travel. How to program my alarm clock (it has multiple time zones and strange buttons to push to get an effect), my watch, my camera, my color nook, .... The way to do this is to use Powerpoint or other presentation software to capture text or images of instructions either by scanning your paper copy or using some sort of screen print (Printkey 2000) to capture an online version of the users manual. Adding a few sheets of paper to your suitcase beats being frustrated at 2PM trying to set your alarm clock after 20 hours of airplane travel.

I love Timex watches _ & this one is also great - The only problem I have is it is only a 30 Lap not a 50 lap which is indicated in the ad.

I picked this watch up before traveling abroad and couldn't be happier. It's rugged, has many alarm settings (good for many time zones), is easy to figure out and does what it's designed to do.

This watch is an excellent watch. I has the great features of an Ironman watch, but it also has enough elegance to wear casually and in more formal surroundings. I originally bought this for my son, but I think this may be my next Ironman watch.
