4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, but band has design flaw!
I've owned many of the Timex Ironman watches including 4 of this style with the metal bands over the last 20 or so years. All have been great watches. I bought this watch only because my present watch battery is dying and the casing is looking aged - letters are worn and faded - not as dressy as when new, but still a great watch.
However, this watch has a design...

1.0 out of 5 stars THE BRACELET BREAKS WITHOUT ANY EFFORTS OF ANY KIND!!!
I did not want to believe the review of B. Watson (Atlanta, GA) who said that the bracelet has a design flaw and that it breaks too easily than normal. He was right!!

I bought the watch and, 12 days after buying it, the bracelet broke!!! I just moved my arm higher within the arm of my coat and the watch was in contact only with the inside of my coat and it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, but band has design flaw!, January 15, 2008

This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
I've owned many of the Timex Ironman watches including 4 of this style with the metal bands over the last 20 or so years. All have been great watches. I bought this watch only because my present watch battery is dying and the casing is looking aged - letters are worn and faded - not as dressy as when new, but still a great watch.
However, this watch has a design flaw - a weak point in the pin where the band connects to the watch. I bought my watch in November and the pin broke twice - within 3 weeks each time. Both of the times the watch had slipped down against against where my hand meets my wrist. When I used my hand to get up from sitting on a bleacher seat, the leverage from the hand against the band snapped the pin. The second break happened in a similar matter. Nothing unusually stressful. Never had this happen with any of my other Timex watches. The design flaw is that the pin is not replaceable by the user. There's no way to get to the pin or to replace it. Fortunately, I was able to return my watch where I bought it each time it broke.(The store agreed they couldn't fix it). The last time was for good. I immediately had a new $4 battery put in my older Ironman and it's working like new again. Still faded, but working great. Hope Timex can correct this flaw with the band because I like the way this watch looks and functions. You expect Ironman watches AND their bands to be tougher than this.

1.0 out of 5 stars THE BRACELET BREAKS WITHOUT ANY EFFORTS OF ANY KIND!!!, January 12, 2009
This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
I did not want to believe the review of B. Watson (Atlanta, GA) who said that the bracelet has a design flaw and that it breaks too easily than normal. He was right!!

I bought the watch and, 12 days after buying it, the bracelet broke!!! I just moved my arm higher within the arm of my coat and the watch was in contact only with the inside of my coat and it broke. I did not do any movement that was violent in any way or force anything in any way when I moved my arm and the watch was on me. I could not believe it!! Very shocking!!

I will ask a refund and I will try to find a watch that can be fully reliable for both the bracelet and the watch itself.

I would have liked to try the watch again but I am now too convinced that the bracelet has a design flaw to even care getting a replacement.

The irony is that the bracelet looks strong! The problem is that it is as strong as its weakest links!

Conclusion: the bracelet has a design flaw and you will break it even if you happen to be like me extremely careful with the way you use your watch. The watch itself seems fine, only the bracelet is the problem!

1.0 out of 5 stars dont buy band extremly fagile, March 19, 2010
This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
I liked the looks of this watch, however the band has a flaw. The band which you would think is strong cause its stainless steel. but the where it connects to the watch itself is plastic and very fragile. I broke mine with minimal effort. I did however got another timex the band is very strong but it is analog and digital and the battery doesnt last long cause although the digital part is working the analog is very slow. Just goes to show you timex isnt into takin a licking and keeps on ticking but rather keep for a year and part of this watch stops working just so you will buy another.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Case watch, February 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
The case cracked at the pin after 18 months due to the cheap plastic case. I knew I should have returned it, when I saw the case was not metal, despite the misleading product description. The warrenty ran out after a year, so now I cant send it back even though its clearly a fualty product not the result of normal wear. Dont buy this watch the cheap case cracked off at the ear for the band and cannot be repaired.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding value for $37.45, November 15, 2007

This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
I have had a Citizen digital LCD that gave good service for many years!
It finally went bad and I started a search for a similar type. Out of all the watches researched online, this Timex T5H981 was the only watch that was what I was looking for. I was amazed that the price was only $37.45... It is very well constructed of stainless steel and the stainless wristband clasp is also very high quality, the same as other watches costing hundreds of dollars! It has many features beyond which I expected, but has the main ones which are; easy to set, a chronograph, a countdown timer and ability to set the time in 3 different time zones. The Indiglo backlite makes it very easy to read the LCD display at night.
Amazon's free shipping was very fast, I received the watch in less than a week after ordering.
The only con is that Timex recommends that a jeweler replace the battery when needed inasmuch as the backplate is attached with 4 phillips head type screws which are extremely small. This should not be too much of a problem as the CR2025 type battery should last 5 years or more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bracelet smaller than expected, November 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
While this watch is as well made as any Timex we've ever had, the watchband really is as decribed. It looks like a men's bracelet. It isn't as wide as other Timex Ironman watches with a metal band. It was a little off-putting at first because my husband didn't think it was manly enough. He's fine with it now.

2.0 out of 5 stars Close to being a great watch, however...., October 20, 2009
This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
This is a good looking and functional time piece. I previously owned one that gave me three years of great service. Unfortunately I returned two replacement watches because of defects. The first replacement watch came with a button that didn't work, so I couldn't set the time. The second watch's band separated from the body. Looks like it could just snap back in, but it doesn't. The band came off during normal wearing. No stress was applied to the band to make it come off. Other reviews identify the same problem with this product. I was bummed because I really like the look, feel and features of this watch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Band does NOT last, October 11, 2009

It's a good watch, but don't expect to be wearing it for long. Mine fell off my wrist after just 2 months. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I haven't been able to find a replacement pin that fits. I can't even find a replacement band. The band is unique and I have searched without any luck of finding one. This watch was a big disappointment. Don't wast your money on a wrist watch that you will end up carrying in your pocket.

1.0 out of 5 stars subpar wristband!, June 22, 2009
By
This review is from: Timex T5H981 Ironman 30-Lap Stainless Steel Bracelet Watch (Watch)
While the watch part functions perfectly, the band and casing leave much to be desired. Within 5 months, the silver paint on the main watch face has flaked off and the wristband turns my wrist black. I have taken to painting the underside of the band with clear nail polish until I can buy a different watch. Don't waste your money.
