I've had this watch only a couple of weeks, but immediately discovered a couple of shortcomings, compared with my previous runners watches. I bought it because it combines an analog dial with all the same functions my earlier watches had, and because I liked its appearance, which is rather different from other sport watches. The problem is the greatly reduced size of the chronometer display - which is much too small.
The underlying problem is that I am of an age such that I use reading glasses, something I don't take running with me. I can read it well enough in bright light, but in low light I cannot read it at all. And since I usually run after work, from 5:30-6:30, both watch hands are often located directly over the chronometer display, often making it impossible to see. That would also be an issue for early morning runners. My old watch (also an Ironman Triathelon - different model) has gotten rather beat-up, and the battery is dead, but it has a large, easily read chronometer display, and none of the issues this new watch unfortunately suffers from. It looks like I'll have get a battery for that old watch, and use this new one only when I'm not running. I can recommend this watch only for non-running applications, or for anyone with sharp near-distance eyesight.

My old Ironman battery died and I found the price of the battery replacement to be more than 50% of this new watch, so decided to buy the new one. The old Ironman was all digital, and I prefer analog but like having all the features of a digital watch such as the chronograph, timer, dual time zone, and alarm. I also really wanted the same waterproof, shock, and durability features that all Ironman watches have, plus the original blue Indiglo back light (my old Ironman had the newer yellow, digit only illumination which I found to not be that bright at night). The Endure Combo Shock has it all, plus the digital display has the All Day Indiglo feature which uses holographic technology to make the display greenish during the day for better contrast. There was one reviewer on the Timex website who said that the display window was too small, but I find it to be just fine. Hard to beat the cheap price on Amazon ($47+) with Prime shipping, as I saw Zappos sells the same watch for the MSRP of $70. Maybe that will change since Amazon bought Zappos recently.

Although I have only had this watch for a few days, I like it a lot. A few of my favorite features:
1.The resin casing extends beyond the cover of the watch face by about 2 mm, enough to provide lots of protection against the face being scratched accidentally. 2. The hour and minute hands have luminescent pieces on them, so it is often possible to tell the time in the dark without needing to turn on the Indiglo feature. 3. When activated, the Indiglo Night Mode will turn on the light by pressing any button. If you need to use the stop watch or timer at night, it is very convenient to be able to press only one button, which will do the desired task in addition to turning on the light. It is not necessary to press two buttons to turn on the light and perform the function while using Night Mode. 4. The date can be displayed as either MM.DD or as DD.MM. This is convenient if you are used to a date format that is not the standard in the US. 5. The watch is easy and intuitive to use. With about 5 minutes reading through the manual, you should be able to remember how to do everything you need to.

I bought this watch because in the description it said the case was 46mm. I need a bigger watch for work, tough, easy to see at a glance, etc. Upon receiving it, it is a smaller watch, 42mm, the hands are hard to see, and the digital at the bottom gets blocked by the hands. The indiglo is even really bad, lights up green but difficult to see where the hands are (if you don't have 20/20 vision, as I don't any more) Anyways, I'm very disappointed.

I bought this watch to replace a very well worn indiglo watch I got many years ago. I like the look of the face of this watch but it can be a little hard to read depending on the light.
I chose this specific model because of the second display but this was the most disappointing part of the watch. It is VERY hard to read and the regular hands can block the display making it impossible to see at half-past the hour. This was VERY surprising to me from a company with so many years of experience. The band also takes some getting used to, you will either love it or hate it. I have it a try and I ended up loving it.

Nice watch but the strap is too stiff. the beeper isn't loud enough either. I referee soccer and lacrosse and this watch is nice looking but is uncomfortable to wear. All the functions work just fine but again the strap hurts. A softer band would make this watch a hot seller.

I am satisfied with the product except I was led to believe that it had a month, day, and year display, but it doesn't reflect that and the directions are not for the faint of heart.........I also do not and will never use the lap feature. It does keep good time, tho.

For me it's been a great watch for the price. I paid about $35. It's subdued, not too big, and sporty. The black case is protective. Other reviewers noted how the small digital display may be obscurred by the minute hand on the half hour. This can occur, but I've experienced no difficuly determining the date or timing my kids sports activites. In my opinion, it's a great deal!

Nice functionality, but not the best build,
This review is from: Timex Men's T5K202 Ironman Endure Combo Shock 30-Lap Watch (Watch)
Watch looks great and has very good functionality. The only real complaint is that when you try to set the time, the little knob will come out all the way along with a spring. This has happened on two watches. One I was able to put back in, the other I had to send to Timex. You have to be very careful when pulling that little thing out. But I still like the watch a lot.

I was looking for a lightweight 200 meter WR Ironman as a replacement for a bulky Casio G-Shock I used for swimming and bicycling. Ironman watches are the best watches for the money-not the most attractive, but reliable, and for some reason keep the most accurate time of any brand I own (I'm a watch freak and own about twenty watches;). I just received this model, so can't comment on the water resistance or long term accuracy, but I don't expect to be disappointed.
This Ironman is lighter than the Casio (as they all are-one of the big problems with the G-Shock is the weight) and is slightly lower in case thickness. As a medium-sized guy, huge watches don't work on my small wrist. I wouldn't try wearing this watch with a dress shirt, but it's not made for that purpose, anyway. I'm not crazy about the band, though; it has a securing rubber gasket-type thing that makes it a bit difficult for me to remove. Hopefully as the band stretches, this will be alleviated. As for operation, it has the normal Ironman features, but here's a couple of warnings. 1) The owners manual included in the box is not the one for this model. 2) The "feature tab" on the packaging mentions that it has two time zones. It doesn't, unless you count the analog display, which of course could be set to a different zone. I echo an earlier review which described the difficulty for "middle-aged eyes" having difficulty reading the small digital display. I suffer from this as well, but went ahead and purchased the watch as I was concerned with the 200m water resistance. If you're of a "certain age" and use a watch for serious training, you're probably better off with another Ironman model, as most of those have large all-digital displays. All in all, I like the watch--and you can't beat the price. I've never been disappointed with Ironman models, and expect no problems with this one. As always, Amazon was prompt and efficient in getting my purchase to me, too! |
