5.0 out of 5 stars Great everyday watch, and a must for pilots
I have taken this watch all over the world, and it is a great buy. The alternate time really came in handy when I wanted to know what time it was back home and I was half way around the world. Sure, I can just add 10 hours and subtract a day, but when you are at the end of the day and only running on 4 hours sleep it is kind of hard to figure out if now is a good time...

1.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof? NOT
I'd give this watch no star, if this site would allow. At one star, it is over-rated.

I bought this model as an everyday watch because of its timer and chronometer features and because it was advertised as Water Resistant to 100 meters. I've use it for about 8 months. Electronics worked as advertised, though I found that it was not as easy to start, stop,...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Timex Men's T77761 Expedition Chrono Alarm Timer Watch (Watch)
Actually, the retailer ended up not mailing me the Expedition #T77761 which they advertise in the photo, but mailed me the newer Expedition #791709. At first I was pretty annoyed and was going to return the watch but... the newer model isn't bad either. It's not as cool as the T77761 (which I've been wearing & buying replacements for over the last 10+ years), but at least it's not discontinued and has all the same basic features. I think Famous Brand Watches needs to get their act together in the advertising dept or the shipping dept, but Timex still makes great products for the price, and you don't feel too bad if you beat them up in whatever outdoor activity you choose.

I have taken this watch all over the world, and it is a great buy. The alternate time really came in handy when I wanted to know what time it was back home and I was half way around the world. Sure, I can just add 10 hours and subtract a day, but when you are at the end of the day and only running on 4 hours sleep it is kind of hard to figure out if now is a good time to call home. I would also use it as GMT time while I was flying though mutiple time zones. Very useful if you deal with that.

The Indiglo is nice and bright, and the numbers are large and easy to read. I used the timer many times, and being able to set my alarm to either time-1 or time-2 is quite handy. The stop watch isn't fancy, but I found it easy to use. I am also a fan of the cloth wristband. No cracking rubber, no hair pulling, an exact size, and very comfortable. You do need to wash it from time to time though.

Some of the smaller features are rather handy too. For instance, when your alram goes off it goes to the alarm display. You can quickly turn off the alarm and hit the mode button once to get back to the time display. When the timer goes off, I am brought to the timer display and I can either start again or go back to time. No need to shuffle though all the displays either way. Simple but very effective. They are nice little touches that show that they were thinking when they made this watch.

I can't vouch for diving, but I've never had moisture and after several drops and rough handeling, I still see all my display. I've scratched the display to heck, but I can still read it clearly.

The only fault I can think of is the cloth wristband which I mentioned above. Although I love it, it will get dirty after a while. But a quick spin in the wash with the rest of your clothes and you are back in business. A small price to pay for many benifits.

A very solid watch, and worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Everyday Watch, January 10, 2012
This review is from: Timex Men's T77761 Expedition Chrono Alarm Timer Watch (Watch)
Have had this watch for years (15+), and other than replacing the band and batteries, I've had no problems with it. Finally replaced it with the same model only because the price of a replacement band and new battery are high enough, new watch is cheap enough, and the old one was beat up enough, that it just seemed to make sense going with a new watch.
Its not overly big (some watches are the size of clocks) and its got everything I need. Day of week, date and accurate time that I can see in the dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Triathlon chrono alarm timer, December 20, 2011
This review is from: Timex Men's T77761 Expedition Chrono Alarm Timer Watch (Watch)
I love this watch. The time is easy to read, even for a 78 year old senior (me) without glasses. It shows me the day Month and date and alarms on the hour and at set times. The sturdy plastic band is easy to put on and take off and I never put it on upside down like seniors often do with expansion bands. I have several more expensive
watches, but this one is my favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had more stars, August 21, 2011
This review is from: Timex Men's T77761 Expedition Chrono Alarm Timer Watch (Watch)
Seriously, I love this watch. I bought it almost 9 years ago when I started Basic Training in the Army. This watch has been with me every step of the way. It has been stomped on, kicked, slammed, lit on fire, even blown up. I have had it with me chest deep in mud with no problems. I haven't had it too deep in water, 12 meters, but it goes in the shower with me every night. The stop watch and counter help me with my Physical Fitness test, keeps me on track for my run times. The dual time is awesome, I can easily check the time back home (keeps me from calling the wife and kids at 3am). I lost it about 6 years ago. I was heart broken. In that time I have had about 8 different watches, not a one of them added up. While preparing for a deployment to Iraq a few months ago I found it. It still held the right time. I have never had to change the batteries, this tour has been the worse for the watch. Covered in blood and many different chemicals and it still keeps going. Well, finally, the crystal is getting so scratched up its getting hard to see in some light. Time for a new one. You better believe I will be getting the same one again. Its the only watch I trust. I will hold on to this one tho forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best watch I have ever had, March 19, 2010
This review is from: Timex Men's T77761 Expedition Chrono Alarm Timer Watch (Watch)
Without a doubt, this is the best watch I've ever owned and have been very satisfied with it. I've had it for 10+ years and it's still going strong, so I've decided to write a review to assure you that this little ticker is well worth the purchase.

Let me start with the water resistance. I actually found this watch in the OCEAN which is how I first acquired it (wild, huh?), and it was fully functional. I've gone diving with it on, forgotten to take it off during showers, it has truly been weathered, and it holds up wonderfully. I've never tested if it can actually go 100 meters down in water, but judging that I found it in the ocean I'm certainly inclined to believe it.

The watch is very practical for whatever you do, and includes a nice, crisp display and a back light that lets it glow in the dark. It's vibrant enough so you can see the display very well, and if you hold down the button the back light stays on for a few seconds after you let go of the button which is handy at times. It also has an alarm to set and you can turn on and off the sound for each hour. By accessing the Mode button it includes a timer, a stop watch and also what seems to be an alternate time interface for if you want to keep two different times on the same watch. There is a Set button as well to set the time, and you can have it on army standard time as well. These buttons are rather tight and a bit hard to push at first, but over time you get used to them and they get more give.

The strap is very comfortable, and I like the give that the flexible cloth under the display gives the watch. The battery performance is excellent, and I've only had to change the battery three times over an eleven-year lifespan. Very impressive.

The only things I can think of that work against this watch, is the Velcro gets worn after about six years or so and I had to apply new Velcro, but for most watches this is to be expected. Also if you aren't careful the flexible cloth under the watch can get a bit over-flexed and worn if you tug on it a lot for an extended period of time; I've never had this problem, but a work colleague of mine who has the same model had this happen. Now remember, I'm talking ten years of wear here; me and my colleague have had the same watch for many years, and are very satisfied with how it's held up nonetheless. (I'm actually the one who referred HIM to buying it in the first place!)

In short, this watch simply does what it's supposed to and more. I wish more watches were made like this, and I've certainly been spoiled by this one. I would give it a 10 if I could, but Amazon limits me to 5. This is an incredibly hardy watch, practical and reliable, and it has trustfully served me for over a decade with no problems. I am very satisfied with every aspect of it and highly, highly recommend you purchase it. This is how watches should be; it has been a fantastic watch for me, and if you buy it I assure you you will be very glad you did.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof? NOT, September 6, 2006
This review is from: Timex Men's T77761 Expedition Chrono Alarm Timer Watch (Watch)
I'd give this watch no star, if this site would allow. At one star, it is over-rated.

I bought this model as an everyday watch because of its timer and chronometer features and because it was advertised as Water Resistant to 100 meters. I've use it for about 8 months. Electronics worked as advertised, though I found that it was not as easy to start, stop, and begin a new timer cycle as Casio watches I've owned. The "stop-watch" feature also was a little cumbersome to use--perhaps because of the splits and other features I don't need.

I've never had the chance to use it snorkeling, which is another reason I bought it. This morning when I put it on, I noticed that some of the letters and numbers on the face were not displaying properly--missing parts of the short segments that darken to form a number/letter. Later, I noticed the face had moisture condensed on the inside of the crystal. I have routinely rinsed the watch in running water after coming in from work, dusty or worse. I rinsed it yesterday.

I thought the leak might be due to a loose screw securing the back plate, but that wasn't so--the tiny screws had been torqued so tight that I had to struggle to loosen them.

When I got the back off, I noted that the gasket that seals the watch is very thin and does not appear to project above portions of the back upon with the back-plate rests. Either the gasket deteriorated since installation or the design is flawed.

I never before bought a watch rated "water resistent" to 100 m, and I've never had a problem rinsing or snorkeling with regular water-resistent watches. I don't know if the watch will dry out and resume proper functioning, but I will have to replace it anyway because it leaks, even when not submerged.
