I bought this as a gift for a young girl--and it was a hit. The only reason it is not five stars is that she never wanted to take it off and she loves swimming! I don't have much money to spend, but I thought the money on this was watch well spent. I don't think that she'll lose it because she won't take it off long enough. The description of the band was wrong, however. It is more of an elastic material, and, once we had it adjusted for her fit, she could just slip it on and off her wrist. When she grows, there is plenty of room left in the strap that it will grow with her.
Just as I thought, she did not know how to read an analog watch. However, Timex has added enought information on the face (noting 15 minute intervals and putting the first 30 minutes on the "past" side and the last 30 minutes on the "to" side, she will have it figured out in no time. GREAT birthday gift that was totally unexpected.

My kids really love these watches - we have this one with a monkey stretch band and one with a blue one with cars.

+ band is cool and interesting graphics on it that kids want to wear

+ learn to tell time with a real watch

CONS
- Not all of them seem to have a second hand
- Not all of the watches are as legible

All in all, very much recommend the Timex Kids Time Teacher Purple Monkey Stretch Band Watch.

I bought this for my daughter's 7th birthday. She loved it. It has really helped her get excited about learning to tell time. The teaching aspects of the watch are perfect. It's also very comfortable for her, easy to put on, and so cute!
