Review of Patio Thermometer (Timex),
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Timex TX3000-2 11.06-Inch Patio Thermometer with Glass Lens and PVC Dial (Copper) (Electronics)
This is a well-made and constructed thermometer for inside use, but given our cool, damp climate in a southern California beach city, is a little impractical and not quite sturdy enough for outdoor use. It is a very good looking and sensitive instrument that fits well with almost any decor. Recommend for interior use in cool, wet climates, and outdoor/indoor everywhere else.

This is a good looking thermometer you don't have to squint to see - best value for the price. I PURCHASED THIS IN THE SPRING AND WHEN SUMMER CAME IT WOULD NOT REGISTER ABOVE 85. BY THAT TIME AMAZON'S GUARANTEE ON DEFECTIVE GOODS HAD CONVENIENTLY [FOR THEM] EXPIRED. BUY ANOTHER BRAND AND HOPE IT WORKS BECAUSE AMAZON COULD CARE LESS.

This thermometer looks great but does not work. Oh, it might tell you the temp if you have hours to wait on it. When I first started using it I thought that it was broken because it didn't change. I held a hair dryer to the back of it and it moved. If you were to say, bring it in the house from being outside in 90 degree temperatures and your room was 72, it would take it 2-3 hours to start moving down. A snail moves at lightning speed compared to this thing!

We like the way it looks. It is very sturdy too. It seems to be telling the correct temp. within a few degrees.

Timex clock - not very accurate,

This is an attractive clock, especially for the price; but the indicated temperature was about 3 degrees off compared to one digital and one analog thermomometer I also have, which I believe to be accurate. The good thing is that you can take this clock apart with 4 screws, pull the needle off, then re-index the needle more accurately. Now it's probably good within a degree or two across the normal range. Don't just assume this thing will have the accurate temperature "out the box."

A basic low cost thermometer,

We have only had the thermometer a month so it is really too soon to say. How will it hold up under hot conditions? How will the color hold up? Will the dial face peel? All these questions will take time to answer.
I can say that the thermometer looks good. It is not fancy at all. No bells & whistles. The plastic frame/base seems sturdy. I like the fact that the dial is covered in a very clear glass, and not plastic which might craze or cloud up. The dial print is clear from a diswtance of about 20 feet. Much further than that and it might become challenging to read for these 50 year old eyes. It seems to be accurate, or accurate enough for our purposes. All in all a good, basic, general purpose, low cost outdoor thermometer.

Not so hot,

While the Timex patio thermometer looks elegant, the analogue readout is inaccurate. It registers 86 degrees most of the time, even though it is sitting in the sun when the outside temperature is about 95. I really can't recommend this product.

The first unit was stuck on 84 degrees. Great service by Amazon! I sent it back and they sent me a replacement. It's installed on our deck working great.

Timex TX 3000 Thermometer,
This review is from: Timex TX3000-2 11.06-Inch Patio Thermometer with Glass Lens and PVC Dial (Copper) (Electronics)
I was very disappointed in the themometer, it reads as much as 10 degrees lower than the actual temperature. If Timex made their watches with the same accuracy they would be out of the watch business.
