The TX60 features "Mystery Answers." Ask the TX60 a question, press the Mystery button, and it will give you one of 14 answers in both male and female voices.
Alarm features include a sleep button to doze off to CD or AM/FM radio. A large, easy-to-find snooze bar sits across the top of the unit, while a three-step brightness switch lets you adjust the backlit amber display to what's easiest for you to view. A battery backup system is included so you won't be caught sleeping even if there's a power outage.

Hunk of junk in sheep's clothing,

This review is from: Timex TX60L Rock 'n' Roll Clock Radio (Stereo CD, Mystery Phrases, Dual Alarm) (Electronics)
I was in the market for a cd/clock radio, saw this one which looks very nice, and took it home. Now, i'm getting ready to take it back. what's wrong with it? Here we go...1) The LED is WAY to bright. It has a dimmer switch on the back, but since the it's not the numbers that light up, but rather the screen, even on the lowest setting it is like a mini-floodlight; alright from across the room but not nice next to your bed. 2) The CD alarm plays for a half hour and then goes to this smoke-alarm on steroids beeping. Alright when you are asleep, but when you wake up to a CD and start puttering around getting ready, and the beep hits, you immediately start looking for the fire. 3) The radio doesn't work. It gets good reception, but for some odd reason it won't register anything below 97.0 on the FM dial, no matter what position the marker is in. 3 out of the 4 tolerable stations are now unreachable for me. 4) The CD player isn't freindly in the morning. After the beep is shut off, the CD player seems uncertain that you actually want to hear music, even after you've pushed play. If you are lucky, you will get a song or two out before self-doubt overwhelms it and it stops playing at all. 5) the "dual alarm" is misleading. One alarm is CD, the other is radio. You can't set it to play a CD at one 6:00am, and then again at 8:00am; one of those has to be radio. Basically, rather than a dual alarm, it is two single alarms. If that makes sense. Which it should. 6) The CD player opens if you breathe on it. Well, not literally, but it has a hard time distingishing between an attempt to open the CD cover and any other movement anywhere near / on the clock. I have no idea why this is, but I swear that it opened twice this morning while it was fiddling with the radio. Anyway, now that i know what can go wrong in one of these things, I'll know what to look for when i return this one.

i bought this clock so i wouldn't have to wake up to an irritating alarm... how shi-shi can i get, right? :) anyway, i wanted to wake up gradually to music that i like, and this little clock is great for that. it's pretty easy to use, and so far i've not had any trouble with it; however, the cd lid doesn't lift open -- you press it to open and close it, which seems like a delicate mechanism that could break after some usage. the clock does come with some useless functions as well: i haven't used the mystery answers and weird noises yet, and don't understand why anyone would... but anyway, the clock is reliable, the numbers are easy to read, and i can wake up to a janet jackson ballad, so i'll overlook the tacky blue color and the mish mash extras.

CD-R and CD-RW Compatible!,

The most important thing you must know: this CD player is CDR *and* CDR-W compatible!! That means that you could record your own alarm and wake up to it. You could record (in your own voice) on a CDR-W, the things you have to do the next day, and set the alarm to repeat that track. Then there's no way you'll over-sleep! Well you could do that with a regular CD... but since this set is CDR-W compatible, you can use a RE-WRITABLE CD... and record over it over and over again, with no waste. That is what I hoped for, and that is what I got. Another thing... Don't expect Bose sound on this thing. It's your standard CD player. But the set also comes with extra cables to hook up to external speakers... Also, the top that covers your CD is one of those clumsy, push-to-open, push-to-close doors, which I see breaking apart in the near future. About Mystery phrases-- unless you are a ten year old, they will sound less than fun-ny to you! Very surfer-speak, "waaay cool" 8-ball: yes, no, maybe type phrases. What a totally radical trip.Being able to set the alarm and work with the options requires skimming through the owner's manual. Once you do that you are fine. There's a LED light that indicates if your back-up batteries are low on power or not. Overall I think this is a good buy. Waking up to music is SO much better than waking to a beep. I can't believe you're reading this.
