Product Description

Product Description

Improve your health, track your intensity and help meet your weight loss goals by being "in the know." The Timex® Easy Trainer delivers essential fitness management data in a simple-to-operate watch.

The Timex Story

Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.

The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.

During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.

The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.

One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.

Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

I used Polar HR monitors for years. They worked fine but they were expensive and battery replacement required mailing both the strap and the watch to an authorized repair place, paying money, and being without them for two weeks or so. The last time my Polar battery failed I bought an IsoKinetics HR monitor. That just didn't work. I ended up returning it with the help of Amazon (IsoKinetics didn't want it back until Amazon "encouraged" them.) With my fingers crossed I bought this Timex one. It's more expensive than the IsoKinetics but much cheaper than a Polar. Fortunately this one works fine. I've used it about eight times now. The first time or two the chest strap didn't make good enough skin contact but after it got some sweat on it it started working. (Polar is the same in this regard.) The display is big and clear enough to read at a glance while running. The buttons work fine. The wrist unit is convenient enough to put on and take off. It's fairly nice looking but big. The reading seems accurate. You can replace the chest strap battery yourself. The wrist unit battery can be replaced by a local watch repair store (you don't have to mail it somewhere). Two shortcomings compared to Polar: the reading isn't detected by some exercise machines that will detect Polar readings, and it has no extra features (no average HR, max HR, zone, etc.). You can display the duration of the current workout or the time of day by pushing a button, but that's the extent of its "features". Overall I'm very happy to give up the features in return for the substantially lower price. When I started with Polar years ago I used all the features just to entertain myself during the boring job of working out but after I got used to the features I stopped using them. What I really need is just to know my heart rate during exercise and this Timex model does that job very well.

Before I ordered this HRM, I checked reviews...some good, some not so good. I wanted a simple HRM and one that did not cost too much in case I decided to upgrade. I have used one before but had to stop exercising for awhile. I give this HRM 4 stars because it is simple, it serves my purpose and it is easy to use. The only drawback is the belt that goes around the chest. The monitor I had before had a type of clasp that allowed ease in putting it on (like a bra). This one has no clasp; just goes over your head or step into it and pull it up. Very inconvenient and if you have arthritis it is hard to do. I plan to remedy that very easily by changing the clasp from my old HRM to this one. Should solve the problem and you can't beat the price!!!!
Well, live and learn! I missed it the first time but I must change my review. The Timex DOES have a clasp. I just did not see it. That gives this little jewel 5 STARS in my book!

Good basic HRM that gives avg, min and max for a work out but.... There's one button to start, stop and review data for the workout. To start, it's a short press. To stop and store it's a long press. To review it's a long press. Therein lies the problem. If you don't get a solid long press to review the previous workout, it starts a new one and deletes the data you wanted to review. Also, during a workout, a short press shows the elapsed workout time. Too many function for one button.

All I wanted was an HRM that was economical and worked. Great for basic training. I love the simple operation.

When I start to really sweat it turns off and I lose my data for the workout. I can start it over, but that's kind of a pain...for the price it's ok because I've paid 3x as much, and the product didn't work any better.

Purchased for my wife and she uses it on every ride. Great way to monitor heart rate zones in either spinning or long distance rides in the foot hills. Also super for strenuous hikes.

A bargain price compared to competition. Seems accurate and consistent. You certainly don't want to wear it "dress", but it is light weight and comfortable and appears to be rugged.
