Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico.

The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.

During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches.

The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality.

One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.

Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

I bought this watch to replace my timex ironman watch. I wanted to go back to an analog watch.

About the watch: it's the mid-size, weekender slip-thru with olive strap. The second hand is red. If you notice on other weekenders, the second hand matches the color of the band, which I wasn't crazy about because I knew I would be changing the band at a later date and I didn't want to have to worry about matching it with a new band. When you press the dial, the entire face lights up with indiglo.

Face: Even though this is the midsize, the face is a little larger than the other women's watches I own, but it's not HUGE. The face is large enough to read at a quick glance, but not so large that it gets in the way. The indiglo is perfect, all numbers and hands can be clearly read. I really like the face of the watch. I would have liked a date display, but we can't have it all! Other timex faces do have the date display, but I liked the clean and simple lines and look of this face better. Date display was not a deal breaker.

The band: I agree with other reviews that the band frays way to easily. It actually started to fray the first day I wore it. As another reviewer had stated, I used FrayCheck on the holes and the edge of the band to prevent fray and it has worked so far. The Fray check dried clear and is completely undetectable on the olive band, I do not know about other band colors.

Band pros: its flexible, it can be easily changed when you are tired of the color or it becomes worn-its fabric...it will wear out. Replacements are affordable ($7 and up depending on the manufacture-Timex, J Crew, NATO, etc), and you can use a variety of bands from other manufactures. Just make sure you get the correct size for your watch.

I love this watch. It's stylish, easy to read, and sooooo comfortable. Yes, it ticks, but I grew up in the house with about 10 loud ticking wall clocks, so I find it trivial to block out. I'm a small woman with small wrists, so the women's size looks "oversized" in a chic, well-proportioned way - the "unisex" one is the same width as my wrist and looks comical.

I used to have the same watch with the black strap, and I donated it because I got a fancier watch. Almost immediately I regretted it, because the fancy watch is fancy, but not quite as comfy as the old one. So finally I caved and bought a new one, now that the strap on the fancy one needs to be replaced.

I had a hard time finding the black one and this olive watch and a new black strap cost less than the watch with the black strap. So I decided to go for this one. To my pleasant surprise, the olive is not very green, it's a shade of grayish tan that's very close to my skincolor (I'm a pale-to-medium South Asian). So it has the unexpected effect of not cutting off the line of my arm, thus lengthening it. Also, because it's not green, it looks neutral and professional - while it's not something I'd wear to a formal event, it's definitely fine for business casual.

Good watch at a reasonable price. The wife enjoys having the illumination activated by pushing in on the crow (no need for another buttons) which gives the watch a smoother/neater/classic finish. Keep time accurately enough. She loves that she can simply take the watch of the strap without any tools and wash the strap as needed.

Only downside wished the strap was a bit more green. It tends to the browner side of olive and can almost pass as dark khaki.

This watch was a present or my GF; she loved it and is now known as a "fashionista" among her friends

Christmas present for my 76 year old mother. She specifically wanted a white face with black numbers and hands so it would be easy for her to read. She doesn't like metal bands because they pinch her sensitive skin. She loved this watch! It was perfect for her.

Great watch, super comfortable. I bought this watch because my other is being fixed and I can't go without a watch, I've taken it swimming, kayaking, rafting, zip lining, hiking- its really been a great watch, water resistant and durable. Highly recommend!

I have a Timex Expedition watch with a brown leather band that I have had for a number of years and love. I caught the band on something and it broke. I didn't know when I would get a chance to get a new band and wanted another watch quickly with the Indiglo feature. This one seemed like something I would like and the price was right. However, I was disappointed. The watch face is large and easy to read but ordinary looking. It is the band, however, that I really do not like. It looked like the nylon band was thick and substantial but, in person, it just appears to be a piece of grosgrain ribbon and is not substantial enough to carry off the look of the bold watch face. The end of the strap does not lie flat but sticks up and after wearing it only a few days, there already appears to be fraying around the hole I am using. I will only be using this watch around the house. Now, to me, if Timex had put a wide leather band on this to complement the larger face, it might have been a winner.
(So far, no issue with the stem or keeping correct time as others have had)
