Product Description

Designed for active, outdoor lifestyles--as well as the rigors of harsh urban landscapes--the mid-sized Timex T47042 Expedition stainless steel watch adds a stylish yet rugged complement to your everyday wear. It features a large, round grayish silver stainless steel watch case with flattened, brushed bezel that frames a greenish dial background with Arabic numerals, large, luminous stick hands (with seconds hand). It also offers an 8-year battery life, water resistance to 50 meters (165 feet), and a genuine leather strap in brown.

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer.

We feel most alive when we’re furthest from life’s routine. The air seems fresher when we ski unmarked slopes, define our own trail, or escape to our secluded fishing spot. Creating a relationship with nature nourishes like no technology can. Timex® Expedition® watches reflect the secluded terrain that inspires adventure, and are built to endure the depths and elements you subject yourself to.

Great watch for casual or everyday wear.

Am very pleased and would definitely recommend Timex in general, and this watch in particular to anyone.

I like the luminescent dial and the indiglo feature - makes it easy to read in dim or no light.

Pros: Durable, lightweight, has simplicity and basic functions of a watch, great for daily wear, aesthetically pleasing and matches well with many casual outfits.

Con: the watch's straps are a bit difficult to put on and off when I am wearing it as a perfect fit, as opposed to when I wear it a bit loosely.

Originally, I was looking for a watch with a 24-hour clock, is simple, durable, and good for everyday wear. For $[...] + free shipping, this watch is exactly those things. I've owned this watch for a couple months now and have yet to be disappointed. To be honest, the only "big" problem I would have later on is getting a new strap for it, and I'll explain why at the end.

The picture of the watch on this page does not do The Expedition justice at all. After taking it out of the box, my immediate impression is this is one handsome watch. The picture on Amazon's site makes the metal casing of the watch look whitish, powdery. This is not so. It is a black metal, and in the light, it sometimes has a copper-brown hue when contrasted to the olive green background and dark brown straps. Also, the olive green background and the numerals look very flat and drab. This is also not the case. Some reviewers have complained that the date indicator is too small to read. I personally had no trouble reading the date in the usual well-lit atmosphere. However, if you push the crown to light up the watch, it will not light up the date window. The 24-hour digits are small, but not unreadable. But since I bought it to get used to using UTC time, it was better this way for me because I could test myself that way. The only function I found useless was the cardinal directions, but it doesn't get in the way.

I needed an inexpensive, water-resistant sport watch to wear on our boat, replacing a 20 year old Casio. The Timex Expedition is easy to read, good looking, and the face lights up when you press the stem, perfect for night use. The band has eight holes, enough to accomodate a very small wrist. Amazon's price was 25% less than I found in a nearby "walk-in" store. I couldn't be happier with the purchase!

This is the second Expedition watch I've owned. The last one I had lasted 7.5 years. I only had to replace the band once. It's the perfect recreational watch upholding unexpected smacking on hard surfaces, along with salt water, sun, and dirt exposure. Comfort and style also make it a good watch to sometimes wear to work. My favorite feature is the lighted dial with the push of a button, plus the hands glow in the dark. This is a big plus for us near sighted people when not wearing corrective lenses. I hope Timex continues to make functional watches like this one for a long time. Thanks, Timex!

This is a great watch for a woman! I can't see it fitting a man and the watch face is too small for a man. I ordered it for my sister who has a large wrist and it is perfect for her.

I purchased this watch for my daughter who is serving in Afghanistan as a door gunner on a Blackhawk helicopter. When she mentioned that her previous watch stopped working, I purchased through Amazon and had it shipped directly to her in Afghanistan. She recieved in about 8-9 days and is thrilled with it. With daytime temperatures of up to 130 degrees it has held up to constant sweat. It also is easily readable through night vision and the sun shield on her helmet. Great product for the money.

Finally, a watch for the outdoors-woman! If you are looking for a rugged, functional watch that has some class, and is sized for a woman's wrist, you have just found it. I am a landscape design student, so I am in and out of water, mud, and plant material, but I also needed something that looks appropriate for meetings, classes or everyday wear. I wanted analog movement, with the date, a leather band, and an "adventurer" style to the face. I also have a small wrist, so size was important. This watch has all of these features, plus an Indiglo light, and is even more attractive than in the photo, as the face is actually a brushed black metal. It holds up well to use, and as another reviewer commented, the face seems to be fairly scratch-resistant.

I think this is a great watch. The design is unique, the numbers are easy to read and the band is very comfortable. Timex purposely makes the women's watches with smaller faces, and I count on that. I appreciate the size, the design, and the price. Amazon is selling this watch 50% cheaper than the Timex website. Very good sporty watch for the money.

I've tried to buy more expensive watches, but always seem to come back to Timex, especially their Expedition series. Nothing beats the Indiglo feature for me. I was looking for one that was still cheap but expensive enough for free shipping on Amazon. This one fit that requirement. I like casual looking watches, and have bought several Expedition series watches in the past.

This one is nicer looking than the photo might suggest, in my opinion. The brown is a real medium sueded brown strap, and the face is a nice brown-green color, but still neutral. The hour handles are very easy to see, offset in white with black borders. My only complaint, and a minor one, is that the date window is too small to be of any use, even if I correct my vision to 20-20 with reading glasses.

I have a bunch of Timex watches sitting in my drawer, I admit. After the battery runs out, I am sometimes too lazy or disorganized to make a trip to a store that will replace a battery. When it only costs around $30 for a brand new, spiffy Timex Expedition watch, why bother?
