4.0 out of 5 stars 1 glitch but otherwise, so-far-so-good
It has performed exactly as described. I chose this one for its plain, no frills styling (all black...I like it that way)and size. I made sure I purchased the largest, plainest model available so it couldn't be confused with the female versions. It is quite large; I like that, too.

I'm not so fond of the wrist band styling, but it's not a major issue although I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disposable Watch?
I have owned over 10 ironmans over the years and one thing I know for sure, the watch band is going to break. The point at which they will break is variable, some less than a year, others more than a year. The problem with this watch is that the band cannot be replaced. Consequently, when the band does break and it will break just like mine did after a little more than...

4.0 out of 5 stars 1 glitch but otherwise, so-far-so-good, March 28, 2008
It has performed exactly as described. I chose this one for its plain, no frills styling (all black...I like it that way)and size. I made sure I purchased the largest, plainest model available so it couldn't be confused with the female versions. It is quite large; I like that, too.

I'm not so fond of the wrist band styling, but it's not a major issue although I wish it was fastened onto the watch body in a more traditional manner. I wish it had the push-pins that other watches have so you could purchase a replacement band off the shelf and replace it yourself. This band appears to be integrated as part of the entire watch body. It seems sturdy, but if the band were to break it looks like you might need to have a jeweler replace it for you. I mention this because I've been pretty rough with all my previous Ironman products.

The glich:

I was on an elliptical machine at the healthclub that was wireless enabled for heart monitors and I think the transmission signal may have disturbed the watch function. The song volume spiraled uncontrollabley loud and spontaneously. I detached and re-attached the receiver and it worked fine and hasn't done this since. I'll keep an eye on this.

an oddity:

This display is very large and readable; however, when you activate the indigo/nightlight the illumination is "reversed." On my previous Ironman's the numbers would remain dark and the background lights up green. This watch lights the numbers green with a dark background...like a negative image. It's fine; I just had to get used to it.

overall:

I'm very happy with my purchase and I would recommend it. I've gone swimming with it and it works fine - just make sure you follow the instructions and DON'T press the buttons while you're underwater for fear of damaging the watch.

The only other thing is maybe it's a LITTLE larger that I'm used to.

FYI:

I don't know if Amazon updated the product discription to include 6th generation iPods, but I went to an apple store and checked it with Nanos and Classics, (G6). It works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Using with the iPod Touch, January 5, 2008
Since I am a techno-geek, the more gadgets the better. When I upgraded from the "nano" to the "Touch," it meant that I would have to unlock the Touch screen in order to change volume, skip to the next song or pause playing. With this I can merely go to my watch and do those things without having to move the Touch from where it is. Since I exercise regularly, this is great since it means I don't have to take the iPod from my pocket or its holster to do those things.

In addition, the watch has those functions that people who exercise like. Namely, a chronometer, timers with lap functionality. And the plus is that the alarm is loud enough to awaken me in the morning.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Techno-Geek item, May 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an excellent item for the ipod. I'm using this with the 80GB classic and it works like a charm. The range is great and I haven't had any glitches, lack of reception or radio interference.

Keep in mind that the receiver is powered by the ipod, so when not in use, you'll want to remover the receiver so you don't drain your battery. It doesn't make a significant impact on play time when in use, but you will see your power drop if you just let it site for hours at a time.

All in all, a great product.

Plus the watch works well in that respect as well. It's easy to read, super bright when you need the light, and the alarm will actually wake me up. It's also sealed to 328 feet, so you don't have to worry about the weather or diving. Just don't use the buttons underwater.

I love that I don't have to worry about my ipod getting wet when roaming the streets of Seattle anymore. Keeping it in a jacket pocket or slot in my bag while controlling it via the watch works perfectly. I'd definitely recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!, May 8, 2008
This review is from: Timex Women's T5K046 Pink Ironman Sleek iControl Resin Strap Watch (Watch)
I love love love love love it! I got it this morning just before my workout. It's so much more convenient that trying to see/reach iPod in my armband. It is going to make life so much easier while working out. Thank you Timex!

EDITED: I still love how this watch works when I'm working out...however the band gets dirty very easily and I can't get it clean!! I'll get a black one next time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Out of the box review, November 29, 2007
By
I have owned several Ironman watches in the past and have been happy. The main (out-of-the-box) complaint is that the band is not replaceable. I prefer the velcro straps and would have greatly welcomed a standard watch face that allowed the user to replace or exchange the band. Not sure why Timex did this (and the main reason for my 4 star rating). I am curious as to why this product (that lists for $125 dollars) is now widely available for $65-80 dollars, Perhaps Timex is simply realizing that the functions of the watch do not warrant the price. It is a cool concept and the inverse indigo lighting is also nice (the digits glow blue rather than the entire face when using the backlight). It's great that the watch functions after the Ipod has been placed in HOLD mode. I will try to update after the ski season, where I hope to use my new Ipod controller the most, on the slopes. One other slight downside is that my Ipod nano does not fit in any standard case that I have available with the transmitter unit attached to the docking port...

1.0 out of 5 stars Disposable Watch?, December 30, 2008

I have owned over 10 ironmans over the years and one thing I know for sure, the watch band is going to break. The point at which they will break is variable, some less than a year, others more than a year. The problem with this watch is that the band cannot be replaced. Consequently, when the band does break and it will break just like mine did after a little more than a year of use, you have to toss it. Only buy this watch if you plan on owning a disposable watch.

FYI, I have contacted Timex (via email) numerous times addressing this issue and have yet to receive a response.

I would highly recommend this watch for anyone that has a compatible iPod.

This watch is great. It saves so much time (no pun intended) when using the iPod touch. Now I don't have to hit the home button, unlock the screen and then press pause to stop what I am listening to. Just a simple press of the play/pause button on the watch does it. The RF design makes for great battery life compared to bluetooth devices I have used to do the same thing.

The only thing I could ask for is that the next and back track buttons work for forward and reverse as well.

The design of the wrist band seems perfect. The fit on my wrist is one of the best I have ever had, and I have a lot of watches. And the way it is designed there is a lot of airflow so your wrist does not get too warm. This also makes for a light weight band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ironman icontrol works well, February 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This product works well right out of the box. I had no problems setting it up or using it and the functions are intuitive. There are a couple of things to consider:

1. This is basically a one size fits all rubber banded watch, so it's a little large on women. This has an upside that the time face is large and easy to read.

2. From what I understand, this watch will not work with the newest generation ipod nanos. If you have one of those or are thinking of upgrading, this is something you may want to investigate. I did not try it.

3. Watch for sales on this watch, you can find that the price varies a little.

4. The watch works by plugging in the white remote into your ipod charging/sync connection. It's sturdy and stable, but I keep wondering what will happen if I lose the white remote receiver. I'm not sure if Timex sells replacements since they are obviously paired with the particular transmitter in the watch. If you are prone to misplacing small items, you may want to consider this issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOTALLY TIMELY AND AWESOME!, February 25, 2008
I have the ipod 160 and it was not included in the products that this unit works with but it works perfectly! This is one of the coolest gadgets I own. I can work out, switch songs, adjust the volume all by touching my wrist. When my hands are sweaty from working out really hard, I don't have to touch the ipod wheel at all, therefore my ipod stays clean and pristine! I use this at the gym, running, biking and skiing. It is so, so cool!

The only thing that would make this better is if there was a way ON the watch to see what song is playing.

The watch is fantastic, the iPod control feature works perfectly but DON'T GET THE PINK. It gets filthy looking.
