Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

"For almost 100 years, The Timken Company has been living proof that the American Dream is alive and well. Leadership, innovation, a commitment to excellence, and a recognition of the dignity of hard work have long been the hallmarks of the Timken family and their company. These qualities, which inspired Henry Timken at the turn of the century, will continue to guide his namesake company into the new one." --Jerry Jasinowski, President, National Association of Manufacturers

"Well written and full of lively anecdotes, this book captures the fascinating tale of The Timken Company. From the story of the firm's initial, dynamic expansion into the automotive industry to the discussion of its recent response to global competition, Timken reveals not only the history of one corporation, but also that of industrial America." --Hugo Uyterhoeven, Professor Emeritus, Harvard Business School

"A compelling account of a modern American industrial success story. Under the leadership of its founding family, the Timken Company and its products have evolved with a changing world. Timken tapered roller bearings, introduced 100 years ago, continue to find new applications across industries, and Timken's steel works are setting records in productivity. This book shows clearly why Timken will be a company to watch as the twenty-first century unfolds." --Andrew G. Sharkey III, President and CEO, American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)

Reading "Timken", then listening to the news and reading the papers about this and that company not surviving - one has a pretty good idea of what could be done - the strategies necessary for success. Timken made important, difficult decisions, often going against the current at the time, but brought about intelligent results. Each difficult period bore fruit - a great read !!!!
