The influence of Black songs on American popular music is undeniable. From Francis Johnson, the most popular band-leader of the time, who formed the Coloured Black Band in 1821, touring Europe and playing for Queen Victoria, to James A. Bland's "In The Evening By The Moonlight", they have contributed much to American popular songs of the 19th century. By the end of the century, Black songwriters were producing hit songs, evolving from Minstrel Shows. As such, it is logical that these hits developed in the theatrical scene. Black songwriters such as the Johnson brothers, John Rosamond and James Weldon, Bob Cole and Bert Williams, had their biggest hits first sung on the Broadway stage.
