5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD that Requires Persistence and Coordination
I have just begun Tina Landon's DVD, and feel that I have gotten more than my money's worth in the way of a wealth of fresh new dance moves-similar to my experience with the wonderful "Darrin Henson's Dance Grooves" DVD. This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
I have just begun Tina Landon's DVD, and feel that I have gotten more than my money's worth in the way of a wealth of fresh new dance moves-similar to my experience with the wonderful "Darrin Henson's Dance Grooves" DVD. Both Tina and Darrin are great choreographers; and I love the humor, insight, and sense of fun they express in their videos. I also find their passion very appealing.

It is a real mountain to climb learning your moves from DVDs such as this one-a good kind of mountain that feels extremely rewarding as you accomplish it. (Nothing worthwhile to learn is easy, right?) My approach to each routine is to pause the DVD with each count to see where the dancers' arms and legs are. On other passes through the routines I also slowly move from count to count using the magic of the DVD controls to go a few frames at a time. I use this technique to follow the transitions of the arms and legs of the dancers to each "pose" to be achieved at each count.

I go over the routines over and over again. And practice and practice and practice them. I am very pleased with the choreography that I've learned from Tina's DVD and actually have gotten a lot of compliments for them when using them in dance clubs. I feel that at a bargain price I have been gaining an extremely valuable education in agile dance grooves from a great choreographer. (I feel the same way about Darrin Henson's best-selling DVD, too.) Especially considering that I spend hundreds of dollars a month in dance training for ballroom, latin, and swing.

There is no substitute for years of training in dance. (Tina even says that in the video.) For what you pay for Tina's DVD you get a lot of information, and if you have the desire to put the time in and possess enough body coordination you will learn Tina's routines. If you go in with that mindset you will have the proper expectations for this dance video. After all, there is no magic pill to make you a better dancer--it takes work whether from you learn from a DVD or from a private instructor.

What you get from this DVD is a little slice of knowledge from a master choreographer that you probably could not spend any real time with. This DVD is a most welcome addition to my dance instruction DVD and book collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Learn About MTV Dances, March 1, 2005
This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
If you would like to learn dances done on MTVs, then this is the dvd for you. Tina Landon breaks down each segment of the dance/video she whishes you to master. The teaching pace is just right and if you do not get it the first time, rewind. The instructions are not done as mirror image so you have to do it on the opposite direction. The last dance segment of the dvd is interestin, imo. I hope next time, Ms. Landon will do different dance routines instead of the ones she all ready did in her previous works. If not, maybe she could add a couple of Janet Jackson moves, which i find better than the other teeny booper singer/dance video she did.

I find the interviews and other interuptions pretty annoying. I payed for the dance instructions not the interview.I hope the next session will have emphasis on the instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO good, December 10, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
tina landon is the best choreographer in the world! this dvd is the bomb. tina teaches you some of her most famous routines that she choreographed for jennifer lopez, xtina, etc (who also star on the dvd talking about tina)

some people say its way too fast, but you just have to hit rewind like she says on the dvd. each few counts is chaptered seperately so you just hit the back arrow on you remote and you get to see the counts again. not that hard!

tina also does a few interviews and explains heaps about dancing, her career and advice for dancers. then her and her dancers perform a medley of her routines at the end, mixed with the original video clips.

if you love dancing and pop music, you have to get this dvd. also check out the spanish version (you can set the language to english)tina does a whole new set of moves that she choreographed from people like shakira and j-lo.

the dvd also features an interview with tina, interviews with shakira, christina, nsync, etc, behind the scenes footage.

3.0 out of 5 stars too fast!, February 24, 2004

This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
This DVD is like one long session of music videos with the instructor talking inbetween each music video. The counts of 8 were taught way too fast so I found myself rewinding constantly just to figure out what they were doing. I would recommend this DVD to someone who is already trained in dance who might want to learn the moves of the videos. Otherwise for beginners it's not too great a DVD. In addition to that, you need a fair bit of floor space to do these routines. For someone like me with an average sized living room, it wasn't too great. I moved all my furniture off to the side but still had trouble bumping into things.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best only if you're a natural dancer, born to dance, desperately want to learn these moves, August 18, 2007
This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
Tina is a wonderful dancer & choreographer. The set, sound, lighting are professional, the dancers have worked on videos for all the top singers, are fluid & talented, no one seemed bored, etc. The intro was about 3 minutes, the warm up was decent but very repetitive, and the several minute "commercial breaks" interview w/Tina between each portion was a bit annoying. The bonus includes bloopers/outakes.

You learn, Christina Aguilera's "All I want is you", Britney's "Opps, I did it again", Lopez's "If you had my love", Samatha Mumba's "Baby come over", "That's the way"

This is the usual, "Here are 10 moves in 1/2 time & I'm mostly going to only count in 8s as a teaching tool, you'll be lucky if I say, 'kick out on 7....' Then let's do the next 10... & let's do the first 20 moves... moving on... & now w/music in true tempo all in 4-8 minutes."

Seems like all DVDs that teach dance moves do that, so I won't blame Tina for that. As usual, you learn only the main chorus part of the dance video & depending usually not even all of it.

I wish they would learn to do it like a real class & use mirrors so you only are facing the choreographer's back.

I really think having the song playing in the background, even lightly would REALLY help increase the fun factor.

This isn't for me since I got frustrated easily, though I was able to catch on quickly & liked Lopez's choreography since it had some latin steps & almost no confusing turns.

I give it 4 stars for the production values, talent & moves. Take off several stars if you can't learn fast or get bored quickly.

You can find a Spanish speaking ad on this DVD by searching google's videos & finding the video on myspace.

2.0 out of 5 stars Way too fast and vague explaination of dance moves, May 27, 2007
This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
I agree with the others that Tina teaches a VERY fast. She also does not explain where to put your arms, legs in the some of the segments so you need to rewind, rewind, rewind to get it right. I do have 10 years of dance training and even I found it very hard to keep up! When I am going through the moves, I am thinking in the back of my mind....wait where does my leg go on this count? Where do my arms go? It is a bit tricky to get the hang of the moves. Dance choreography is NEVER taught as fast as Tina teaches it. I am sure her back up dancers went through a few sessions before the video aired to get it right. It's impossible to do it otherwise! This video is definately not for beginners. It is best for people who have some dance training, but even then it is a bit difficult to master because the teaching is unlike any dance class you have ever gone to! Way to fast, and vague explaination of dance moves...even for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Practice Makes Perfect, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
I think this is a great video for someone that has a lot of experience with dancing, but also beginners can have a chance with this video if they are dedicated. The first dance "All I Want To Do" is broke down as it states on the case. After that hold on to your dancing shoes, she runs though the last four very quickly, never stating start on you left or right foot so you have to watch the video very closely. I personally, learned the first dance and attempted the second dance on the first day. Over the next several days, I worked on the first and second dance until I could keep up with the video and I'm presently working on number 3. It will be a good buy if you want to take the time to watch and learn. If your just looking for an exercise video, I would try something different.

4.0 out of 5 stars taking a chance from abroad..., May 4, 2006

This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
i have to say i took a chance by purchasing thid dvd since there is no video preview available, but i'm actually glad i did... i won't say it's the best video ever, but it sure is a useful tool for those with a certain sense of rythm and/or some experience with teaching... i find it very convenient that tina keeps on warning the viewer when it's a good moment to rewind the video, and this matches each track and coreography segment...after reviewing the steps, she puts it all together with music so you can check what it'll look like... camera moves are quite ok, leaving room for an overall view of what happens on stage...again, i took a chance on it by buying a copy from caracas, venezuela, and i'm quite glad i did...

1.0 out of 5 stars not for beginners, July 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tina Landon: Behind the Moves, Session 1 (DVD)
I got this dvd to work out to, hoping dancing would be more fun. I don't dance normally, and i'm not very good at it. She went way too fast for me to follow, so instead of a workout i had to stop and try to figure out what she was doing frame by frame. with a little one in the house i don't have time to take half an hour to try and learn the steps this way, she doesn't explain them well enough. so if you are more experienced with dancing then this is perfect, otherwise don't waste your money.
