I was lucky enough to catch the last 2 of Tina's tours that came through Ireland (Wildest Dreams in '97 and One Last Time (24/7) in 2000) and I have to say that this, by far and away, is the single greatest live music act I have ever witnessed.

3.0 out of 5 stars The DVD is a big improvement over the awful video release.
I caught Tina Turner's final tour twice (in Houston). The concert was spectacular. I bought the video as soon as it was released to relive the excitment of Turner, the band, the backup singers, the dancers, and the fireworks special effects. The video was filmed in London. I believe it was supposed to be the last performance on the tour. On the video you get to see the...

This review is from: Tina Turner - One Last Time: Live in Concert (DVD)
I was lucky enough to catch the last 2 of Tina's tours that came through Ireland (Wildest Dreams in '97 and One Last Time (24/7) in 2000) and I have to say that this, by far and away, is the single greatest live music act I have ever witnessed.

I was disappointed with the lousy editing on the VHS version, but this DVD edition more than makes up for it, it includes all the missing songs from the concert.

Possibly the best feature of this show is the medley of early Ike & Tina Turner Revue songs she sings at the beginning of the show. The Addicted To Love and Private Dancer sets are spectacular for their theatrical qualities, and her tribute to Otis Redding is magic. (Note, here in Ireland, where Mr. Redding is practically unheard of, Ms. Turner finished the song early due to a lackluster response from the 25,000-strong crowd and asked us if we knew who he was. When very few people responded, she advised us to 'Look him up!' and broke into something else :-)

Get this DVD. It's a testament to the undying power of talent, and Tina Turner is one of the greatest talents of the 20th and 21st centuries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best, April 2, 2001
Well, Tina has done it for one last time! I sadly missed the actual concert tour, but I have the almost perfect VHS to make up for it. This concert took place in such a huge stadium, that it was amazing how Tina's voice overpowered the audience and the band.

This is the list of songs she did on the tape.

I want to take you higher, Absolutely nothing's changed, Fool in love, Acid queen, River deep Mountain high, We don't need another hero, Better be good to me, Private dancer, Let's stay together, What's love got to do with it, Help, Whatever you need, Try a little tenderness, I heard it through the grapevine, Addicted to love, Simply the best, Proud mary and Nutbush city limits

The sound and picture are as clear as if you were there in person. Tina and her band performed some songs faster than in the studio versions. These songs were Simply the best, Better be good to me and Nutbush. I liked the audience's approval and Tina's enthusiasm while ruling the stage for one last time. There wasn't a boring song in the programme.

Unfortunately, the DVD version has Xtra songs. The songs were edited from the VHS for no apparent reason. The editing is perfect though, because between songs, we don't wait long. Tina comes out for almost every song without a break! It shows Tina saved her best for last, and that she was a ball of pure energy on that stage.

The VHS is formatted for widescreen, just to let you know. A truly fantastic live concert and a memorable experience for any Tina Turner fan. I think this is the actual show that PBS took for their tv version a few months back, but nothing compared to this! After 4 decades of success, Tina Turner deserves to be titled "Simply the best"! A must have for everyone. Get it while it's hot.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST TINA CONCERT!!!!, March 16, 2001
This review is from: Tina Turner - One Last Time: Live in Concert (DVD)
This concert was filmed in July of 2000 as part of the #1 2000 tour and the 5th highest grossing tour of all time. The Twenty Four Seven Tour. Songs include I Wanna Take You Higher, Absolutly Nothings Changed, Fool In Love, Acid Queen, River Deep Mountain High, We Dont Need Another Hero, Better Be Good, Private Dancer, Lets Stay Together, Whats Love Got To Do With It, When the Heartache is Over, Baby Im a Star, Help, Whatever You Need, Sittin On the Dock Of the Bay, Try a Little Tenderness, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Addicted To Love, The Best, Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits, and finishes with Twenty Four Seven. Tina belts out all these hits in a full 2 hour show with the help of her 9 piece band, 3 dancers, two back of sings, an unbeliveable stage that splits apart, explosions, sparks, a lifting chariot, 6 costume changes, and a 100 foot arm that sweeps over the crowd. Absolutly amazing. Its also the only concert of Tinas where her sense of humor shines through. The DVD version also includes a 20 minute documentary about the tour with backstage interviews and fan statements.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twenty Four Seven 2000 TOUR, March 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Tina Turner - One Last Time: Live in Concert (DVD)
This video was filmed from a stop on Tina's highly succesful "Twenty Four Seven 2000 TOUR". This tour was so succesful that it was the #1 tour of 2000 not only in America but in the World...and ranks as the #5 tour of all time.

With that being said you know this show must be fantastic. I had the privilage of seeing her live during this tour at Madison Sqaure Garden in NYC, and to say the very least she blew the roof off!! This video however was not filmed in NYC but in London, England at the famed Wembley stadium. Tina delivers some of her biggest hits..and classic covers...a must have dvd for all music lovers.

set list is as follows.

"I WANNA TAKE YOU HIGHER" "ABSOLUTELY NOTHINGS CHANGED" "A FOOL IN LOVE" "ACID QUEEN" "RIVER DEEP MOUNTAIN HIGH" "WE DONT NEED ANOTHER HERO" "BETTER BE GOOD TO ME" "PRIVATE DANCER" "LETS STAY TOGETHER" "WHATS LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT"

"WHEN THE HEARTACHE IS OVER" "BABY IM A STAR" "HELP" "WHATEVER YOU NEED" "SITTIN ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY" "TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS" "I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE" "ADDICTED TO LOVE" "SIMPLY THE BEST" "PROUD MARY" "NUTBUSH CITY LIMITS" "TWENTY FOUR SEVEN"

On the video you get to see the faces of about a dozen audience members standing near the front of the stage. The camera editing includes these audience members in adoring close ups seemingly every 15 seconds. I don't know about you, but I'd rather watch what's happening on stage. No stars for the video.

I recently rented this DVD to see if any changes had been made in the editing. YES! They reduced the adoring fan close ups to a minimum and keep the camera's focused on the stage.

My biggest complaint is the editing of the "Nutbush" finale. At the live concert, you think you've seen it all after the "Proud Mary" number that includes some impressive surprise fireworks. Then the stage goes black and silent for a few seconds only to burst out in blinding lights with a rousing encore of Tina belting out "Nutbush." Had you actually been at the concert you would have experienced the spectacle of the entire stage front transforming into a huge narrow crane that had been hidden for the entire concert. Tina struts up the arm of the crane as it lifts her WAY OUT over the audience. The DVD and the tape have cut this event into so many shots that its not clear where the crane came from and how Tina appeared in it.

The DVD is no substitue for the real thing but it brought back some memories of the best concert I've attended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tina Keepsake!, February 7, 2001
By
Geoffrey Blair (Lexington, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tina Turner - One Last Time: Live in Concert (DVD)
I caught Tina's 24-7 tour twice and doubted that any video could adequately capture the excitement and raw energy of her amazing live performance. I was wrong. Filmed during her Wembley Stadium show in summer 2000, this concert shows Tina ending her touring career with a bang.

Backed by her top-notch band, exquisite dancers and backup singers, Tina gives 100% of herself to every song and the audience loves her for it. The set list contains songs from throughout Tina's career, from A Fool in Love and Proud Mary (of course!) right up to Whatever You Need from her latest album -- a great musical tour of her 40-year career.

This DVD features excellent sound and very good video quality, plus a special behind-the-scenes look at life on the road during the tour. If you want to watch a true legend go out on top, this is the DVD for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was actually there, and this is nearly as good!, November 13, 2004
This review is from: Tina Turner - One Last Time: Live in Concert (DVD)
Well, I was actually in the audience for this concert, in fact you see me many times during the DVD. I am just near the green alien at the front.

I was worried how this DVD would compare to my memory of the concert itself, and I have to say that I am very impressed. I find both the sound and picture quality to be very good, and just how I remember them to have actually been.

I like the range of shots, cameras and angles used. It really does show off the famous Wembley stadium, and just how many people were in there. Obviously I was unaware of what was going on behind me, so the mixture of cameras is really interesting.

It is good to see all of the songs included on this version, unlike the VHS, which was a tad disappointing. However, I was a little irritated to find that there were parts cut, even from this version. They have removed the sing along with the audience during 'The Best', which is a shame. Also, some of the costume changes have been sped up a little.

However, it really is hard to find fault with this DVD. Most of the songs that you would want to be there, are. The staging, lighting and setting are all very good. Although the lighting does look a little more gaudy on the DVD than it actually was.

Tina, of course, is amazing. Her voice is strong, consistent and powerful. Her dancing is jaw-dropping, let alone when you think that she was aged 60, and was doing the whole lot in stilettos! Naturally, the legs are awesome, and I got to see them from up close! I have seldom been so dumb-struck as when she ran down the arm of the crane during 'Nutbush', I was directly below her, and could see that she really was very, very high up (and still in high heels!). Her energy never flags, even the quiet songs are sung with full force. She does, however, save the best for last. Proud Mary, with the fireworks and all, is probably the best version that I have ever seen.

I cannot really recommend this DVD highly enough, as a parting shot after 40 years of performing, this is a true triumph. Well done Tina!

5.0 out of 5 stars At 60-years old at Wembly Stadium, Tina Takes You Higher, March 22, 2002
This review is from: Tina Turner - One Last Time: Live in Concert (DVD)
Tina is a wonderful performer and in this video it shows.I wish could have caught Tina 24/7 Tour when it came to New Orleans, Louisiana, but I was sick.My 64 year old grandmother caught it at the New Orleans Arena, she loves you and your sexy, basketball playing, goddess legs. She takes you on a journey of her 44 year career starting with a cover of "I Wanna Take You Higher", right up to a closing song "Twenty-Four Seven" from her new album. The setlist on the dvd is in order "I Wanna Take You Higher", "Absolutely Nothings Changed", " A Fool In Love", "Acid Queen", "River Deep, Mountain High", "We Don't Need Another Hero", at the end of this song she came to the front of stage the in an upside down U-shaped thing; "Better Be Good To Me", "Private Dancer", she up from in the stage on this song; "Let's Stay Together", "What's Love...?", "When The Heartache Is Over",after this song the stage splits open and she sings a heartfelt piano version of "Help"; "What Ever You Need", "Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay", "Try A Little Tenderness",after this song the stage closes and then splits open again with explosions and sparks. Tina and her five dancers come out the middle singing "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", after this song the stage closes and she comes dancing from the outer part of the stage. Once she gets to the mic she starts singing "Addicted to Love"; "The Best", "Proud Mary", "Nutbush City Limits", and she closes this magnificent concert with "Twenty-Four Seven". During the last 10 or 20 minutes of Nutbush she sings from an armed platform, over 95 feet into the audience.Tina's band is in top shape and she has three dancers and two back up singers including canadian e.r. actress Gloria Rueben(Jeanie). Tina also shows her great sense of humor in this concert.I still cannot believe I missed this great tour but in buying this dvd I feel like I was there and now I have it on dvd which means I'll have it forever. There is also a 30 minute documentary.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lousy video quality + lousy audio quality = disappointment, April 12, 2005
This review is from: Tina Turner - One Last Time: Live in Concert (DVD)
I recently TiVo'd this concert but it was not broadcast in High Definition and it was only in stereo but all the same, it was stunning so when I saw it available on DVD with (supposedly)better video quality and surround sound I jumped at the chance to buy it. What a disappointment! The video color is all washed out and very blue and over-exposed looking and there's no depth to the audio tracks. They lack bass and are way too bright. The sleeve says it has 5.1 Surround but the menu offers only 4.1 Surround or 4.1 DTS (never heard of 4.1 anything - what is THAT??). The DTS track is no better (usually DTS is much superior). The surround sound mix is awful and the audience cheers drown out Tina and the band. The stereo tracks were no better. I quickly switched back to my TiVo'd version and there she was in all her glory - rich color and fantastic dynamic range with deep bass and great presence. I'm amazed that such a poor quality DVD got to market like this. It does not do her justice.
