Simply the best? I don't think so ...,

The whole idea of DVD's is their capacity to accommodate more material. But this DVD is no different to the VHS release although it does have 5.1 surround sound as well as the traditional dolby digital 2.0.Firstly, do not expect any special features, this is a bare bones release. The track listing is acceptable, yet fails in some ways. As many reviewers have stated, several of the videos have been replaced with concert footage (a big 'no no' for a video collection). What's annoying to me is, the songs that have been replaced are personal favourites so I am a bit cheesed off. Let's run through them: We Don't Need Another Hero - a 1985 video does exist out there, but we get a lacklustre concert performance instead with Tina screaming rather than singing. Typical Male - do you remember the excellent video for this? Well it aint included on the DVD. We get a concert performance again. I Can't Stand the Rain - concert footage again. Perhaps a video was not made for this song. It basically means that someone at EMI liked the concert footage more than the videos and decided we would all agree with him/her. Not so. There is other concert footage on the DVD but it's okay because that was the way it was originally filmed (eg. Tina's live cover of "Addicted to Love"). One obvious ommission is "One of the Living", the second single from the "Mad Max 3" soundtrack. Perhaps copyright reasons prevented the use of this track. Also missing are videos from the 1970's including "River Deep Mountain High" or "Proud Memory". I assume this is because the DVD focus on the 1980's (why not say so on the cover?). Still, the DVD could have been updated to include hits from the 90's - one can assume that a Volume 2 DVD must be in the works. One inclusion that is a good selling point is the alternative video version of "What's Love Got to Do with It" (which was scrapped), as well as the version that got used worldwide. Overall Summary:

Tina Turner's greatest hits are finally available on DVD. The collection may be her greatest hits for the US market, since she hasn't had a major hit in the States since "I don't wanna fight" in 1993. (When The heartache was over was however a hit on the Billboard dance charts). But She has kept producing hit after hit in Europe throughout the nineties and none of these songs are included on the disc. This could have been a great dvd release. There is enough space on a dvd disc to include her complete music video collection + some extra's...An interview with Tina Turner looking back on her solo career would have been great. Where are the video's for "Two People", "One of the living", "Help", "Goldeneye", "Girls", "Paradise is here". "Way of the world", "I want you near me". "I don't wanna fight", "Disco inferno", Why must we wait until tonight", "Goldeneye", "whatever you want", "Missing You", "On Silent Wings", "something beautiful remains", "In Your wildest dreams", "Can't stop thinking of you", "When the heartache is over" and "whatever you need" ???? Plus why replace the video's of We don't need another hero and Typical Male with live versions??? EMI should have taken some extra time to produce this dvd instead of just copying the 1991 release on DVD. What a shame.... Why EMI can produce great compilations for the beatles and Queen but not for Tina Turner is a mystery to me. EMI, Show some respect to the most succesfull live performer in history !

I bought back in 1992 the vhs edition of this collection I found it very good. So this year when I saw the dvd I bought it thinking that I could find differences but nothing!.This dvd is the same as the vhs, there's absolutely nothing new, they didn't add different versions of some videos or put special features. I can't also understand why when this collection was made the producers didn't put the original videos of "Typical male" and "We dont need another hero" or why doesn't appears the video of "Way of the world" wich was a Top 3 hit single in the U.K and Europe. The videos for "Typical male" and "We don't need another hero" are taken from her 1991 video "Do you want some action-live in Barcelona". Tina's strengh on this videos is amazing but this is a video collection so they should have added both versions for the dvd. There's also one hit video missing from 1987 the Top 20 hit "Two peolple", so where's this video? nowhere because you can't even find it any more because the vhs is out of stock. There're some other fantastic moments taken on video as the duet that she made with Bryan Adams or some of her Vegas shows that are not here. How ever Tina is wonderful and I hope that Capitol or Virgin releases a new dvd as Tina and we her fans deserve. One more thing, there're some great videos that are out of stock now and could be re-released. The tittles are: "Wild lady of rock" (1979), "Private dancer tour" (1985), "Break every rule" (1986), "What you see is what you get" (1987) and "Whats' love live" (1993). I strongly recommend the first and the last, if you can find them somewhere get them.

I had never gotten the VHS or laserdisc for this collection in the past. I'm not sure why, I just didn't. I was so ecstatic when I found out about the DVD release. But, Capitol Records should be ashamed of themselves promoting this as a "Video Collection" when about 5 of the songs are taken from live concert performances! SHAME!! Why on God's green Earth would they do a live performance of "We Don't Need Another Hero" instead of giving us the actual music video? WB didn't even add it as an extra on the Mad Max 3 dvd. Not to mention the video for "One of the Living" from the same film is nowhere to be found. Why a live performance of "Typical Male" instead of the actual music video?!? Come on!! SHAME!! Other than that, I am glad to have the full and complete Tina videos that are on this DVD, including an alternate video for "Whats Love Got To Do With It" shot in black& white and with a completely different story line. Capitol should re-think this matter and release a complete TINA TURNER MUSIC VIDEO COLLECTION. No live performances (since I have the live DVDs already!!). And add in her late 90's-2000's videos such as "I Don't Wanna Fight", "Whatever You Need", and "When The Heartache Is Over".

MISLEADING BUT ESSENTIAL TINA DVD.,

Well I am thrilled to have Tina's videos on DVD. However be warned for some inexplicable reason (as was with the 1991 video release) these are not all videos, some are live performances. So what you may say? Well we have these performancews on other DVDs! The DVD says video collection yet Typical Male AND We don't need another Hero are live performances. BUMMER!!! And where is One Of the Living? Oh well it does have the amazing treat of Tina's first video version of "What's Love Got To with It" that was scrapped. A much edgier (but not better) take on the song...:TRACK LISTING: The Best So now all we need is Private Dancer Live on DVD!!!

Please update this release with her later hits. That she changed labels in the US after 1991, doesn't matter. Virgin is part of the EMI group just as Capitol is. Tina has recorded for EMI since the early seventies. EMI should do some more effort for there compilations.

Tina Turner's greatest hits collection is finally released on dvd by Capitol Records. The dvd contains no extra's and is exactly the same as the VHS version released in 1991. The DVD mixes Tina Turner's video's with some live recordings. For example, I can't stand the rain, Typical Male and We don't need another hero are live recordings instead of the music videos. The quality of the dvd is not bad but it is certainly not a disc to show of your system or show the possibilities of DVD. The Dolby Digital soundtrack is good but not too different from the original stereo sound. If you do not have this title in any format it is worth adding to your collection. It takes you back to the eighties when Tina Turner was at the peak of her success. For those who have a laserdisc copy of "Simply the Best", do not exchange it for the dvd copy. The quality of the Laserdisc is at least as good as the dvd and you get three video's extra (way of the world (2 versions) and I want you near me). Why Capitol or EMI did not update this release with her hits of the 90 s is a mystery to me...Or will we see a "Simply the best 2" coming soon ??

Love the long lost videos,

I got this one from my sister because she knows I love Tina so I was excited to see the track list. I was glad they had put the Nutsbush, Break Every Rule and many others on this DVD. What I wasn't glad with was the live versions. They are good but some had videos that could've been put on here instead. Another thing was the Private Dancer video was edited. I remember seeing a longer version of this video on the web and so i thought this is where they got it from but no. Oh well i'm no one to diss so I love this DVD and will cherish it as long as I live. And if another one comes out then I'll get that one too. i am happy with this DVD not only because it's Tina but because my sister drove all the way to another town to get it for me. Now that's love.

I was happy to find out Tina's vido collection 83-91 was coming to DVD. But however, I am disapointed with the selection. Both We Don't Need Another Hero and Typical Male are replaced with live performances (which there is nothing wrong with, as I do believe she is the quintessential live performer), but I haven't seen either video in years. Also Two People & One Of The Living as well as the live clips It's Only Love and Overnight Sensation (both of which were played on MTV in the 80's) are missing. However, what you get is still a very good overview of Tina's Capitol era.To those looking for the two Twenty Four Seven videos, pick up the CELEBRATE DVD. Those are included as bonuses.
