One of a Kind,
By Loco "Motive" (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Tiniest Warrior of All: A Fairytale for Families with a Premature Baby (Paperback)
This book is one of a kind and a definite must for any family with a premature baby. Both the story and the illustrations are beautifully done and deal with the complex and frightening experience of premature birth in a safe and positive way.
The littlest warrier is an inspiration to parent and child alike. My daughter says "even if someone looks tiny and weak they can be very strong and brave on the inside." The sort of story you won't mind reading over and over and over...

ENLIGHTENMENT,

I wish to thank the author for her fresh approach to a very difficult subject. Not only did I find this book practically useful for explaining life's unexplainable situations. I felt it gave me a sense of pride and hope when coping with the un-copable.

Gave us Strength,
By Christophers Mom (AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Tiniest Warrior of All: A Fairytale for Families with a Premature Baby (Paperback)
Our precious baby boy had to be delivered 3 months early to save my life and I experienced a horrible amount of guilt in addition to all the other feelings you have when you have a premie. This book, given to us by my father, was heaven sent. I read it to Christopher everyday during our visits with him at the hospital, it gave me hope and peace during a difficult time. We called Christopher our "Tiniest Warrior" from that time on and watched as he grew strong. This book is not just for children, it's a ray of sunshine in the life of any parent dealing with the emotions of having a premie.

Bizarre Book,

I really had high hopes for this book. My daughter, now 2.5, was born over 3 months early, and I was looking for a book that would help her understand her story. This book is NOT it! I even had trouble understanding it. The names are bizarre, the storyline is convoluted, and everything is told on an abstract, almost allegorical level. I also thought it was wildly overpriced - at nearly $15, I assumed it would be hardback, but it's only paperback.
I could see how this book might help parents make sense of the trauma of a premature birth, but it didn't help me, and it certainly was not appropriate for my daughter.

This book is great! It is a very difficult experience having a premature baby and having to explain all of the baby pictures with medical equipment can be a challenge. Thank you for such a wonderful book.

Story line of a NICU baby told in a fairy tale setting.
Would have been better if the book was available in hard back as would like this to be a permanent book in our family library. As a paperback book the paper quality is good and the art work fabulous. Story is good for parents to read to their little NICU survivor babies as they grow up.

This book is the best book for preemies and even for preemie parents. When I got this book I was just amazed by how heart felt it was and the beautiful way the author tells the story of the NICU. My LO is only 4 and a half months (1 month adjusted) but we love to read this to her and even enjoy reading it ourselves. If you have a preemie or know someone who does, this would be a great book to buy.

Poorly Done,

This review is from: The Tiniest Warrior of All: A Fairytale for Families with a Premature Baby (Paperback)
I had high hopes for this book, but the illustrations are amateurish and the text needs editing. This book goes way above the heads of most kids, describing the NICU doctors as wizards and such; parents really will have to sit down and explain the story afterwards. I give the author two stars for creativity, but this isn't a book I'm encouraged to share with children.

Not For Everyone... Even New Agers,
By WendyZ "wednesdayo" (NC Triangle Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Tiniest Warrior of All: A Fairytale for Families with a Premature Baby (Paperback)
As someone who loves fantasy and most things "New Age", I also had high hopes for this book. I've been there with a 2lb preemie, NICU for 3 months, and oxygen, monitors, specialists at home. I like talking to my daughter and answering her questions about being a preemie, but I didn't enjoy this book. I found it difficult to read seriously out loud and as if I was tricked into doing so... like I was on "Candid Camera".
Being in the Early Childhood field as well, not only do I believe creativity and pretending are invaluable, but also that children are never too young to learn proper terms and enriching vocabulary. My daughter is only 3 and she wants to know what it's called, how you spell it, and why is that its name?? She looked dazed and confused after reading this book. I recommend All I See Is Part of Me and On the Day You Were Born even though they are not about preemies. |
