Toys R Us has the 225 pcs. set for $39.99. Amazon is a rip off!

I bought this set for my grandchildren and they love it. But I was hoping to get a set that was like the one I had when I way a boy. Although this set has some different parts it lacks at least one of the parts of the old sets. The biggest problem with this set so far is that size of the holes in the round wheels and connectors seem to be of inconsistent size and the sticks will not stay in some of them. Also, there is no instruction book or plans for things to build in this set so the kids have no guidance on what to build. Overall this set is pretty good and someone who never played with the old sets will be satisfied.

This is the largest Tinkertoy set I could find. Great Christmas toy for my grandson, and a good nostalgia trip for me!

I have fond memories of building with Tinkertoys and was anxious to share this experience with my 6-year-old. Upon opening the tin, wonderful pieces within and seemed very good, however, beware, the round connection circles are not as durable as the classic collection and within 2 days, two were broken. Some of the sticks vary slightly in width as well, making the connection points weak and difficult to sustain the structures.

Still a great builder's toy and my son has been going, going, going for days and new creations now.

Although there are a few plastic hinged pieces now, this is still pretty much the same classic toy. The kids seem to have as much fun making specific things as they do just putting pieces together and making nothing in particular. Probably the toy played with most since Christmas.

We thought that we were getting glow-in-the-dark Tinkertoys. These aren't. Only the flags glow in the dark. We were very disappointed.

I was curious whether my four year old daughter would enjoy the set, especially because it doesn't look like it was dipped in Pepto Bismal. I hyped the role play aspects (let's make a super car for your dollhouse friends), and she was off an building!! She is NOT interested in building to make things exactly like the pictures, but she is very interested in making creative things her dolls and toy animals can use, and then playing with the creations. She just turned four, and so far this is a toy that she likes to play with with me, but isn't picking up by herself.

As for the set itself, I agree that some of the sticks are not a perfect fit, but with so many pieces, it doesn't seem like this will be a problem. The set is large, but the container holds everything easily. Everything feels solid. I like the new kinds of pieces (hinged connectors, monster truck wheels, glow flags, and more) and I think this adds to the toy.

Not the tinker toys I remember from my youth, this sets pieces are bigger and I don't necessarily think of that as a good thing. Nevertheless, the fun, creativity and imagination stemming from a toy that lets users play their own way cannot be denied. Also bucket is big enough to get all pieces inside without having to play a game of rubik's cube to put them away.

Bought these for young boys ages 9 and 6. They loved them. I had a key chain with small tinker toys and they loved playing with those. That is why I bought this big set. Tinker toys do not get a lot of play as toys for children these days but they should. Stimulate creativiy, group play etc.

I ordered this set plus the instruction booklet. The instruction booklet pieces do not equate with the pieces in the set; therefore it is useless. Also, the holes in the knobs don't hold the sticks tightly after less than one year of occasional use (at Nanna's house). I'm looking for an original set - wooden pieces that will continue to "hold" and instructions that match up with the pieces.
