Review

"Tiny Blue Lines is the perfect choice for that young woman facing an unexpected pregnancy. Chaunie Brusie's brave telling of her own story opens the doors for other young women to be honest with themselves and their situations. Throughout this book, you will be guided through Brusie's experience, as well as be introduced to many young moms who have been through this. While those tiny blue lines mark the end of one journey, they introduce a new beginning--full of new experiences and opportunities! Tiny Blue Lines reminds mothers that they are strong enough to embrace the challenges and welcome the joys of young motherhood. This book will provide great encouragement for any young woman as she courageously pursues this new life."--Kristan Hawkins, President, Students for Life of America

"How easy it is to forget that at the center of the Christian story is a woman in an unplanned pregnancy. Chaunie Brusie reveals how she was not alone in her own turbulent transition to motherhood--how God holds each life precious and lights the way forward. Tiny Blue Lines is a triumph of faith and courage, and a treasury of resources for all who choose life."--Margaret H. Hartshorn, President, Heartbeat International

"You'll find yourself changed and improved by the journey you'll take with Chaunie Brusie in Tiny Blue Lines. Buckle up, saddle up, and get ready: you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be close to rolling on the floor. It will not only impact your worldview, it will give you hope and encouragement in equal measure." --Sarah Reinhard, Author of A Catholic Mother's Companion to Pregnancy

It's the book twenty-something mothers have been waiting for.

Brusie explores the world of unplanned pregnancy through the eyes of motivated, accomplished mothers (including herself) who have battled judgement, guilt, and circumstance to achieve their dreams. Tiny Blue Lines empowers young women who meet motherhood at unexpected times with confidence and laughter, and assures them that facing a pregnancy does NOT mean their careers and dreams are extinct. Equipped with resources for current expecting college students and guides for those who might want to support a young mother in their pregnancy and goals, Tiny Blue Lines is the book that will inspire young moms to say "I Can."

Whether you're a young mom facing an unplanned pregnancy, a Christian looking for some genuine perspective, or someone who's "been there" yourself-- Brusie's words will change the way you see young motherhood.

Chaunie Brusie relates real life unvarnished anecdotes that resonate with young women who find themselves pregnant and unprepared for motherhood. What to do?

She answers a plethora of questions in humorous, practical, and life-affirming chapters that cover such daunting problems as how to tell our parents, what happens to career plans, do I tie the knot with daddy, how will I fund a baby, and the very important question of who will lend a sympathetic ear.

Titled with the tiny blue lines that appear on many drugstore pregnancy tests, the book offers advice primarily to college-age women. Chapter Nine, for example, “Is There a Syllabus for Parenthood? Being a Student and a Mom” provides survival guidelines for continuing in college during pregnancy. Additional resources at the conclusion of the narrative discuss important considerations about marriage, and there is an excellent list of resources for pregnant and parenting students.

Chaunie Brusie's personal story continues on her blog by the same title. Her book is readable, entertaining, practical, current, and narrated by a young and in-touch mom who reaches out with compassion and advice to other young women who find themselves facing the choice of affirming or denying life itself. Chaunie chooses life for herself, her babies, and her readers.

So many books for young women facing unplanned pregnancy focus on heavy spiritual rhetoric, impractical advice, or tell women to focus on the blessing of a baby. I loved this book because Chaunie doesn't do any of that--instead, she's real about the challenges that unplanned pregnancy brings, while providing real stories from women (like her) who have been there and gone on to succeed professionally and in their family lives. It's relatable, inspirational, and it shows that an unplanned pregnancy doesn't mean your life has to be over!!

I am a young mother as well, now 26 with 3 kids, but I WISH I this book in my hands as a nervous (and guilt ridden) 19 year old. It is so relatable and comforting to know that it is normal and okay to feel the good AND the bad emotions that young mothers may face...and how to get past them. It is full of insight and practical advice from someone who has been there before. This book is a tool for any young mom as well as a person hoping to support a young mom in her new path. Highly, highly recommend it. I couldn't put it down (ya know, except for when the kids needed me)!

When Chaunie Marie Brusie faced an unplanned pregnancy in her senior year of college, she didn’t know where to turn for help. Now an obstetric nurse, married mother of three, and founder of TinyBlueLines.com, she is working hard to make sure that other young women have resources to help them cope with this unexpected and profound life change.

Profoundly pro-life, "Tiny Blue Lines" is designed to help young Catholic women realize that life isn’t over simply because of an unplanned pregnancy. Brusie offers her own support and encouragement as well as wisdom garnered from many other young mothers who have thrived and succeeded despite challenging circumstances.

Brusie understands why abortion can seem like an appealing option, especially when facing one’s own guilt, as well as the condemnation of others. She emphasizes the need for young mothers to serve as role models and share their stories so that other scared young woman can realize that having a child at a young age is doable and that it doesn’t mean life is over.

Topics covered in Tiny Blue Lines include: how to tell your parents, things to consider before getting married, dealing with feelings of guilt, the truth about giving birth, reclaiming your life, dealing with rude people, and going to college while a young mom. While geared especially for young moms, many of the topics are applicable for mothers of any age.

For those of us who are beyond this stage of our lives, it is helpful to read this book to understand the challenges that young mothers face so that we can be more supportive and understanding. Especially for those of us who claim to be a pro-life, an important of component of that is supporting those who are facing unplanned pregnancy. Brusie includes a talking guide for religious and pro-life organizations so that well-intentioned people can be more aware of what to say and what not to say to a woman facing a crisis pregnancy.
