Editorial Reviews

2012 debut album from this original member of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Tiny Prayers is a 10-song collection exploring a wide range of emotions while anchored in the cardinal folk tradition of simplicity. Elemental song structures and spartan acoustic arrangements bring Aaron Embry, who cut his teeth recording and touring with Elliott Smith, Willie Nelson, Daniel Lanois, and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, among others

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Voice, Music, Lyrics September 20, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I heard this entire album on Spinner, and I'm so glad I did! Never heard of Aaron Embry, but after listening to the album, I looked him up on Amazon to see what else I was missing from him. Looks like this is his debut. The first thing you notice is that his voice is beautifully crystal clear. The music and lyrics are so mesmerizing, you can't stop listening. I don't have the liner notes yet, but sounds like piano, guitar and harmonica are the major instruments. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a long, successful career. I look forward to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ravishing November 13, 2012
By tierny
Format:MP3 Music
Aaron Embry possesses a unique, unisex voice that is alternately wistful, pleading and accepting. He works within his vocal limitations beautifully, to the point you think they are benefits. His songs (musical phrases) summon up Americana, the fatalism of the old West, the easy lilt of Dylan, Calexico, and Ry Cooder, with a page taken from 70's country. There's a lot of quiet between the notes. His idiom is familiar but whatever his sources, he's an original. He sounds like a 2012 performance artist (Banhardt?) in an 1860's saloon. This is the sort of voice I've been waiting for.

I heard a song of his on the radio today and bought the cd the same day. That never happens.
If there are any reservations, I'd like to hear a good 6 or 7 minute song by him. these are mere fragments... evocative, but fragments nonetheless.
