4.0 out of 5 stars Mining the tones
"Tiny Reminders" is a superb example of what true soundmeisters can concoct in the studio. This album is a feast for the ears! The Swordsmen have melded hip-hop beats with a European techno sensibility to forge a future urban sound as heard through a child's ears. Simple, yet elegant and danceable with a cool attitude.

I found this at a Half Price Books while digging through. I noticed that they released this album on Warp and that I had seen them on the label's website but I had yet to listen, so I thought I would buy it on a whim.

Well... this CD is pretty AWESOME! If you are a fan of Frankie Bones/Detroit type techno, then pick this up! While I was expecting more from this CD, i am surprised to find that it sounds a bit like Mr. OIZO (broken speaker, clicks and hard funky bass lines, though not as HIP HOP) Definetly pick this one up! If I had to classify this release I would call it "IDM/techno" Only gripe I HAVE is theres not enough interesting samples!

I was introduced to Two Lone Swordsmen a while back with their Stay Down release. I was impressed to say the least. With their new effort Tiny Reminders, they all but abandon the underwater sound of Stay Down but retain the dub element in some of their tracks. Collectively I would have to say that this is the most refreshing electronica I have heard in a long time. (and I listen to alot of electronica) This cd is not really "dancey" but definately alot closer to dance than Stay Down. Makes you wanna shake your ass...but not your whole body. If I had to compare this cd to something I would say a cross between Mu-ziq and Plaid (Both on their better days). But if you are looking for a unique infectious sound, this cd is definately for you. Fans of Wagon Christ, Jega, and Plaid should put this on your "to buy" list.

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible album from a previously mediocre duo, September 23, 2000

Weatherall and Tenniswood have moved in an amazing new direction with this one; their previous work hinted at possible greatness in the future, and here you have it. Every one of these 19 tracks is unique, but something holds them all together making for a peerless and greatly satisfying listen; from track to track, you could be on the dance floor one minute and feverishly tuning your radio knob the next. Buy with confidence.

3.0 out of 5 stars My entrance to Two Lone Swordsmen, August 20, 2007
This review is from: Tiny Reminders (Audio CD)
I found this at a Half Price Books while digging through. I noticed that they released this album on Warp and that I had seen them on the label's website but I had yet to listen, so I thought I would buy it on a whim.

The first seven tracks of Tiny Reminders leave much to be desired. They are bouncy and fun with a hint of mystery but their sounds are far from unique, using the same drums and noises I've heard on numerous other records. Once track 8 came around though, the album seemed to take a turn for the better. The songs sped up a little and there seemed to be more to them, more layers, more interesting sounds. The first seven were warm up tracks I suppose but the rest of the album grabs my attention and brings me nicely to the ending track with a surprisingly more rock-sounding track.

Rarely do I buy CDs on a whim like I did with this one, but I will say I wasn't dissapointed and it is one that I am glad to have in my collection and will pull out from time to time. If you're new to electronic music you'll most likely really like this. If you're not but need something new to listen to because what you have you're tired of, you'll most likely enjoy this until you're ready to pull out your other albums again.

4.0 out of 5 stars A return to form for Mr. Weatherall and Mr. Tenniswood, October 13, 2001

After the somewhat disappointing 'Stay Down', 'Tiny Reminders shows us why we did rate these two artists so highly in the first place.

They obviously decided on a new, simple approach and this album has a very basic feel. When you're listening to it sometimes you find yourself thinking that some of the sounds that you hear must have been created by the earliest keyboards and synths available!

This is a plus as what these two guys can do with it is extraordinary. The songs are well worked and have great melodies. The tone is mainly electro, and tracks click along with full foot tapping and head nodding mode in gear.

Their mastery of equipment is superb, check out the brilliant 'Notting Hill'! While for all you Deep House heads out there, get movin' to the extremely basic groove of 'The Bunker'.

This is an album full of delights and is definitely one for the stereo! Get it now.

Stay Down was the work of two mad geniuses. Tiny Reminders is the work of two geniuses gone completely mad. The songs on this album are like none you've heard before. Track 3 is worth the purchase in itself. Each song starts off simply and evolves into complicated yet streamlined rhythms that move every bone in your body. Whereas Stay Down sounded like you were listening to minimalist music underwater, Tiny Reminders takes you out of the water and propels you into the clouds. A beautiful album.

this was my first two lone swordsmen album and it's still my favorite. after listening to this one i went out and bought everything else i could find. there are a few tracks that aren't up to snuff, but overall it's a great listen with some real bangers on it. it uses the full disc which might work to its disadvantage as an album, but in this mp3 age i think it's an even better album because the lesser tracks can easily be forgotten. songs to check out: tracks 1-3, track 9, track 15, and track 16 (my favorite).
