Editorial Reviews

From the Author

The Tiny Town was inspired by a dream I had after visiting the town of Mondsee in Austria. Teachers love the use of color as a teaching tool; young readers respond to the use of alliteration in the text; and older readers from small towns share that the story is a good depiction of small-town life. Illustrator Cheryl Biddix added intrigue in painting mice into the story. Children love searching for them!

There was a tiny town tucked between the mountains and the shore of the sea where all of the buildings were painted their own special color.

There were houses the color of pink bubble gum and lime sherbet and the bright blue of the sky, and shops painted like green apples and strawberry milkshakes. The colors were delicious - and unique.

Colors so bright and vivid they jump off the page. Melanie tells a story that reminds us that change although sometimes hard to accept can turn out for the best. A wonderful story that excites the senses and teaches a lesson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Or, the town of many colors, June 21, 2000
By A Customer

Another favorite of my girls, once they outgrew "Where do Falling Stars Go?. This delightful book, with it's beautiful watercolor illustrations, is sure to charm you and your children. Once again, Miss Melanie uses verse that involves the reader and keeps them wondering what will happen next. This enjoyable story, with heroine Tess, helps children realize that we are all unique - and that change is good! This is a fun story that your children will delight in for many nights of bedtime stories.
