5.0 out of 5 stars NFG doing it right
This is not for the fan who likes their original pop sound, but for the fan who understands where they came from and where their sound started with. Come on guys, they were on Eulogy.

Anyone who is a fan or understands anything about where the sound they love comes from needs to know this album makes complete sense and is perfect in every way possible. NFG's...

1.0 out of 5 stars Um, is this a joke?
Tip of the Iceberg/Takin' It Ova! is made up of two CDs.
The first disc is 6 songs by NFG. Nothin too special on this disc. A couple ok songs that are way too short.
The second disc is made up of 10 songs(?). I don't even think you can call them songs, though. It feels like they just got together one night and recorded it as a joke. The CD is that bad. I'm a...

This review is from: Tip of the Iceberg / Takin It Ova (Audio CD)
The first disc off the album is great, one of my favorite NFG records yet. But the second disc, I hate to say it, but it stinks. Its basically the guys from NFG making fun of hardcore kids, while they do have it coming to them, I would like to see New Found Glory stick to their guns, and be the pop punk band everyone has loved over the past decade.

Anyone who is a fan or understands anything about where the sound they love comes from needs to know this album makes complete sense and is perfect in every way possible. NFG's early beginnings started off with touring with Hardcore bands, and with Chad's past history with Shai Hulud and actively working in the hxc scene (producing the newest H20 Album) this just comes natural. They cover Lifetime, and lets face it, without lifetime there would be no Saves the day or NFG. Gorilla biscuits, lifetime, and shelter are just a few bands who helped pioneer the music you love today.

5.0 out of 5 stars HAHAHAH whhaaaaaaaaa?????!!!, July 20, 2008

WOW... all i can say is wow.
They (ISHC) pull off hardcore like no tomorrow OMFG... and they do it the way it should be done. I sure hope this is the beginning of something new cause lets face it... their old style has kind of gotten old anyways. I am very happy that they are turning away from the mainstream and making it all about the music again.

Both Cd's are amazing, totally worth the money and don't listen to the bad reviews unless you expect the same exact cd again... This is them experimenting with new grounds with both bands. The first cd (NFG) is fast punk style while the second cd (ISHC) is straight up hardcore... i mean come on Madball's got their back.

Music has matured since their earlier days and they have always had ties with the HXC scene... I guess all you mainstream NFG fans never saw that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringin it back, finally, May 5, 2008
This review is from: Tip of the Iceberg / Takin It Ova (Audio CD)
Alright, I've been a longtime NFG fan and know there signature sound is not like this at all with the exception of a few songs on past discs(Track 1 on their self titled) and I've been a follower and fan of Chad's past guest appearances and his Shai Hulud LP. Anyho, this is a great disc for those whom have been a fan of old school hardcore and fans of NFG. They bring in a newer, fresher sound on the EP and a totally revamped sound on their new side project, ISOH. If you wanna hear all that winning and bitching with the 3 chord sound then don't come looking here expect harder and heavier sound only found by those of past that seemed hidden in their original style. ISOH has Jordan finally putting his guitar skills into light only found in acoustic versions but now he's getting down and getting it old school. For the lyrics sounding kinda goofy and nerdish on some songs but really telling all those scene kids how it really is, they definetly checked themselves so they didn't wreck themselves. Hope this project stays and just gets bigger and never losing sight of who they really are, the little band from Coral Springs whom new hardcore in its greatness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stupid Kids, Shut The Fu*k Up!, June 2, 2008
This review is from: Tip of the Iceberg / Takin It Ova (Audio CD)
This is my favorite release the NFG has ever released. The people trashing the seconded disc don't know anything about hardcore, so shut it. It's both funny, AND great sounding. The EP has three alright song, and three good covers. If you like NFG, and do, in fact, know you're music, then buy it for yourself. and if you can, get the vinly releases of these two disc.

The second disc is made up of 10 songs(?). I don't even think you can call them songs, though. It feels like they just got together one night and recorded it as a joke. The CD is that bad. I'm a huge NFG fan and I can't even listen to it! Horrible music and just plain embarrasing lyrics.
If you're a fan, borrow the first disc from a friend but don't waste your money on this two set CD.

2.0 out of 5 stars A New Found Horror, September 3, 2008
This review is from: Tip of the Iceberg / Takin It Ova (Audio CD)
Having been a fan of NFG since their esteemed punk cover debut, through their Punk/Rock god years, to last year's excellent punk cover sequal, I was exited to hear new NFG material. And now I really wish I hadn't. But to fairly grade it, you must divide the discs from the NFG to the ISOH.

NFG: First off, it's incredibly short, clocking around 2 minutes per song. Clearly they're taking a more punkish approach here, and it doesn't really work with their new material. With the covers, which are covers of songs you've never herd of, are very foul-mouthed, have terrible lyrics, and are in most cases just bad music. Sure, you might find something you might like somewhere in this mess, but it's by far the worst NFG has ever done.

1/5

ISOH: This is the spin-off band of NFG, where Pundik is on guitars, and that other guy is on vocals. The result is a hardcore punk band, which is certainly an interesting take for the band. For those you like that type of music, or just wanted to see a new direction for the band, this is certainly it. It's build around a superhero theme, and the songs are both ironic and witty/strange. "Dirty Mouth" probably illustrates the band the best, with its role model set-up, and contradicting lyrics, "We'll preach you to heck, see, I could've said 'hell!'" With songs like this, it'll you'll be both confused, and you'll probably like what you hear. However, the problem with hardcore punk is that all the songs sound the same. There's no room for slow songs or ballads, no room for expierimenting or variety, and that's why the genre mostly died back in the 80s. They do however fill a nice niche.

3/5

Personally, I think NFG should put out a farewell project, call it quits, then take up ISOH full-time. It would be a new take for the band, and it would give them the chance to regroup, while taking themselves totally out of the element they helped pioneer, and launch into a throwback project they can have fun with, with no pressure, because its a strictly niche genre. It's been a fun ride NFG, but this project totally killed your momentum. Let's hope ISOH doesn't take the same nose-dive.
