About the Author

Maggie Griffin is a retired hospital administrator turned co-star of her daughter Kathy's Bravo show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. She lives in West Hollywood. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

More About the Author

Maggie Griffin grew up in Chicago, the youngest of sixteen children born to Irish immigrant parents. She met Johnny, the love of her life, in Chicago, started dating him after high school (while working at the Form Fit Bra factory in the returns department), and they fell in love and married during the War. Together they raised five children, the youngest a cutie named Kathleen, who never gave them a moment's trouble throughout her childhood--though it's been payback time ever since.

As Kathy's comedy career took off, more and more stories of Maggie magically worked their way into Kathy's routines. And as a regular on Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, Maggie takes more guff from her daughter than any other mom on national television. Well, after having her life put on comic display by the loudmouthed redhead she fed, clothed, and cared for well into the comedian's adulthood, Maggie finally has the floor, and she has some business to share with you.

So get out your Franzia, stir up some Hamburger Helper, and dive into the world according to Maggie.

You can just hear Maggie and Kathy's voices as you read this book; I laughed out loud a LOT and felt like Maggie's opinions on certain issues were my mom's as well.

I have to agree with all of the other reviewer's of this extremely well-written, funny book - Maggie Griffin is an American treasure! She's like your grandmother - funny, sweet, down-to-earth, full of wisdom and common sense - and yet, you wouldn't want to cross her (especially when you read her letter to the thief who stole an antique sword right out of their basement!). I've always loved Kathy Griffin - she tells it like it is and when she started doing "My Life on the D-List" we got to know more about her private life which included her wonderful parents - John and Maggie Griffin. The first time I saw them on camera - tippin' that box of wine I was hooked, lol!

Now Maggie has become a star in her own right and I absolutely loved this book - I read it in one day and I laughed out loud throughout most of it. Kathy's comments on what her mother wrote are hysterical and I can't recommend this book enough. Maggie reminds me of my own grandmother - especially when she dispenses her home-spun wisdom of "been there, done that" - and it all made sense. Her observations of today's movies, TV, fashion sense, TV personalities, relationships and life in general are not only funny but right on the mark. And I especially loved the story of her long and happy marriage to Kathy's father - it reminded me so much of my grandparent's marriage as well.

God Bless Maggie Griffin - she's a hoot and a half and I hope she keeps "Tipping It" for many more years to come!

As a fan of Kathy Griffin, I am a bigger fan of her Mom, Maggie. This book is a light read with lots of laughs, input from Kathy, and some good old common sense thrown in. The only problem I had with the book is I wanted more. And wait to you see the pictures of Maggie in her younger days what a beautiful woman she was and still is. Loved It!!!

I just got the book yesterday and I'm almost finish. I have laughed my ass off! I love the part when she talks about how she and Johnny used to hang out at Rage. I met my husband there and when we lived in West Hollywood were would always go there for lunch on the weekends. When I told my parents about it, they would always end up there when they would come down to visit. My husband always used to say to his co-workers ... "You'll never believe where my in-law are at".

Oh Christ on the cross, if only my parents had hooked up with Maggie and Johnny goddamn it!

This book is a scream and Maggie is just a treasure!

As I returned home from the grocery store, with my box of Franzia White, I found the postman had delivered my copy of "Tip It". Hmmm .. was this the Universe speaking? I quickly opened my box 'o wine and sat down to read. Before I knew it, I was tippin' back the box and laughing so hard mt eyes were watering! Aside from the humor, I found this book very revealing. I thought I knew everything about Kathy and Maggie but now I realize I didn't know enough! I want more.

This is a book you don't just read once. I have been carrying it around with me and sharing "Maggie-isms" with anyone who will listen. I am NOT a book reviewer (obviously), but I am a huge fan. I love this little book! Thanks for sharing Maggie! (and Kathleen).

This book was just a lot of fun to read. Maggie is as funny in the book as she was on the D List. She could be anyone's mother, grandmother, or favorite aunt. Being a "baby boomer", with parents who grew up during the depression, I recognized a lot of her old sayings and couldn't help but laugh.

If you love Maggie from "her show" on Bravo, you're going to love her book. I'm a huge fan of My Life on the D-List and as viewers we always hear Kathy's side of her mom's story. Tip It changes that. Maggie tells it like it is, in short, sweet chapters. This book is really well written, has tons of funny stories, and makes you love Maggie even more. Her voice really comes through in this book and I was laughing out loud during many sections. She's a classy lady! Read this book already!
