Rough and Raw Rockabilly,
By
This review is from: Tip Top Daddy (Audio CD)
If you are serious about rockabilly, you should add "Tip Top Daddy" to your collection. The late Charlie Feathers claimed to be the nucleus at Sun Records and everyone's mentor. The truth came up some what short of his claims, although his music captured the essence of rockabilly music and he was defintely an influence on the others at Sun and a truly great artist . "Tip Top Daddy" is a collection of demos from 1958-1973. I'm assuming most of the songs were written by Feathers, although there are covers such as the Carl and Pearl Butler classic "Don't Let Me Cross Over." The CD cover doesn't give a lot of information regarding much of anything other than quotes from Feathers. It is rockabilly/county at its most basic, fundamental form. Its mostly an acoustic guitar, slap bass and Charlie's unique vocals and a lot of rough edges. "Tip Top Daddy" is not for everyone, but a must for rockabilly enthusiasts.
