First off, I just want to point out a couple of things. The developers did a good job trying to make a decent quality app that kids would enjoy - and they succeeded. Kids can potentially have a lot of fun coloring and drawing with this app. There are several drawing instruments to use and the ability to save your work is given as well. Also, while there is in-app purchasing, there is a way to disable it in the options menu, and there is no billing permission that usually comes attached with these apps.

That being said, this is a kids app, and in-app purchasing has no business being in a kids app. It is too easy for the kid to explore and accidentally buy the expansions, even with the disable function. The devs really would be better off selling the app at a higher price with everything available than subjecting kids to decisions that they are not necessarily ready to make.

I would love to give this app four stars and recommend getting it today. However, the most I can give it right now is one star. It really is a cute application, but the in-app purchasing has to go.

- Sam

The first review is correct. This is not a full version, but a sample of the complete set of coloring pages. The first set of pages - Halloween theme - is unlocked. The other 7 seven sets of coloring pages must be paid for (at $.99 each) to unlock everything. Why offer this as the FAOTD when it's only a sample of the complete set? Sneaky.

Let's talk about the coloring book part of this app first. Yes, it works well and does come with 20 cute Halloween themed coloring pages as promised. The coloring tools are pretty decent, with the usual range of colors, erasers, clip art inserts, etc. You can also zoom in using multi-touch. There's even an ability to take a picture with your camera or use an existing photo/image from your phone's gallery and use it as a coloring template. It certainly is designed for kids, and I think the developers did a decent job.

But that was the coloring book. Now let's talk about the sketchy in-app-purchase (IAP) part of the app. Right next to the Halloween coloring book are additional icons with locks on them. These take you to pages of additional coloring material (not sure book or just one image, not very clear). Each book/image costs $0.99 extra. There are at least 40 such easily accessible purchases, so your kid can easily buy $40 worth of additional coloring pages just like that.

But wait, there's more!

There's another icon for "Art Store", where you can indeed buy more "art supplies" such as more coloring books and virtual stickers. At least here the price seems somewhat more reasonable, at $0.99 per book (the more I look at the previous sections, I am pretty sure it's indeed $0.99 for EACH COLORING PAGE). The installed footprint is 36.38MB on my phone. Pretty big considering its function. But it makes sense with all the additional in-app-purchasing stuff.

Honestly, I am pretty sure there are other coloring book apps that don't have such egregious in-app-purchasing push. Also, it's already a paid app. It's not cool to double-dip. Either be a free app with IAP or be paid app with no strings attached.

But...

Just a scheme to get you to purchase several other coloring books. At least it offers more protection from curious kids accidentally having a spending spree.

As for the actual functioning of the app, it is huge download for not a lot of coloring pages. Of course, there are many different types of coloring implementations, which is nice, and serves as an introductory app of true art software to children.

Unfortunately, the 'photo' function of the software fails on my Samsung Victory. While not a high-end phone, it isn't anywhere near a low-end phone.

But to recap, if you download and install this, you'll quickly discover this is nothing more than a 'light' version designed to get you to shell out lots of bucks for other coloring books.

SUMMARY: PASS. Just a 'trial' in disguise...

ENOUGH with the in - app purchase. Please give an upfront full price option for completely unlocked app. Otherwise do not list it as full version.

This is a very small coloring app disguised to sell more to you .. Your kids will play for a few minutes, then ask for more because they're offered more- for a price. No thank you.

The app itself is functional and works just fine, there are a lot of different ways to color and shade and the pictures are cute. I like that two people can color at the same time and the zoom is nice for detail work.

I also think it's shady to hide a dynamic content rating on an app that is clearly intended for the 7 and under set. There is no real protection here because the developer reserves the right to let in all manner of ads, links, or offers to buy more things.

All the above resulted in a delete.

This must be a new low. I didnt know we were letting little kid games have In App Purchases. I think this developer missed the entire point of the Free App of The Day model. FAOTD give android users exposure to a developer and if the user likes what they see they will hopefully buy other games made by the developer. Im certain Future games made by this developer will not be made by me.
