ACT actually makes a difference!,
By
This review is from: Tippmann 98 Custom Pro Basic w/ A.C.T. (Anti-Chop Technology) (Sports)
I have a friend with a T98 that doesnt have ACT, and his gun chops balls every now and then, while mine has NEVER chopped any balls! (and I've shot a few thousand rounds with this). I've modded the gun to look like an AK47, and I must say that I'm very proud of it.One thing to mention. The Amazon website recommends a certain stock to buy with this gun in a combo deal (as of Jan 07). THESE PARTS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER!!! I e-mailed amazon about this and never got a reply (thanks jerks!) Thankfully I just sold the stock to my friend with the other T98. So the moral of the story here is that if you are ever looking for a stock for this gun, look for one that specifically states that it is made for Tippmann 98s WITH ACT!!!!! Otherwise the stock wont fit! Bottom line: If you want a decent gun to start paintballing with, just shell out the cash for one of these, you'll thank yourself when you get addicted to paintballing and want to modify the beast.

2nd Best Gun Ever,
This gun is great, great for beginners and pros. I used it in several large scenario games and it has not failed on me once. All the scenarios I played in were about 6-7 hours too and the only problem with this thing is the noise. It is a very liud shot so dont get this if you want to be a sniper or something. But for most people this is a good priced EXCELENT gun, dont listen to that other guy who gave it one star, I would recommend to him turning the velocity above 100fps so it shoots! And the A.C.T. is great doesnt chop balls with its slow feed rate! But this is the secind best gun because of the A5. The A5 is built like the Ak47, extremley reliable and is built like a tank. But if you are new or a pro in paintball, this is an excelent gun and well worth the money, and since it is a pro, I would recommend getting and E Grip and a Cyclone Feed System, then you almost have an A5 but at that point its better to get an A5.

Love the Custom Pro,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tippmann 98 Custom Pro Basic w/ A.C.T. (Anti-Chop Technology) (Sports)
I love this marker! If I were to do it all over again I would by a Tippmann Custom Pro in a heartbeat. It's durable, reliable, low maintainence, and works like a champ on HPA. My paintball buddies have several different types of markers including several PMI's and a couple A5's, and ALL of them have had problems while the guys with Custom 98/Pro's just keep playing. I would recommend getting a Rocket Cock II as the first upgrade, but other than that the stock Custom Pro is an excellent recreational marker. My _only_ complaint is the 98 is an air hog (but we just bought a scuba tank so that no longer matters )

Best gun for the money,
This review is from: Tippmann 98 Custom Pro Basic w/ A.C.T. (Anti-Chop Technology) (Sports)
This is the best paintball gun for a new player. The barrel on the custom pro is worth the extra money. It will give you a little more distance and accuracy over a stock 98 barrel. ACT is great. I haven't chopped a ball yet. This gun from amazon.com is the same price as a standard 98 custom from WalMart and you don't pay tax.

Good all-over marker,
By Tormod B. Pedersen (Wisconsin, USA) - See all my reviews This gun is a very good choice for players that want to mainly play woodsball but also try speedball. For only speedball, you might want to consider another tippmann marker or a maker with better bps(balls per second), but i will highly recommend that you get your marker with ACT(Anti Chop Technology). With ATC you dont break paintballs as easily as you do without when you play. Good choice that i absolutely did not regret!

D-Day,
A Kid's Review
I played in D-Day at Skirmish PA, you know the biggest paintball scenario play in history, yeah well there was a massive amount of cassulties, and we lost a lot of good men out there, but we won, go allies!!!! anyway i waz 1 of only 650 paintball pros, out of those 650, we lost 609 or 10 somethin' like dat, any way, most of the time in my squad we had stagglers pop'n up constently w/ ur average brass eagle or kingman spyder crap!!!It kept me in the game 100% of da time, so itz great 4 proz and begginers, GO ALLIES

awesome marker, but...,

This review is from: Tippmann 98 Custom Pro Basic w/ A.C.T. (Anti-Chop Technology) (Sports)
This is the most comprehensive review you'll get on this gun, so be ready to read a lot. This gun is awesome--this gun also sucks. Depending on what you're looking for, you'll either love this gun, really adore it, or really hate it. Let's start with the bad of it: NOISY AS CRAP, A TAD HEAVY (ESPECIALLY IF YOU ACCESSORIZE), and not very aesthetic. It is NOT a speedsball gun!!! Even with full auto on e-trigger, you can't compete with a speedsballer using a '98. If you're a woodsballer, however... tippmann 98 should be the best or one of the best guns you'll ever have, BUT--UPGRADES, UPGRADES, UPGRADES. The problem with the gun is its range--go for the apex barrel if you can. Also, it kicks like a mule. Try to get the ACT zero kick hammer (sold on Amazon for about $50). So, $100 upgrades so far. Honestly, I trust mechanical stuff more than electronics, so I have a response trigger. Light trigger, but I don't go crazy with it--one shot, one kill as woodsballers love to say--$70 more. And finally a decent hopper (anywhere between $50-100). So realistically for about 250 $ more than the gun costs you can get the upgrades which are basically necessary if you want a VERY ACCURATE GUN WITH VERY LITTLE KICK, 5-8 balls per second, EXTREME DURABILITY, and ABSOLUTELY NO CHOPS IN GUN. I've shot probably somewhere between 20-25,000 paintballs and have had no chops. ACT IS INCREDIBLE!!!My current gun is a Tippmann 98 custom pro ACT with response trigger, APEX (I also have a ceramic barrel and the stock barrel and an 18" unusable barrel), a Tippmann forcefeed hopper, Rap4 clamp feed neck. I wear a Rap4 vest, and highly recommend their products. I also have a 72 cu. inch HPA tank with 3000 psi. The gun does eat a lot of gas, but can reach about 6-700 rounds per tank. It is noisy, but most guns are noisy. The only gun for woodsball which I've found almost silent is the BT TM-15--it is a truly incredible gun, but I have yet to see how dependable it is. One of my other friends has a T68 RAP4, but it needs much investment and it's EXTREMELY pretentious when it comes to paint. A '98 can shoot just about anything that will fit in it's barrel. The good: EXTREMELY DEPENDABLE, NO CHOPS, ACCURATE (WITH UPGRADES), WAY LESS MAINTENANCE THAN ANY OTHER GUN OUT THERE, MECHANICAL--I REPEAT, MECHANICAL--NO ELECTRONIC B.S., RUGGED (I'VE HEARD STORIES OF TWO-STORY FALLS--I'VE DROPPED MY GUN INTO MUD, WATER, AND BEEN COVERED IN PAINT--NO PROBLEMS), TIPPMANN. If you're not willing to spend an extra four hours fixing your gun AFTER THE GAME, then get this gun. If you want a gun which will shoot the crappiest and best of paint with no complaints. If you want a gun which has very good accuracy (again, after upgrades) and shoots at a decent speed without much variance get this one. If you want a marker that will probably last longer than any other one that you will buy, get this one. If you want to get something a bit better I would suggest BT products or the Phenom. But honestly, if you're just getting into paintball ask a friend or just rent one. Get a feel for it. It's a common gun, but it is the AK-47 of paintball guns. Make it a bit better and you have a sniper AK-47. This is an investment gun, which will not let you down. Cheers. (If you have money to burn, there a several guns which cost about $400 for their basic versions, but those are highly recommended for players with some experience--I am one of those, but will stick to my '98 for a while--it has proven to be a loyal shooter and not pretentious or inconsistent).

One of the Best on the Market,

This review is from: Tippmann 98 Custom Pro Basic w/ A.C.T. (Anti-Chop Technology) (Sports)
I have owned this gun for five years now, I purchased this same gun before the A.C.T. was out and mine is camo, but besides that it is the same gun.I have played hundreds of rounds of paintball with this gun. I used to play about every weekend and have never regretted purchasing this gun. The durability is amazing, the accuracy of the body is wonderful and the CO2 intake has never been a problem for me. One thing to note is the butterfly trigger is to no real benefit. I knew this when I was getting it but it is not designed to double tap on and is ultimately just for comfort. If you are looking to improve your speed you should probably get an egrip, rocket trigger or a different gun. I love the drop forward on this gun it levels the weight of the gun out more and gives you a straighter shot when you move the gun up to eye level. So pretty much for me I just like the weight distribution of it. Other people like the CO2 tank out of the way. I have a few friends though who absolutely hate drop forwards, the reason for this is they like to use the CO2 tank as a stock. The drop forward eliminates this though. The one thing I didn't like about this gun was the barrel. In fact I found the barrel to be worse then the standard 8.5" barrel that comes with the basic gun. The coating they use on the inside is noticeably worse for some reason and this is what largely frustrated me with this gun. I later switched to a 16" Smart Parts barrel. With that being said the gun shoots fine it is just the barrel that isn't to good. Barrels are so expensive too that it increases the cost of a kit by so much. So if you don't care to much about the butterfly trigger or the drop forward I would highly encourage you to get the standard Tippmann 98 and spend the extra money buying a better barrel! One last thought. I have had this gun since 2006 and it still works the same as it did then. It possesses huge endurance and it is ultimately well worth your money. Just take good care and oil it when it needs it. If you are looking for further upgrades to purchase with this gun a barrel would be the first and the second I would recommend would be a stainless steel bolt (Tippmann 98 Custom Pro Red Aluminium Power Tube + Bolt). It makes a big difference swapping out the plastic bolt! |
