I own the Tippmann 98 Custom paintball marker and it's a great entry level marker. It is very reliable and it shoots stright and far and best of all it is totally upgradeable. You can purchase different barrels, stocks, sights, grips etc. It is a semi-automatic gune but you can upgrade it to be fully automatic. I have used this marker for years and would highly recommend it.

Great marker for the price. My son has the Tippmann A5; it's a really nice marker. But I only play every once and a while. So I didn't want to spend the money for An A5. This platinum-custom 98 was just the ticket. Fast, reliable just awesome. I added the cyclone feed to it and it's just as fast as the A5. I really like my custom 98 and small kids fear me.

Won't fine a better woods-ball marker at a better price but if it we're me I'd go with the A.C.T.(Anti-Chop Tech) version or even the A-5. This is going to be my backup marker after some heavy Mods.

Ok so i bought this gun and had some problems with the shipping, and then it arrived without a tank, but once i solved that i found that this gun is amazing. i would recommend getting a new barrel(i have an angel force 14" barrel)because the stock barrel is a piece of crap but You could probably get away with never cleaning this gun. seriously, i have gotten all sorts of crap in and out of this gun and its never chopped a ball on me. i had been meaning to upgrade, but i was still in love with it.

Pro's:

Accurate at very long ranges
Handle position makes for a natural feeling when you hold it

Cons:
Barrel
Eats up air pretty fast(i recommend Co2)
A bit heavy, but still manageable

I have been paintballing for years. Folks often refer to this as an entry level marker, but not true, it goes the distance especially for an experienced player who plays a slower more patient game as I prefer to do. It is very reliable, as I am often standing around waiting for my sons to make some fix or another on their electronic markers. Here is the secret to success with this marker; First, buy a good 14-16" after market barrel (remember the threads are different for the 98 custom). I use a CMI knockoff which cost $22. Second, use good paint. It is worth a few extra dollars. I never "chop" and I can take you out from across the field. Remember though, this marker is not going to be satisfactory for Speedball or short "spray and pray" field situations.

I rented the 98 custom for a paintball match and it didn't jam or chop any balls. Even with a gravity hopper. Accurate but after holding for 4 hours with a 48ci co2 tank it does get heavy. Great beginner gun.

This marker is tough as nails! It almost never misfires or chops paint. It's accurate. It has a great price. You can customize it ANY way you want... what else can I say?

I have three sons, and the four of us all have Tippmann 98 customs of varying age. Mine is 11 years old, and has been loaned out to every kid I can think of. We have collectively shot 100's of thousands of rounds through them and they still work perfectly. They are easy to clean and maintain, and replacing the o-rings is the only repairs they have required over the years. They shoot comparably to any high end marker. The paintball feilds in our area all use them as thier feild guns (that should say something about durabilty and quality)

This is a great gun. It shoots straight with the stock barrel and does well on air. It is very nice to be able to upgrade and customize so many things with this gun and it is an excellent price. If you are considering getting a cyclone feeding system though I would recommend just purchasing a Tippmann A-5 as it includes one already.

In addition, I have to add that this is a GREAT way to eliminate pesky amphibians. It is pretty quiet and with one well placed shot with a quality paintball you can effectively protect your property and eliminate toads and lizards :-)

I just received my Tippmann 98 custom Platinum Series Ultra Basic, also received the stock and red dot sight I ordered along with the gun. I was not expecting it to show up today I thought it would be here by tomorrow, but I woke up to it being at my door! The shipping was great, the package was undamaged. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GUN AND GOING THROUGH AMAZON TO PURCHASE THIS GUN!!! I am just waiting for my 16inch Lapco BigShot Assault barrel from Ultimate Paintball and my full order will be complete; should be here by tomorrow so very excited for that as well. But again very pleased with the quality, look, and performance of the Tippmann 98 Custom Platinum Series, and very happy I went through Amazon to purchase the paintball gun and accessories. If you are planning on ordering this gun I would recommend spending the extra cash to also get a RAP4 Collapsible Stock, Red Dot Sight, and either a 14inch-16inch barrel (Lapco bigshot barrels are very accurate, and I personally think the best barrels out there, I use to have one one my Tippmann A5 and all I can say is it was Amazing).
