Definitely a worthwhile upgrade,

Unlike many upgrades, the Rocket Cock requires no disassembly of your marker - pop off the rubber bolt cover, remove the rear bolts, and slap this baby on with the included new bolts.
The design keeps dirt out of the marker's internals, which is one of very few gripes I have with the 98 (the open bolt design makes it easy to oil but lets all sorts of stuff in there). Also, once you cock it, you return the handle back to the full forward position (or wait for it to happen when you fire), where it stays until you have to manually cock the gun again, so you don't have the handle protruding out the back. The only drawback I've had with this product is that if you have a stock on your marker that is not flush with the side (such as some of the CAR stocks that have a tightening bolt on their shaft) the Rocket Cock will either rub against it or get stuck. If you are playing with a flush stock or no stock, though, this will save you a lot of headaches caused by dirty internals.

A very useful and easy mod,

Look at the picture. That's all the parts. So for those of you who aren't technically inclined, you can still do this modification with no trouble.
Basically what the Rocket Cock does is cover that open slot in the back where your bolt is. Pop off the protective rubber cap on the bolt handle, remove the bolts already in the gun, slip the rocket cock over the hole, put in the new bolts, and you're done. This upgrade keeps out all the debris that would otherwise get in that slot, which will make marker maintenance MUCH easier. Also, once you pull the ring back to cock the gun, it returns to the forward position (the one you see in the picture), so outside nothing is moving. This lessens the chance of something getting caught, which is painful if that something happens to be attached to you. My one, very minor, complaint is that the Rocket Cock handle lies nearly flush to the body of the marker, which means it will rub against almost any stock you put on the 98 (because most of those stocks have a ring you need to tighten to secure the stock, and those rings tend to be a millimeter or two thicker than the 98's body). This can make the initial cock difficult or keep the Rocket Cock ever so slightly not flush to the surface. All in all though, the benefits far, far outweigh the drawbacks. The 98 is already a workhorse, but this simple mod makes it even more user-friendly and longer-lasting.

Rock out without your cocking pin out.,

Delivered on time and simple to instal the hardware. It keeps debris from entering the marker behind the bolt and also covers the bolt pin so that it will not get caught on anything. I was hoping it would be sealed airtight to the gun when installed but there are parts of the lip that water or debris could seep through but it is still better than nothing and if it really does concern you, you can find some window draft guard sealer and close it all off but I wont recommend it because I think that it needs an air gap there because the marker sucks in air there when the bolt goes forward and opens the void and then blows it back out when it returns the bolt. Preventing air movement by sealing it off totally could plausibly cause the gut to "choke". If you have fired the 98 with your right thumb too high against the left side of the gun due to firing form an odd position, your thumb probably got a good whak from the pin flying past it. This modification also prevents a mishap like that. 2 thumbs safely up.

One in a million shot. I was playing with my 98 when my gun got hit right on the bolt while it was in the forward position while firing. Paint got all inside my internals and it was a real mess to clean out. I got one of these so history won't be repeated.

I've found that this seal cock works great with keeping the dirt and random things that work thier way into the brech. It's easy to install and doesn't add any weight to the gun at all. I'd say its one of the few mods that really are worth getting for your Tippmann

This product was advertised as a Rocket Cocker 2 from an outside seller. When it arrived at my door, it ended up being an old style Rocket Cocker. These are bulky and required taking the marker apart to use. Rocket Cocker 2's just simply bolt on and are made of a material similar to Kevlar. Very light weight, and user friendly. When I tried to find out if it could be replaced, the seller wanted a re-stocking fee. I felt it was their responsibility for false advertising, but I've gotten no response. I did apply it to my marker, and it works very well, but buyer beware. Make sure your getting what is advertised, or get ahold of the seller directly, and ask questions.

Rocket Cock,
By Pros: Keeps random crap out of the inner workings of your marker, it's lightweight (you won't be able to tell the difference with it on). Cons: I had a little trouble with a screw being a bit short but a longer screw fixed it right up. The pull pin does stick right in the way of where my collapsible stock goes but does not hinder the firing of the marker, you just won't be able to put the stock in all the way (which isn't really a problem, unless your bag is low on space.)

Fits BT-4 with modifications,

Fits my Tippmann Custom 98 without modifications, but I actually prefer the more flush appearance of the original Rocket Cock.
This product allows you to use the cocking pin that comes with the marker. This makes it a little easier to fit on to my BT-4 (note that doing this modification will likely void the warranty). You do have to modify the rocket cock II a little with a Dremel to sand down the actual Rocket Cock II and to drill a hole into the top part of the grip on the marker to access the screw-hole on the aluminum body of the marker itself. Not an absolutely perfect fit, but pretty darn close. Certainly can't tell unless you look at the marker carefully. Functions very well, and protects the cock slot. Best way to cover the cock slot, at least until BT comes with its own version of the Rocket Cock. |
