Review

This guide is a must-have for all medical school applicants! With her insider s view, Jennifer Welch offers realistic advice that makes the dreaded application process more clear, and honest tips to helping candidates avoid often fatal flaws. I wish I had had this when I applied to medical school! --Jason L. Freedman, M.D., Pediatrics Resident, Columbia University Medical Center

This book provides a comprehensive and practical guide on how to navigate successfully the medical school application process. In addition to clarifying the many tangible requirements that are necessary to be competitive, Jennifer Welch gives the reader a window into the intangibles that significantly impact an admissions decision. An excellent read for both the savvy and the clueless medical school applicant. --Paula Jacobs, Senior Associate Director, Student and Career Development, College of Human Ecology, Cornell University

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it!, June 21, 2007
This review is from: 101 Tips on Getting into Medical School (Paperback)
This book is a comprehensive and very complete guide for anyone who aspires to enter medical school in the United States. The writer, Jennifer Welch, is refreshingly honest about what applicants should do to increase the likelihood of gaining admission, but she is also very realistic. I am a third-year medical student who gained admission to my 'first-choice' medical school as an average applicant - in part by listening to Ms. Welch. She understands better than most what the Admissions Committee looks for in a potential applicant. It behooves any serious medical school applicant to capitalize on her experience by reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only book in its field written by a med school admissions director, May 16, 2007
This review is from: 101 Tips on Getting into Medical School (Paperback)
SUNY Upstate Medical University Director of Admissions Jennifer Welch groups her tips into nine general categories, covering, in chronological order for the applicant: getting ready, beginning the application, getting letters of recommendation, writing the personal statement, presenting experiences, interviewing, waiting for the decision, reapplying (if necessary), and relaxing. She writes clearly, concisely, and conversationally.

She knows what she is talking about. She has dealt with thousands of cases and has seen literally every stupid mistake and brilliant coup an applicant can make. No self-help book on getting into medical school is more authoritative than this one.

If you want to go to med school, Welch's advice is worth taking seriously.
