5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Twist On Fairies
Does the world really need another book about fairies? Yes, if it's Ammi-Joan Paquette's charming The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies. Combining a backyard adventure with a fairy hunt, kids are encouraged to find the wonder in nature as they search for those ever-elusive fairies.

Especially delightful are Christa Unzner's winsome illustrations, seamlessly...

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs reworking
The idea of mixing nature photographs and art is pleasing to the eye. There are definitely some nice shots especially one of the chipmunk looking like he is smiling. Although there were some that weren't so great either.

There is a nice idea going here with the pictures but the words just don't fit the flow of the images. I wanted to feel more whimsical...

Especially delightful are Christa Unzner's winsome illustrations, seamlessly blending art and photography. Impish little sprites frolic in, amongst, and with flowers, spiderwebs, acorns, even chipmunks, teasing readers to imagine new fairy hideaways every time they step outdoors.

The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies got a double thumbs-up from my six-year old daughter, good stuff considering she's not particularly fairy-inclined...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Fairies - Lovely Book, April 27, 2009
By
This review is from: The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies (Hardcover)
The TipToe Guide to Tracking Fairies is a wonderful book to spark the imagination of any little adventurer. The story teaches the reader how to find the clues that fairies leave behind, while the illustrations - photographs with illustrated fairies - help children place the fantastic creatures into their own real world. The only problem is that your little one will have a hard time sitting still long enough to read it all the way through - they'll be eager to rush outside and look for fairies! Lovely, lovely book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fairies ARE Everywhere, January 8, 2010

Many picture books have the ability to ignite imagination, but it's a rare one that asks that the child set her imagination free outside in the backyard. THE TIPTOE GUIDE TO TRACKING FAIRIES will encourage even the most obstinate, unbelieving child to turn off the TV and video games and begin a journey to search out those sneaky fairies that are hiding everywhere. Ammi-Joan Paquette has a delightful way with words, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's go exploring...for fairies!, October 4, 2009
This review is from: The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies (Hardcover)
My preschooler and I love all things fairy-related, and we have a lot of books on the subject (Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies books are personal favorites). When we saw this title, we knew we wanted it for our collection. A creative blend of real photographs and artwork, "The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies" shows a group of children exploring nature, leaving little morsels for the fairy folk to find, but not finding any themselves. Of course, the fairies are there, hidden away in delightful locations such as dandelions, and in between the petals of tulips, etc.

This book is amazing - it encourages a natural curiosity to explore the hidden treasures in nature, and right after we finished reading this book, my daughter and I went on a little picnic/excursion in our backyard, and spent a languid afternoon looking for fairies (and found instead other gems in nature:)). Our next project - building fairy houses!

As a fan of fairies, I knew I had to have this one. Beautifully written and illustrated, this guide to fairies will be enjoyed by children and their grownups alike. It has the added benefit of getting your child outside as you search together for signs of the elusive fairies. Lovely book!

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect book for fairy-loving kids!, April 10, 2011
My little girls have fallen in love with this book. The idea of fairies hiding in the most usual places outside - inside flowers, under a waterfall, on tree branches - is already making our walks outside more interesting. Will we find any clues that fairies were there like we did in the book? So exciting!

We all love the fanciful language, and they love finding the pretty fairies hiding on every page. Can't wait to read more stories like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Easter Gift!, March 29, 2011
I heard about this adorable picture book a few months ago and jumped at the chance of sharing it with my daughters before its paperback release in a few weeks. THE TIPTOE GUIDE TO TRACKING FAIRIES by Ammi-Joan Paquette is filled with gorgeous illustrations, and the story is sweet and whimsical.

As a homeschooling family, nature study is very important to us and an integral part of our children's education. Now that it is warmer outside, birds are singing, and plants are blooming again, this story was the perfect catalyst for my daughters to go on their first outdoor exploration. We cuddled together, shared the story, and they took off to the backyard, hunting for their own fairies to discover!

While my thirty-year-old Mom's opinion is helpful, the praise that is most beneficial comes from the author's intended audience. Here is my children's honest opinions:

Cali, five years old: That story was awesome! When they found the fairies at the end, it was the best!

Jordan, six years old: I thought the story was great because it had fairies that are very girly. When the fairy found her slipper, it was my favorite part. I also liked it when they found the secret message. Then she turns to her sister and says, Let's go look for some clues! Let's go look for fairies!

Need I say more? This story would make a wonderful Easter gift for the children in your life. It is already available in hardcover and the paperback edition will hit the shelves April 15th.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful How To in Finding Those Elusive Fairies, December 24, 2011
By
Some books are just darn cute. They are so cute that adults enjoy reading them. If found a book that my daughter and I both enjoyed in Ammi-Joan Paquette's The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies.

This is a short book meant for children ages four and up. It guides the child through the process of looking for fairies in their own backyard. They can read where fairies could hide within the blooms of tulips or among the grass. A sweet book full of surprises.

What do you get with this book?
- Bright photographs - Not everything within this book is hand drawn. Actual photographs of where the children are tracking fairies are used.
- Mix of drawings and photographs - Within these photographs, the illustrator, Christa Uzner, draws fairies. She places them within flowers, around the blades of grass, and tucked around rocks.
- A literal guide - This is not a poem for the child to read or something that is meant to be cute and sing-songsey. It is a guide walking the child through the process of going into their own back yard or a local park to find the fairies that live there in secret.
- A short read - This would make a perfect bedtime story or a book to read as you hunt for fairies.

What you will not get with this book?
- This is not a poem. This is not meant to sound like a song or something they can memorize. It is a guide to finding those all allusive fairies.
- Pages and pages of pictures and words. This is just 32 pages with many colorful pictures that help the child feel like it is a real how-to guide to finding the mythical creatures.
- A boring time with your child. This is a perfect book for quality time with your young child.

I found this to be a delightful read as did my daughter. She was nine years old and found this to be a bit a young for but it was a fun discussion time between us on the possible existence of fairies.

Note: This book was provided to me by the publisher upon my request.
