Product Description

Carbon fiber is well-suited to the tough tasks assigned to cleaning rods. It combines the best features of stainless steel and coated cleaning rods, then adds valuable properties of its own. Stainless steel rods can scratch or wear barrels if they're used carelessly - though they won't pick up potentially damaging small abrasive particles. -InchCoated-Inch rods get part of the job done - they keep the stainless steel shaft from damaging your barrel's rifling, but the coating will pick up small abrasive particles, which means you're effectively running fine-grit sandpaper through your bore. Carbon fiber rods are the best of both: the carbon fiber can't scratch your bore like stainless steel, and they won't embed like coated rods. Plus, Carbon Fiber rods can be bent to an extreme degree and return to their original straightness.Rifle rods are threaded for 8-32 accessories, except 17 caliber rods which are threaded 5-40.

Make sure you get one that is the minimum length for your rifles. The 36" rod is much too long for the rifles I use it on. It makes it unweildy and flexes and bows way too much and is a general pain in the butt. A 30" rod would have been much better for me. Other than that it is a good product...

Tipton rods are great quality, however, I bought this to clean a .22 and .243. On the .22, it fits but is too snug for my liking. Prefer something that provides a bit more clearance between the barrel and rod.

5 stars for the .243
2 stars for the .22

Used on a .223 it works out well. The rod is long enough for typical AR. Bearings are smooth and twists with the rifling. Nice ergonomic handle. Would recommend!

I bought this for cleaning my AR-15 and it does the job perfectly. Does a good job of guiding my bore brush for scrubbing and for guiding patches. Tipton stuff is of excellent quality, highly recommended.

I have two of these rods. One for my .17 rifles and this one to cover everything bigger. The only possible drawback is that it's may be too short for cleaning a long barreled target rifle when using a long bore guide. It's plenty long though for cleaning a 26" barreled long action rifle without a long guide.

Only drawback is the size brushes and patch holder it will support. The threaded size is smaller than the normal and I've yet to find a commerical fit. I do cut the thread down in my shop and it works fine. Just an irritant when it could be the "normal" size.

While I have a lot of cleaning rods, I had never even thought of getting a Carbon fiber one. I ordered this for a friend, because he is all gung ho about his Sig 556 rifle. He won't even shoot it, because he doesn't have a carbon fiber rod yet. It was getting ridicilous. Two years, and not a shot through it. I ordered this for him, and he seems genuinly happy now.

It is a nice rod, I wouldn't say there is anyting wrong with it. I personally will just stick with what I already have. I thought that it was a little strange that there is a brass tip on the rod that is threaded for the jags, and such. To me, the advantage of the one piece rod, is that ther are no seams to catch on anything. This is a joint, about an inch and a half back from the tip. Now, perhaps you can't thread the carbon, but maybe you can mold the carbon over the end? I know that my steel and aluminum rods are seamless.

They also have all come with tips, and a bore guide. I guess Tipton has decided that it is better to have the user get every accessory separately, instead of including standard items.

All in all, if you need to have a carbon rod, this is okay...Just be aware, that you need the bore guide. At least the bore guide...and whatever else you want.

Oh yeah, all of my other rods have come in a plastic tube...this was in a heavy cardboard tube. I personally like to see which rod I am grabbing out of my sets.

This is the best cleaning rod you will ever buy. It is expensive for a cleaning rod, however, after having bunch of mix and match of several brands, this is the one that I always pick for cleaning. It is longer than your standard cleaning rods that you see at sporting goods store, but it will clean almost all long barrel rifles.

Update (9th Feb 2014)
Unfortunately, the cleaning rod broke from the brass tip in less than a year. I called the Battenfield Technologies (owners of Tipton brand) and they agreed to send me a replacement for free of charge. I will see how long the replacement will last. So, 5 stars for customer service and minus 2 stars for product.
