At least 4 stars,
By
This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
With so many readers into paranormal novels, I think this one should be a big hit. In a world of mysterious spells, humans that can change into birds, wizards, magic, and trolls, what pre-teen or YA could resist such a book? It is just the kind of book most kids like. Well-written and timely, it is at least, a 4 star read.

A quest to restore the light of life....,
By
This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
A dark magic, Three Kingdoms within the grasp of a mysterious peril and one young girl with the power to save them all....such is the tale spun within "Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor". Tirissa is the main character, henceforth the title, and begins as the sole exclusion to a darkness that has fallen upon the land. Adopted by the family with which she lives, she has never felt separated from them, until now. Though growing pains are felt in many relationships, the changes she sees happen within an instant. The life and love in their eyes disappears to be replaced with a dullness likened to the shadows that dance in the night. What has caused this strange affliction? What power can be used against it? It is these questions and more that begin Tirissa's quest to save her world from the stronghold placed upon it.
The author, simply known as Willow, allows readers the chance to partake in this magical story with well developed characters whom are both likeable and enchanting. Although intentioned for young adult readers, this fantasy world readily welcomes one and all ready to depart on a quest imagined by many, but experienced by few. Join in Tirissa's band of "merry" travelers. You never know what adventure may lie just beyond the turn of a page....happy reading!

A young adult's magical fantasy of Nulidor,
By
This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
The wind blew and the earth trembled, and Tirissa a young girl of 12 becomes the only one around with true life in her eyes. She's from the village of Oakenwood. She believes a bird, known as "the Beak", cast a spell on everyone. She knows she must find help for the village. Here is where her magical journey begins in this book titled "Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor".
Tirissa's first stop after leaving the village, leads her to being captured by none other than a troll - "Oglo", who becomes a very important friend to her throughout the story. She finds out she must travel to the palace and along the way and when she reaches the palace more than you can imagine will take place. So, what do a necklace, deadening stone, crystals, and wizards have in common? The author, Willow does a wonderful job with these fantasy characters and magical items keeping you entertained and interested in this story. This is a very good fantasy read for a young adult.

A light, easy midieval adventure,

This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
I found Tirissa to be an light, easy read and exactly what I was looking for after the last few books I've read. I really enjoyed the characters in this book especially the ogre. The book is full of adventure and obstacles for the characters.
In your basic good vs evil, Tirissa took me on a journey filled with danger and peril. A simple yet enjoyable read. I think it's a good start for any young reader looking to read a fantasy style book. It's easy enough for a younger person to understand without all the complications that a full blown adult fantasy novel can have, and yet full of fantasy fun.(received for review)

Fantasty brought to life... Willow hits the target!,

This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
I have really taken a liking to YA fantasy reads over this past year. I honestly did not know what I was going to get with this book. The cover reminds me of an older style book... it doesn't really follow the trends of today's covers that snap you to attention and cause you to pick up a book... yet something about it, something in the description, made me want to read it.
As I dove into a new fantasy world of wizards and trolls... and something about a necklace.... I found myself enjoying the pace that Willow had set for her readers. There were parts that seemed to drag on a bit for me, but I can imagine reading this to a young girl and having her hang on the words as Tirissa makes her way around the Three Kingdoms.

Tirissa And The Necklace Of Nulidor,
By Sandra Kirkland (High Point, North Carolina United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
Tirissa wakes up one morning, going about her day with her adopted family. But this day is not like any other. A spell is cast on her village, and everyone she knows is affected. They become dazed and unaware of their surroundings; victim of The Deadening. Tirissa runs to the house of the local herb lady and healer, and hears that a wizard may have put on this spell. It is similiar to the spell in the old stories of what happened to the town of Nulidor. First, The Deadening occured, and then a second spell that killed everyone there. The healer tells Tirissa that she is the only one who can save the town, as she is the only one unaffected.
Scared and alone, Tirissa starts out and journeys to the house of a more powerful healer. That woman gives her more information and a silver necklace that has come down through the ages. As Tirissa journeys, she meets a group of wood nymphs. They tell her the missing pieces of her background. She is the child of a wood nymph and her human lover. That explains why Tirissa is not affected by the spell, and why she has access to magic such as hiding inside trees and talking to stones and forces of nature. Tirissa picks up some allies on her trip. Oglo is a troll, hundreds of years old, that had fought against the forces of evil once before and lost. Now he is eager to go with Tirissa, to help her and to redeem himself. Along the way they get another member of their party, Storge. Storge is a n'er do well who finds himself pressed into service as a king's guard. He joins Tirissa and Oglo on their journey, reluctant at first to help but becoming a valued member of their group as time goes by. It is good that Tirissa finds friends along the way, because she also finds many enemies. There are the horrific Beaks; men who transform into huge birds that attack humans, stabbing them as they swoop down. There are Kings and Princes that want to stop Tirissa's mission, hoping to gain power through helping the evil wizard that created the spell. There is a hellhound named The Tracker, who tries his best to bring down Tirissa. Finally, there is the wizard himself, with all his power and weapons. Can Tirissa stop his evil spells before everyone is destroyed? Young readers will enjoy this rousing adventure. Tirissa is just twelve, and shows resourcefulness, loyalty, compassion and courage. The plot is exciting, and both heros and villians are imaginatively created. This book is recommended for children 9-12. It could easily be the first book in a series of Tirissa's adventures, and children will be eager to read of further tales.

What a nice book for YA readers!,

This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
This is such a sweet book for YA readers. The cover art is just beautiful-- I love the cover art, it caught my eye immediately.
This is a great book for readers in the 10-15 year age range. There's a little bit of violence, where they are attacked by bird-men, so I don't think it's a good choice for very young children. There's an evil wizard, trolls, a hellhound... lots of mythical creatures in the mix. The story is fun and interesting. I thought it was a really lovely read and so appropriate for tweens. I hope it becomes a series!

Tirissa is a young girl who has just had her entire world turned upside down. A spell has been cast upon everyone in her village except her. Frightened, she flees in search of some way to save her village. As if the spell is not enough, she is also plagued by an evil Wizard intent on destroying the world as she knows it. Along her magical journey she meets some unlikely friends who help her in her quest.
"Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor" is a very wonderfully written book with lots of character and adventure. This young adult fantasy book will have readers of any age feeling young again.

A Magical Land and Coming Into Your Own,
By
This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
Tirissa and the Necklace of Nilidor by Willow is a delightful book about a young woman's determination to save the family she cares about. Eventually we get to the point that she realizes that she is saving her community and eventually the whole country she lives in. The story is complete with magical creatures, wizards, witches, and spells. Throughout the story Trissa has to find the strength within her to keep going.
The very beginning of the book starts with suspense and danger. Along Trissa's travels the reader will follow her in the process of finding friends and making alliances. Trissa also learns how to use the talents within her. Sometimes she learns with the help of friends and sometimes she has to learn on her own. This is identical to the process we go through in our lives. In this manner the story is familiar and allows the reader to step into the character. Many other characters have good and bad human qualities and desires to keep the reader's interest engaged, Tirissa also experiences the dangers of trying to do what is right even when it seems hopeless. She experiences the loss of friends and the ability to go on to do what has become her duty. The reader experiences her growth during the process. The reader experiences the magic of another land as well as the drama and excitement of the story. The wonder of the goodness in people is such a relief and give the reader a break from the day to day world. The book also has a surprise towards the end which could have very well been the end of her search. I could not put the book down. The book will be enjoyed by adolescent readers and adult readers, or at least this adult reader!

A Magical Journey that will warm your heart,
By Jennifer S (Ball Ground, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tirissa and the Necklace of Nulidor (Paperback)
What a fun book to read! Magic, spells, enchanting journey and surprising friends. I thoroughly enjoyed joining Tirissa on her mystical journey. It was fun to escape into the world created by Willow, the author. Tirissa is a sweet young girl who takes on a magical journey along with the help of a newfound friend, a troll, to save her friends Will she be able to lift the spell? Will she complete the journey? This is the perfect story for a young teen or an even better bedtime story to read each night before bed to older children. The characters are well developed and surprising. Tirissa encounters the same feelings and dilemmas faced by many teens. She has the responsibility of an adult but is not far from a child herself. This is a perfect gift for a young girl but it will also appeal to children and adults. |
