The Tissot Story

For more than 150 years, Tissot has embodied the innovation and tradition of Swiss watch-making. Based in the Neuchâtel area of the Jura Mountains, in Le Locle, Switzerland, Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile created the watch making company Tissot in 1853. Whether in the technology of its movements, in the research for special materials or in the very functions of the watch itself, Tissot's engineers and watchmakers have developed pioneering timepieces over the years.

Some of Tissot's triumphs over the years include the the Idea 2001 (the world's first plastic watch) released in 1971, the Rock watch (which set the timepiece's movement in a stone case made from Swiss Alps granite) in 1985, and the Wood watch from 1988 (with a completely wooden case). Tissot uses the best movements (from ETA SA Manufacture Horlogère Suisse), the highest quality materials (316L steel, 18K gold, titanium) and scratch-proof glasses (sapphire crystal--at least 2500 Vickers).

The company has been involved with high profile sports events since 1974 when they sponsored a racing car in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, France. Since then Tissot's timepieces have been chosen as official timekeepers for world championships in cycling, motorcycling, fencing and ice hockey. And Tissot is currently the the official watch and timekeeper of NASCAR.

Tissot timepieces have been worn by a bevy of celebrities over the years--including Grace Kelly, Elvis Presley and Nelson Mandela--and James Stewart's character L.B. Jefferies wore a Tissot timepiece in Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window." Today the company is represented in a variety of sporting fields by English soccer star Michael Owen, IndyCar driver Danica Patrick, and MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden. Today, Tissot is a member of the Swatch Group, the world's largest watch producer and distributor.

I purchased this watch without being able to test it in a store. The watch's size and weight are perfect. On the negative, I thought I would use the other functions like stop watch (two), 2nd time zone, etc. much more. I leave the LCD on date setting as it is too difficult to switch functions (you have to use the single stem to change between functions which is not as easy as it seems). If I had another chance, I would just get the simpler version of this watch without the LCD screens.

This watch was bought as a replacement for an older (1998) multifunction Tissot that had suffered a severe impact. 10 years down the track I was dreading having to find a suitable replacement, only to find Tissot still produce a multifunction! This watch is a more dressy version of the old T690, which was closer to the T65.7.588.61 style, and has 50 m vs the older watch's 100 m water resistance. I think I am going to like it as much as my old watch.
In terms of Amazon's service - I ordered the watch on the 18th December and it was delivered on the 23rd. Pretty good since I live in New Zealand. Delivery had (rather conservatively, I should say) been estimated as 19th Jan. so I was VERY impressed to receive this watch for Christmas. Thank you.

reat watch although selecting the different functions is a little quirky - you have to turn the crown quickly.
Service from Perfect Timing was Perfect and their warranty is valid. Residing in Australian and buying from a US retailer has its risks and the retailer warranty / support is an important issue. Not being able to find the instructions or to get the watch to work when it arrived did not make me happy. Perfect timing responded immediately and respectively helping me to find the instructions and to find how to set the various functions of the watch. In my inital unhappiness they offered to pay for the return of the watch to the US and to refund me. This was not my desired result so they helped me to sort out my problem. Excellent service from a perfect retailer. Buy from them if you can.
