Awesome locking pliers,

This is my first set of vise grips, and they are a great set. They have a sturdy construction, and they grip very tightly. I only needed 1 locking plier, but I decided that the price of this set is a good value since you get 5.

These may not have quite the same snot as a set of Irwin Vise Grips, but they are NOTHING like the junk that typically comes in from China - you know which ones I mean! These pliers have good jaws, lots of grab, and the locking mechanism stays locked. They're a terrific deal at $20-$25 for the set. Of course, with the covered grips, you won't be whacking these with a hammer, so if that's what you're planning, get the Irwin's. Otherwise, as a 'hand' tool, these do a great job. I just used them to remove some uncooperative caliper bolts, and since they were already dirty, I used them to remove some rusted tie rod sleeves and stabilizer links.

Soft grip handles are a plus. Good quality comparable/on par with others maybe better.@ $6 a plier not bad at all. Made in China no surprise here.

Overpowering odor of gasoline from product. Returned to amazon for refund. Don't buy unless you are looking for a gasoline high.

If your looking for an inexpensive set of locking pliers for the price bracket these are good.5 in one set give you options when your approaching a situation. Yet, if I had more heavy use I would invest in ones which had better grips. For handy or home use there good, though.

I bought this set and a 'Vise Grip' brand set to compare them, darned if I'm not so sure I don't like these better! Time will tell --I'm rather hard on these sort of tools (machining steel and welding, etc.) I almost consider them a 'consumable' item (although I want the consumption to take as long as possible!). So far I've found these to be a real value for the money. I'll report more as they get a bit more use, but I'm not at all unhappy with them --I'll no doubt buy more of these (unless some bad issue comes up --I don't count my abuse of this type tool to be a 'bad issue' with the tool, it has to be a material or design problem that would impact a more 'normal' user).

Offensive Odor From Plastic Grips,
By Fred Anonymous Smith (Central Europe) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Titan 18453 5-Piece Locking Plier Set (Tools & Home Improvement)
While the Titan 18453 5-Piece Locking Plier Set offers a good variety of adequately-built tools (adjusting screws are a bit rough), the plastic grips reek of some type of petroleum-based chemical (gasoline or similar) evidently used in the manufacturing process. That odor soon spreads in a room or accumulates to truly nauseating levels inside a tool chest drawer. Household and shop cleaners did little to reduce the odor. Same with airing outside for several windy days. The entire unused set is now in a sealed plastic bag awaiting some form of final disposition. Return is unlikely since the original packaging was trashed (don't make that mistake).
