CHANGED MY LIFE!!!,
By
This review is from: titan
I use two of these (single 3/4" line split into both units, then back to single 3/4" line out) as I live in the northeast and have a family of 8. With all three showers (low flow heads), the clothes washer, dishwasher, and the kitchen sink (can't forget the kitchen sink!) going, I had hot water. The units are set to just below medium. My electric use dropped 30% from the 40gal electric unit I had that only gave us about 10 minutes of hot water and we couldn't use multiple showers at the same time. I have had these units since 7/06. I did not have to adjust the temp during the winter. I am very satisfied.

Works Great .....From Practical Experience,

This review is from: titan
I have been using Titan tankless water heaters in my rental properties in North Florida, and just installed one in my home. In the rental units, they are over 5 years old and still going strong. I tried a Bosch-TempStar unit from Lowes that cost $450.00 + tax, and it was a total loss after one year. The hard water in FL destroyed it and if I shipped it back to the manufacturer at my expense, they *might* have shipped me another one. That is useless to me, as the Bosch units are obviously not made for hard water applications. I replaced it with a Titan two years ago...no problems. The reviews citing inconsistent temperatures are probably due to improper electrical service to the unit. If they are installed with a heavy enough wire gauge running to your fuse box, they work as advertised. If the electrician did not run a new heavier gauge wire appropriate to the particular amperage of the unit, then the unit will work, but will present symptoms like one reviewer described. I have begun installing an inexpensive ($30) sediment filter inline in front of the Titan, and believe for hard water applications this will significantly extend the life of the unit. In Florida the N-120 will power two concurrent and endless hot showers (with 1.5 gpm shower heads) and water at the kitchen sink will be warm, and that is with the unit turned down to 3/4 power. So for a 3/2 house in warm climates, the N-120 is all you need. My experience with plumbers and electricians is that most of them don't have a clue about properly installing these units, which is simple if you follow the manufacturers directions. They will tell you they do, but when onsite are guessing. Therefore, I HIGHLY recommend Titan units, but in my experience you must do your homework and tell your contractor what you want, which for an N-120 is: 1) a 60 amp breaker in your fuse box 2) a run of wire from the unit to the fuse box that is heavy enough gauge to support the spec of the unit (the existing wire for a typical old style water heater is NOT heavy enough) 3) wall mount the unit vertically anywhere indoors (attic and garage OK) and put any kind of typical home use sediment filter in front of it. Do these things and you'll generally reduce your entire electric bill by 30% immediately. All these steps are exactly what Titan recommends on their website and in their literature. You'll love these things, if you get it installed properly, that is! The price is almost unbelievably low, and you are buying American. No I don't work for Titan, but maybe I should! Good luck!

Excellent, economical tankless water heater,

I bought the Titan SCR2 last year on eBay, from a reputible seller, for our small cottage and have no regrets. For our needs, this unit was so economical that I'm pretty sure the money we saved on our electric bill has just about paid for the unit in one year. Our cottage includes a kitchen, bathroom and laundry room and we never run out of hot water. Additionally, after having the electrician install the electric service needed for the unit I was able to install (the plumbing part of it) myself with the detailed instructions that are included. I can't say enough about this water heater. Also, the warrenty is great as the company that manufatures the unit completely stands by their product. Because I bought it on eBay, I also contacted the manufacturer directly in Florida and they explained to me that if the unit quits working and it's still under warrenty they will repair /replace it at no cost and if by chance the warrenty expires and then the unit quits working, you just send the unit to them along with a check for $50 and they will repair/replace it and send it back to you. You really can't beat that, considering a plumber (who probably wouldn't be able to fix it anyway) would cost a heck of a lot more than $50. So I highly recommend this water heater...I am also going to purchase another unit for our home. Now keep in mind, if you have a large house or there are more than 2 of you in your household, this might not be the unit for you, you might want to upgrade to the next model because this unit isn't going to perform as well if you are running a dishwash or doing dishes and your child is taking a shower while another person is running hot water in another bathroom. Oh and we live in NY state near Buffalo, so we have pretty cold winters and the water heater still works great.

Bought 2 both lasted 3 years,

Bought two of these for a 4900 sq ft house. Split the house, one for master bath and other bed rooms, other for kitchen and utility area. They worked well but only lasted about 3 years. Forget trying to get service from the factory, it is a joke. Located in Miami, if someone does answer the phone, you better speak Spanish. Building a new home now but i think I will go with a more reputable brand at a higher cost.

Titan tankless water heater "beware",
This review is from: titan
I purchased my first Titan about three years ago, hooked it up and turned the power on. Smoke came out of it. I called "Niagara" the maker of the Titan. Was very tedious, hard to find an English speaking person. After several calls I spoke with a technician who told me to send it back. The new one I recieved worked, but the temperature fluctuated. So I hooked it up to feed a small 10 gallon water heater. This smoothed out the temperature changes but defeats the purpose of tankless. But I had endless hot water that didn't fluctuate, and I wasn't storing 40 gallons of hot water.Yesterday the unit stopped making hot water, all the lights are on but no hot water. Reading some other reviews it seems that's the life span of this model. I wouldn't suggest buying the Titan. The company is hard to deal with, hard to reach, defensive, and seems like it's somebody's garage buisness. But the trick of hooking the unit up to a small tank, seems to work well and should work for all tankless water heaters to smooth out the temperature.

you never know until you have a problem,

Imagine our dismay when the Titan stopped working, shortly after the 1 year warranty expired. We called customer support, left a message, they asked us to call tech support where we left another message. The live help was not available and we had no hot water with a new baby in the house. I located the website and found replacement parts but didn't know which one to get.My husband purchased a voltmeter - learned how to use it, and found that everything had power - it just wasn't working. Turns out that there is a pinhole in the black label that can be used to press the reset button. You have to press hard enough to hear an audible click. We had the cover off, so it was easy to press - and the cover comes off with 2 screws. Living in Florida with all our power surges, I'm surprised that this is the first time it happened, but I'm glad we were past our warranty or we would have just returned it and never known better. Shortly after we fixed it, Dennis called from Tech support. I was happy to know that the fix was so easy, I was happy to get a callback within the day, and I'm still very happy with a tankless hot water heater that can simultaneously power the dishwasher and a hot shower.

Titan - Almost burned down my house - Refurbished units don't work,
This review is from: titan
Hi,I live in Miami and bought a Titan and for 3 years it worked fine. Then one day it tripped the breaker, so I reset the breaker. An hour later while my wife was taking a shower, I smelled some foul odor which turned out to be the unit burning the paint on the wall under it. Since I live in Miami, I took the unit to Titan, and for $50, they gave me a different refurbished unit as they could not fix mine as the internal components had melted together. I took the refurbished unit and had someone install it and it worked for a week then stopped working. I took it back and they said it had an internal breaker which needed to be reset. I brought it home again, had someone reinstall it. The breaker then proceeded to trip 3-4 times a day and I could only get barely warm water in my shower, then it stopped working all together. I went back to Titan and they showed me that the unit worked fine and that it must be that it had been installed wrong. I told them I wanted a different refurbished unit and they gave me an older model. I had their recommended installers put it in which cost $150 - twice as much as the other person which I still thought was too much and they did nothing different. I had hot water for 2 days when this unit stopped working properly. So tomorrow, I start round 4 with this company, having spent over $400 on what should have been a simple job of replacing a burned out unit. Also, they never returned my phone calls and I agree the place feels like a garage of people with bad attitudes. By the number of people queued up in the place each with their own horror stories, I would say look for another solution.

Quick hot water,
By EM (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: titan
I recently installed this to replace my 40 gallon water heater that started leaking. The installation was relatively easy although it does require a 60amp circuit breaker (standard water heater used 30amp) and compatible wiring. In my case the circuit breaker is in the same closet as the water heater. It seems that having a sediment filter before the heater is essential from the research I did online, but they are only about $30 and the filters are $10 for two so it is worth it to protect the water heater. Once the water heater was installed I made sure to run the water through it for a few minutes before turning it on (from manufacturers advice). Once on, the hot water was quicker to get to even the furthest shower than my previous water heater. There seems to be plenty of hot water to at least run two showers simultaneously. You can also see that the heating unit shuts of as soon as water is turned off at the shower or faucet. The moment the faucet or shower is turned back on you see the water heater kick in (LEDs on unit show this). I have no long term results to report since I just installed it, but so far it works great. Furthermore it is built in Miami, FL. Just as background this unit is installed in a 1700 square foot townhouse with 2.5 bathrooms and a laundry room. Seems to be powerful enough for this application, but keep in mind that I live in Florida and the incoming water temperature is over 70F. ******Update at the end of the year****** The unit is still going strong. The only issue we have is that if both showers are being used at the same time both people can feel the affects of the other changing the temperature of their shower. In other words if person A decides to lower their shower temperature, person B gets hotter water. That is still better than the old tank unit we had where both people would run out of hot water midshower.

Outstanding product!! Endless Hot Water,
This review is from: titan
Provides very hot water for your entire home. Replaces your tank model water heater and saves you a lot of money on your electric bill (up to 60 percent). No venting, no danger as this is electric (gas models are dangerous!). The water is cleaner as tank models contain rust, bacteria and sediment in the bottom. Never run out of hot water, you can shower for 3 hours if you want with the same hot water!!

Titan Tankless Complaint - Titan Tankless Junk,
By
This review is from: titan
The Titan is a great deal when you first buy it but it gets expensive later on because they only last about 2 years. The fantastic 10 Year Warranty only covers the parts that hold water. It's the electrical parts that go out (only covered for one year). By searching the internet, I discovered that I am not the only one that had theirs explode. Yes, my titan water heater exploded and did not trip the breaker. It was shooting flames, sparks and smoke out of it's vents inside the closet where it was located. Luckily I was there to see it happen and put out the fire before I lost my home. After owning it for 2 years and almost losing my home over it, I got to remove it in the middle of the winter and go without hot water for a week while I sent it in with $53.00 to have it repaired. Obviously, they must cost them about $10.00 to produce. So yeah, if you want a titan, go for it but do not install it near anything that is flammable (like your house) and be prepared to pay $53.00 every two years for a new one.
