Sail on the Titanic and Change History!,

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Titanic: Adventure out of Time (Video Game)
This game is so intriguing and so realistic I found myself rushing to my computer after work to play it. In this game, you're free to tour the famous ship: the gymnasium, wireless room, smoking room, cabins, Turkish bath, even the engine, turbine, and boiler rooms and the top of the last smoke stack! You get to meet all sorts of characters, from social debutantes to a Serbian revolutionist. Listen to what they say. Each character gives you clues that will help you solve the game. In solving the game, you will perform tasks like sending a wireless, developing negatives, and decoding messages. It is a game that requires strategy, observation, and thought. Try out your ideas-they may work. My advice is to save this game often as you're playing and several times at various stages so you can return to a spot when you think you've figured something out. This game is not difficult, but does take time and thought. Don't give up, it's worth it in the end. As a former history major, I appreciate the period items you find on the ship (including a wax-cylinder gramophone which was a bit out of date even for the Titanic) and the lessons you get in the events that led to the First World War. You won't be able to save the Titanic, but you might be able to change history by altering the past. My only qualm is that the game freezes up A LOT which is very frustrating when you are getting into the storyline. Again, I can't stress enough the need to save where you're at in the game OFTEN. I also recommend the book "Titanic Adventure Out of Time Hints and Solutions" not just to solve the game (you may be able to solve it without it) but as an interesting supplement to the historical and scientific themes of the game. The music and graphics are excellent. You can really lose yourself in this game. Even after solving it, I find myself wanting to play it again and again.

This is a GREAT game. The puzzles are really cool (though a few are a little but unlikely and obscure, but still). This may sound a little strange, but I think what really helps "make" the game is the soundtrack. The music for this game is PERFECT. It's so haunting and mysterious. You just know that there are great mysteries to be unveiled (alright, that sounded really cheesy). Seriously though, this is awesome. It's also cool how the game can have a lot of different outcomes depending on what you accomplish and how you do it.
A great adventure game, especially for those interested in the Titanic disaster.

The other reviews covered the plot of the game very well, so I will not repeat what was already said.
I got this game back in 1998 when I was still living in Russia. With the help of subtitles (that are an option for the game) and a dictionary, my sister, her friends and I spent every evening for 6 months trying to complete the game. I did not have a cheat guide that I could refer to in order to get past the points where I got stuck, so I just had to keep on playing. I loved the 1st person point of view, all the puzzles, ability to interact with so many characters and do such things as fencing, fist-fighting, sending telegrams, even trying to sail the ship! There are three alternate endings, only one of them is a happy one. So, basically, you can finish the game but not accomplish your mission. Even after I was done with the game I had a feeling that I could've prevented the ship from sinking - it seems that the game gives you everything you would need except for the chance to steer the ship off of the dangerous route right before the catastrophe. I re-play this game every couple of years and every time I still get stuck at a point that I cannot remember the solutions for. If you like non-action adventure games, give a try to Titanic - it will make your brain sizzle.
