because the 3D version is two 1920x1080 images. one for each eye. twicethe data. now your current 3DTV makes a half-sbs for you to see it, but someday soon, TV's will have 3840x1080 resolution or better in which case bluray players at that point will decode it in full sbs. but thats why dude. plus the bitrate on the 3D is higher, about 40Mbps vs. 25Mbps onthe bluray
