The best piano book based on a movie soundtrack,
By Bull Durham (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Titanic (Pvg) (Sheet music)
The pieces in this book are each some of the best movie music available for the piano. Each piece is masterfully arranged as a piano solo. The book itself contains seven piano pieces from the "Titanic" soundtrack plus the "My Heart Will Go On" song. The contents are as follows: Never An Absolution * Southampton * Rose * "Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch" * "Hard to Starboard" * Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave * Hymn to the Sea * My Heart Will Go On (Love Theme from "Titanic"). My personal favorite is "Rose." It is an arrangement for the piano based on the theme song. It is one of the most beautiful piano pieces I have played on the piano, and it is perfect for the beginning to intermediate player. "Never an Absolution" and "Hymn to the Sea" are also very nice on the piano. I liked all the other pieces from the soundtrack. Some of them are definitely for intermediate level players, such as "Take Her to Sea, Mr. Murdoch" and "Hard to Starboard." The "My Heart Will Go On" song is the one selection that is for piano/vocal/guitar. It does not sound as well on the piano compared to the other pieces, especially "Rose." But, I'm sure its inclusion will be a plus especially for those who like the song. I personally liked the other songs which were specifically geared for the piano. They simply could not have been arranged better. I wish other movie soundtracks would release piano books of this caliber. I give this book my highest recommendation.

Easy to play, Just like the original music.,

This review is from: Titanic (Essential Shows Film TV Folios) (Paperback)
This Book is great for intermediate piano players. It's music is very, very similar to the original music composed by James Horner. If you liked the music from James Cameron's "Titanic" and play the piano, I would strongly recommend this book.

beautiful, but a little too easy for me,
This review is from: Titanic (Essential Shows Film TV Folios) (Paperback)
This book is full of beautiful pieces, but unfortunately they are a little easy for me.
I play at an medium-hard/intermediate level, and have taken piano lessons for nine years. The music is still beautiful, and fun to play through. It sounds almost exactly like the soundtrack, which is why i still play through it. I love the soundtrack, so this piano book is alot of fun for me.

A certain theme is very pretty, but the rest of it is dull.,

I used this as a sightreading book, and I think it served me pretty well.
There's a certain theme which is very pretty. We'll call it `A'. Several of the songs are variations on this theme A: "Never an Absolution," "Rose," "Unwilling to Stay, Unwilling to Leave," and "Hymn to the Sea." Then there is the famous song "My Heart Will Go On," which is ok. The song "Rose" also has this "My Heart Will Go On" theme. The rest of the songs weren't fun to play as there's no melody really or no compelling melody: "Southhampton," "Take her to the Sea, Mr. Murdoch," and "Hard to Starboard." |
