4.0 out of 5 stars pictures galore
The most pictured from the Titanic and the events surrounding its demise. If you aren't into reading detailed accounts and love pictures then this book is perfect for you. Each page is filled with numerous pictures and a brief description of the people and events involved and how it plays into the whole story. Two thumbs way up. One of my favorites.

I was looking forward to this book since I enjoyed Triumph and Tragedy and because the title and the advance write-up emphasized a Titanic timeline of events. I was looking forward to this book since I enjoyed Triumph and Tragedy and because the title and the advance write-up emphasized a Titanic timeline of events. But I was surprised by what some of the timeline contained. For instance, it has the first smokestack falling over at 2:05, followed by Lightoller carefully lowering collapsible D from the boat deck. How can this be when everyone knows Lightoller's testimony and his later memoirs mention that he had been in the water for a while when the smokestack fell over and just missed striking him? This seems sloppy, especially since the emphasis of this book is the timeline itself. In another case, the exact same Bruce Ismay photograph was used on page 64 and 116. And a lot of the photographs seem to be repeats of Triumph and Tragedy.

On a positive note, I enjoyed the 8 color pages insert in the middle of the book (the balance is black and white), and thought the events following the disaster through today made for fresh reading (although simple exhibits of Titanic artifacts are repeatedly listed in the timeline as if they are signficant "events.")

This book has been listed on the Amazon page for four months now as a 625 page book when in fact, it is a 248 page book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Another Titanic Book, May 23, 1999

Charles Haas and Jack Eaton are very capable maritime writers. But what they have given us is a rehash of their book, " Triumph and Tragedy ". There are some wonderful new pictures in this book, but their chronology is a bit off. In the times where new info is being sought, this book falls short of that. Still, it is a welcome edition to your library.

Very rare that authors can keep a story fresh. But somehow Charles Haas and Jack Eaton manage to turn up new exciting finds in the story of the Titanic. Buy this book!
