Book Description

A secret. A key. Much was buried when the Titanic went down, but now it’s time for resurrection.

April 1912 - Olive Stanford boarded the Titanic determined to protect all she held dear. Her secret will go with her to the grave—but how can she face the afterlife carrying the burden of her actions?

April 2012 - Portland real estate agent, Ember Keaton-Jones, distrusts men, with good reason. Ever since her great-great-grandfather, Thomas, deserted the family after the fateful sinking of the Titanic, every Keaton male has disappointed. Ember is on the brink of a huge sale when a stranger shows up with a key to a century-old secret challenging everything she believes. She meets forward-thinking Jeff Dawson who is working in the family’s musty antique shop and finds an unexpected ally in unlocking the mystery of her past. But can they undo the legacy of Thomas Keaton's betrayal?

Carefully researched, this engaging tale includes true stories of the Titanic embedded in historical fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Doesn't Sink April 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've never watched the movie Titantic, never seen Kate and Leo skim the waters except in commercials. So I was a bit skeptical of a book written on the subject. Wow. I am glad I read Titantic: Legacy of Betrayal. The authors took an overworked subject and wrote it in a fresh, captivating way. The added dash of mystery flavored the good writing and kept me reading. (I'd call it a page-turner, but it was an electronic copy!) Don't miss this new perspective of an old story. You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars So much more than another Titanic story! April 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm just going to cut/paste the note I sent to the authors -- my note says it all!

Kathleen and Paula -- I'd like for you to feel my pain today on how your book, Titanic: Legacy of Betrayal, has put me WAY behind my intended schedule for the week! Shame on you two for being fab writers! You see, my only son is getting married this coming Saturday in Dallas, so I took the week off from work in order to calmly prepare before leaving on Wednesday morning (I live south of Houston.)

Well, I read about your book on my friend's group page (Janice Thompson) and so I downloaded it last week. Though I knew I had a lot on my to-do list, I started reading it yesterday after church, into the evening, into the night, and fell asleep with my Kindle still on at 2:00 a.m.

After a good charge this morning, I decided to read for just a little bit around noon. I figured I deserved a break from wardrobe planning and packing and stressing--and had no desire to clean house. So -- at noon I picked up where I left off.

GIRLFRIENDS!!!!! It is now 6:04 p.m.!!!!

I finished the book, but my house is a disaster, I'm not packed, had to move my mani/pedi to tomorrow and have laundry still to do!!!! Okay -- I did stop long enough to finalize the mother-son dance song, but other than that, I've been putty in your hands!!!! OH MY! What a well-written page turner! Excellent story, excellent way to tell the story, and excellent ability to hold the reader's attention. I got so into it this late afternoon, I fixed a pot of tea and drank it right along with Olive!

GREAT job -- enjoyed your work and enjoyed the fantasy of escape. Now, however, I'm looking for a Xanax vending machine because my anxiety level is over the top as I look at all I didn't get done!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This story caught me and wouldn't let me go! April 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this story! It captured my attention and I just couldn't put it down. This is saying something because I often start books and don't finish them, unless they really interest me. Titanic: Legacy of Betrayal proved to be a story I wanted to see through. The mystery, humor and of course romance combined to make it a GREAT READ! I highly recommend this book!

A great story on Titanic. They never write enough fiction about at least to my idea. Please keep writing!
I've often wondered about how the survivors feel about living while so many lost their lives. Thank you for writing a wonderful novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing new Titanic fiction! August 29, 2012
Format:Paperback
In April 2012, Ember Keaton-Jones's life is interrupted by the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking. She is a real estate agent in Portland, with the climax of success just on the horizon. Suddenly, a family mystery concerning the Titanic breezes in. She has the choice to leave her sublime life behind to take an offhand chance at the fortune that the secret from the Titanic might be able to give her, or simply discard and ignore this untrodden revelation which is a century old. {I was immediately engaged in the basic plot of this book, if you can imagine.}

In addition to the modern events taking place in Ember's life, the story is also revealed from the point of view of Olive Stanford, a (fictional) First Class passenger aboard the Titanic. She took a riveting secret with her to the grave, which affected not just her own self, but also a family she didn't even know. Olive did leave one pathway open for someone to find out her personal story---specifically about the impulsive decision that she made in the middle of the ocean. A decision that would ultimately define at least 100 years of discord.

The writing style intrigues me. Every word, whether of dialogue or describing a scene, means something. The history embedded into the story is wholly accurate and well-researched. I don't think there is any plot spoiler here, in saying that the Titanic's story is told in full detail---and I felt that I should mention that the part chronicling the actual sinking is written considerably well. It turned out to be my favorite part of the book, even if I've read about that one pivotal moment from so many other tellings.

"Titanic: Legacy of Betrayal" is written and recommended for adults. There is a bit of romance intertwined into the plot.

I am still one of those readers/writers who would rather read a book I can hold in my hands! This is only the third book on Kindle I have finished, but I couldn't help myself! I couldn't wait to find out the story inside the story, so let me begin there.

The prologue of the story takes place in 1925 in the point of view of one of the wealthy survivors of the sinking of the Titanic which happened 100 years ago this year. We meet Olive Stanford who speaks of a secret she must share before she dies.

Then the modern-day story opens in the present with Ember Keaton-Jones receiving a phone call from a lawyer who tells her she must open a safety deposit box on Friday, April 13, 2012, on the centennial anniversary of the Titanic's sinking. Ember has to forego an important career-building real estate deal that day to open the box at a specific time or the contents of the box will be given to a museum as per the will. She can't give up the contents of the box--it may contain money or jewels or a secret that could embarrass her and her family name!

Next we meet Jeff Dawson, a young man who has lost his job and is living in his sister's basement and helping his dad at his antique shop until he can find another job. He and Amber meet when she comes into the shop to find a way to listen to the secret from the past contained in the safety deposit box in hopes they will reveal the family secret--the secret of her great-grandfather who was listed as a survivor of the Titanic only to never be heard from again. Was this the start of the family curse of all the women being deserted by the men of the family?
