This is a great pop up book. Our son who is Titanic obsessed and has many many books on the subject absolutely loved this book with the detail and perspective that it has. A unique find!

The back of the cover of TITANIC: DISASTER AT SEA proclaims, "On April 14, 1912, the largest and finest ocean liner of its time struck an iceberg and sank to the icy depths of the Atlantic. Now, 100 years later, follow the Titanic's history from blueprint to ocean dream, and discover what led to the ship's tragic end." Geared towards children the book follows the Titanic from its pre-construction until the night it sank; it's basically a short overview about the ship and its sinking. The book is filled with pictures, graphs, and illustrations to support and expound the written material. The last part of the book ends with a discussion of the inquiry following the sinking of the ship. There's also a column dedicated to Robert Ballard's discovery of the Titanic wreckage in 1985.

The book has two drawbacks. First, it's incredibly short. There are only 31 pages and that includes the title page. With all the illustrations, photographs, diagrams, etc. there really isn't much material here. If a child had never heard about the Titanic before, they would probably be amazed by the book. However, for someone who already knows about the ship and its sinking, TITANIC: DISASTER AT SEA doesn't really provide any new information.

The other drawback of the book is that it doesn't deal with any of the new evidence about the ships sinking. For example, other than the small column about Ballard's discovery, the book makes no mention about the ship splitting in two. The book also avoids all speculation of exactly how the ship sank.

TITANIC: DISASTER AT SEA makes a good book to introduce younger readers to the Titanic. However, for those who are already familiar with the disaster, there isn't anything new here.

I am extremely dissapointed with this book at amazon.com
Titanic
This was said to be a pop up book, it is definetly NOT a pop up book. I find this book a waste of money, I would have never bought the book had I of known it was not a pop up. I also paid extra to have this shipped in time for my godson's birthday. A complete waste of money, I will never use amazon again. Also I bought this from amazon.com but they would not let me verify this as an amazon product

As I grow older (61), it takes something like this delightful pop-up book to recall the wonders of child-hood for my child with-in. This is a perfect companion for a cold winter night's exercise of ones imagination and imaginative powers. I put the cats in another room, brew a hot chocolate (carefully put to the side) and open with book with wonder and awe.

The book is nice, no different than any other, however. I bought this specifically for the pop-up feature which the one I received did not have.
Extremely disappointed.

Upon receiving my order today, I was so excited to open this book to see how much my son was going to love it. He will still love it - it is a GREAT book - but after opening it up, there are some pockets on the inside that hold extra items (that are by the way really neat). The pockets however are already coming loose from the back of the book. I think I can fix it with glue or double sided tape, but a little disappointed that it was already falling apart. My 6 year old son with absolutely love this book though!
