Pleasantly low key but WAY too short,

Nice low key game for winding down- especially interesting for anyone who is fond of Titanic material. The "puzzles" are not challenging like other games that leave you wanting to throw the system out the window. Once you get past the annoying first bird "puzzle" it's smooth sailing. Interesting story line that allows you to choose how to respond which elicits different responses from other characters in the game. I may play it again as an antagonist just to see if there is a different outcome. The music score is poor in my opinion and whoever put together the sound on this game did a poor job. When your character speaks, you cannot hear her unless you quickly turn the volume WAY up. The game is also WAY too short and can be completed in a matter of hours. Not for hard core gamers or those seeking a challenge like Professor Layton (one of my personal favorites!). Nice choice for casual gamers or Titanic fans looking for a short but simple, non brain-draining escape from reality.

Hidden Mysteries: Titanic is a titanic disappointment. As a DS player and Titanic buff who couldn't get enough of that computer game, "Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time," I looked forward to this release as soon as I heard about it on my Amazon recommendations page. The puzzles are either too easy or very frustrating and, as the other reviewers have pointed out, it is too short. I'll break down the different characteristics of the game:Graphics and Music: Graphically, the game is good as it shows the different rooms of the Titanic (including the Turkish bath, gymnasium, and the Cafe Parisien, etc.) and has realistic details. You cannot move around in the rooms, though. It is just one stationary image and you click on different parts of the room but you do not actually move around. The characters do not change expression as they converse. They are just stationary images, too. The music is surprisingly terrible. It is so repetitive I usually turned it all the way down as I got sick of hearing it. As another reviewer noted, in the few transitional movie scenes where there is a vocal narrator, you can barely hear her speak. I had to put my ear to the speaker which meant I couldn't enjoy the movie. There is an option to adjust the sound and music, so it is probably a good idea to set the music much lower, but why is that? Characters and Storyline: The programmers put some thought into the characters. They even have background stories in the booklet. You play Margaret Ashley, a young peasant woman who has just married a wealthy, British businessman. She is tough, wisecracking, and spunky, although her joking attitude as the Titanic is sinking is a little much. The only other cool characters are a fortune-teller who can't tell fortunes and a sarcastic, superstitious curator named Odette. Margaret's husband is a jerk. At no point is he nice or pleasant to his new wife. The valet Montague is stuffy and humorless and Margaret's mother is a stuck-up busybody. The Titanic hits the iceberg pretty quickly, so the story is basically finding things and solving puzzles that help you get your character and her family off the ship, although you may not care if they're saved or not. Game Play and Puzzles: The game play consists of either finding ten of a certain item or figuring our how things found in one room will help you solve a problem in another room. Some of the puzzles are clever while others I found very frustrating. In one puzzle, I knew I had the right items but, because I didn't place them in the exact spot, they didn't work. It took me a long time to finally get past that point as I began to think I was doing the wrong thing. The game does offer a spy glass that will circle whatever needs attention if you get stuck. There is also a lifesaver that, if you finally give up, will let you skip the puzzle entirely. I admit I used the lifesaver twice. I guess it might be considered cheating but it is better than not being able to advance the story until you figure out a puzzle or someone posts the answer on the net. While it took me several evenings to finish the game (I'm not as quick at solving puzzles as most people), after finishing it I played it through a different way and it probably took me less than an hour; that's how short it is. The dialogue choices don't seem to make a difference until the final choice. There are two possible endings to the game. I believe the best games are the ones you want to play again. Although I played this game twice, it was only to see if it would change with different choices. Being so short, I figured why not see another ending. It is too stale of a game to want to play again down the line. Pick this one up used if you find the Titanic theme intriguing; otherwise, use these reviews like the lifesaver in the game, and skip it entirely.

I enjoyed this game for the few hours it lasted. What little there was in the game was well done and I would have liked to have spent several more hours on it. I guess the makers of the game just didn't want to put the effort in to make it great because they assumed people would buy it anyway. It was very disappointed when it ended, I thought I must have accidentally skipped something! I would recommend the game to others, but not for [...]. I just wish there was more!

The four stars I gave this game comes from the fact that I enjoyed the look and 'atmosphere' or the game, and that it was a simple way to pass a couple hours.I started to play this months ago, got bored, and gave up, but last night I found it again and completed it in less than two hours. The puzzles were simple (made even easier by the 'hint' and 'skip' features). The characters were hardly engaging, and at times, annoying (the small child and the main character's husband being the most glaringly frustrating characters in the game). The end was an incredible letdown - the cutscenes were pretty to look at, but the ending was very brief, with none of the drama/horror of the event and only a passing mention of the sinking ship. The game could have been a lot better, but if you can rent this or borrow from a friend, it's somewhat better than doing nothing at all.

don't pay full price...,

If you can get it cheap, this game will fill a few hours. I didn't find it very entertaining as I spent a lot of time wandering from scene to scene trying to figure out my next goal.If you don't hit the scenes in the same order that the game developers intend you to (although you pick the scene from a map and in some cases you are given no direction as to which scene will be most appropriate) then what you do in that room/scene may make no sense until later. Example (spoiler alert): by combining various inventory items in one scene I created a makeshift fire extinguisher, but had no idea why. Later I encountered a fire, so it became clear. But the creation of the fire extinguisher was more an accident (I was determined to try out various inventory items, because there didn't seem to be any other reason to be in the room/scene I was in) than a result of puzzle solving--since I didn't know what I was creating at the time. After discovering an online walkthrough for the PC version of this game, I realized that a lot of the puzzles (and probably a lot of the fun) got cut out of the DS version. I found the ending--which you'd think would be dramatic in a game about the Titanic--to be abrupt and lame and disappointing. I wouldn't recommend buying this game. Certainly don't pay full price. It's just not that entertaining. And it's not engrossing at all. I can't say for sure, but the PC/Mac version might be a better bet since it seems to have more puzzles included.

I picked this game up used and I'm glad I did. It could have been a fun game, but way too short. Even with some false moves I finished it way quick. (And my lifesaver 'solve the puzzle' icon didn't work.) I turned it in after playing it once. Whoever said 'Once is not enough' wasn't talking about this game.

I have bought some disappointing games but this is by far the most disappointing game ever. Nothing at all like the description. The mini games are almost non-existent, and those that are there might as well not be. No skill, logic, or thought involved. As for the description "Dialog choices give you options to follow different paths within the game and multiple endings are created based upon those choices" There are only a few places where you are given a dialog choice and having played the game twice (out of curiosity not enjoyment)I found your choice makes no difference at all, except for the very last scene. Your choice determines the last little puzzle you must solve but the outcome is the same regardless. Audio is awful. I usually pass my games on for friends to enjoy, but in this instance I wouldnt do that to my friends and I'd hate for them to know I was goofy enough to fall for the advertising hype. If you have money to throw away and a couple hours to waste this is the game for you otherwise you're better off watching paint dry.

I read all of the reviews for this game and was surprised that they were so bad. A few people rated it low because they could not figure some puzzles out and others thought that they were too easy.I personally did not purchase the game to solve the puzzles, but to see how they incorporated the story of the Titanic into a game. After finishing the DS version, I can tell you that I really enjoyed it. This is why I gave it 5 stars. The graphics / animation were well done and allowed you to picture yourself on board as the Titanic readies to leave port, the awe upon boarding, hitting the iceburg, and eventually when she sinks. The music blended into the different scenes and became faster paced when the ship begins to take on water. However, I could see where it might get annoying if you had trouble completing a puzzle, but your frustration probably comes from not getting it right away. If you get stuck, then look online for a walkthrough or ask questions to get past your difficulty. After that, then continue playing normally. The rating should not get lowered because a puzzle was difficult. This is not a game that is impossible to beat, it just takes patience. The length of time it will take you to finish the game is dependant on your puzzle solving ability. If you are good, then you will finish in a few hours. From what I understand, the Wii and PC version have additional puzzles and level of difficulty if you prefer. This is not a game that lends itself to repeated play, as the puzzles are exactly the same each time you play (Depending on final mission choice). Enjoy it the first time, then put it away to try again at some point in the future or play it to change how your character responds to the other characters. If you want a game with a well written story (Obvious ending) and a detailed environment (Graphics, Animation, Sound), then I would chose this game. If you want a really hard puzzler that will take you days to finish, then I might look elsewhere.

Hidden Mysteries Titanic was one of the shortest DS games that I have ever played. Although the graphics are nice and the hint options are helpful, the sound is really distorted. In order to hear what the character was saying I had to hold the DS up to my ear with the volume up all the way and it still was fuzzy. With this said, the most annoying aspect of this game was searching for hidden objects with the stylus. With other games while moving your stylus across the screen searching for objects, the screen image remains stable. With Titanic, the image on the screen moves in the direction that your stylus is moving for a jerky screen image...why was it designed this way? Really dissapointing.

Hidden object levels in this game were fine, but I was not expecting the complexity of the "in between" stuff. I can see where some people would love the in-depth "turn here, twist there, put this here to make that run" but it got really old really fast for me. I like to play games for the ease and fun of them, so I like the hidden object type games. But I found that this one was difficult to figure out what to do to complete a level. I'll say that, for those who are seeking more than a simple hidden object game, this would be a great choice. I had to consult online walkthroughs for help and found that some of the solutions, though difficult, were quite clever.
