Titanium Series Transformers 6 Inch Metal Cybertron Soundwave

First and foremost, this is not a toy. It is a collector's item, meant only for display purposes. Now, on to the figure.

Laserbeak:
A lot of people tend to complain about this particular Laserbeak, but I really don't mind it. Rather than being an accurate representation of the G1 character, I view him as a cute little accessory thrown in to make the product a bit mode interesting. I don't even mind the hole in its back in bird mode, nor his extreme lack of resemblance to a cassette tape. My only real gripe is that in order to get him to fit in Soundwave's chest/tape deck, you really need to squeeze him in there, which may or may not lead to severe stress marks.

Soundwave:
His alt mode is a bid obscure, but it's easy to tell what it's supposed to be. I call it a Cybertronian Boombox, because that's the only thing that qualifies. There are a few things I like about this toy that the G1 toy never really got: its legs can move up and down, whereas the G1 toy's legs could only rotate. I also like the replacement of the rub symbol on the tape deck with a permanent Decepticon symbol. My only real gripe in his alt mode is that he has no battery cover. Speaking of, the battery chamber is very well done, complete with positive and negative signs that tell you which way to put in the batteries. He also has a considerably detailed tape deck interior. His transformation is very much like his G1 toy, though a little bit different. Once this transformation is complete, you get a very meh robot mode. He has more than okay articulation in his arms, which are now on ball joints at the shoulders rather than hinges. Unfortunately, his legs are ratcheted to only two positions, locking nowhere in between. Same with the knees. Also, his three-tiered legs make him fairly difficult to stand up. Also, his hand gun does not fit in his hand very well. However, his shoulder gun seems to work just fine. And Laserbeak fits on his shoulder. (Just barely, mind you. He can only stay attached by one foot at a time.)

Overall, only buy this is you are a true Soundwave fan. Casual fans shouldn't take the risk.

Soundwave is one of the greatest characters the Decepticons had and now with this toy you can add a very poseable, articulate, and detailed figure to add to your collection. My only grief with this toy is that the laserbeak that comes with it does not resemble the G1 version and also I wish it would have been a little taller than 6 inches. I would have gladly paid an extra $10 bucks for a 10 inch version.

I was really excited to get this Titanium Soundwave - after all, the character's cool, and getting one of the old ones can be really expensive. But wow, was I ever let down!

To begin with, the figure's design is bad. He's oddly proportioned in both robot and radio modes, so he doesn't look good either way. The robot's legs are wildly oversized, and his hips/waist area is just loaded with kibble (that's the Transfan word for leftover bits from one mode that appear in the other). His hands have strange flaps over them, and his weapons look chunky in his grasp. And because his upper body is so heavy, the legs tend to collapse when you try to stand him up.

As a tape player, Soundwave is stretched out: he looks like a boombox, which isn't right. The tape player's door sticks out too far, and there's no cover for the batteries. His head is exposed, and so are his hands - despite the little flaps that are meant to hide them. Titanium Soundwave isn't a good robot, and he isn't a good tape player. Overall, he's just not a good Transformer.

I bought lots of toys last year, but only had to return ONE: that one was Titanium Soundwave, who is just a total letdown in every category. Save your money, save your time, and steer well clear of this bad toy.
