Tithing: Not a Personal Decision, but a Biblical Mandate!,
This review is from: Tithing : God's Financial Plan (Paperback)
As a pastor, I have tried over the years to explain the importance of tithing to my congregation - tithing is an act of obedience to God's Word. Even though I gave the message of tithing regularly, I continued to get questions from members who clearly misunderstood the message. A friend recommended Norman's book and after reading it, I purchased a copy for each family in my church. For many church members who already tithed, it was re-affirmation that what they had being doing was Biblical. For those who "tipped" God occasionally, the light went on: the very next week after giving out the books, I got lots of calls. People asked why I hadn't told them this stuff before - I had, just not as simply and clearly as this tithing book. The result to our church is an increase in tithes and cancellation of church debt. The result to our members is increase and promotion at work and in their businesses. This book is not the theological masterpiece of the century: it is a simple and easy to understand message about the truth of stewardship and tithing. It contains simple stories and illustrations about the benefits of tithing to the local church. As far as I can see (and I have talked with other ministers about this book) every point that Dr. Robertson makes in this book is backed by scripture! I encourage you to get this book and decide for yourself.

Not an instruction given to the Gentile Believers,
This review is from: Tithing : God's Financial Plan (Paperback)
Grace- means a gift unearned and not deserved. It is pathetic how many Christians have no clue on the differences in Old & New Covenants. They lack understanding of Grace vs Law. The Jews had 613 Laws to keep to be in Covenant with God, tithing food from their land was the least of them. The main one was Sabbath keeping which meant stop all activity from Friday @ 6p to Saturday @ 6p followed by circumcision of male infants on the 8th day of their life. Breaking these last two was punishable by death. Christians are you keeping the Sabbath and circumcision law? JAMES 2:10 to break one makes you just as guilty as if you broke them all. They were a package deal.Hebrew 8:6 "but now he (Jesus) has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises". It is clear that Jesus fulfilled the law in our place and He is our better Covenant than the old. We should all be thankful we do no have to keep 613 laws or be Stoned to Death. Now if that doesn't cause you to worship him in your giving then your motive is all wrong! If you are going to teach on New Covenant giving, at least teach it right by including those three very important words Jesus said on the Cross, "IT IS FINISHED." It is his finished work on the Cross that gives you the right to go to God for your answers to your prayer in Jesus name, free of charge. Romans 10:4 Christ is the end of the law for all who believe. He fulfilled the law and even said so as in It is finished, Paid in full! Also look up Galatians 2:16, Hebrews 8:7 Galatians 2:21, Galatians 3:13-14, Galatians 3:24 & 3:25 Christians learn the vast difference in Old vs New Covenant. Grace vs law. How God views us who are in Christ vs how he dealt with people before the Cross. Matthew 23:23 cannot be used to support mandated tithing since this was before Jesus died on the cross, before he died the law was still in place. I'm not against giving a tithe just trying to pay for free grace. Jesus did the paying. We have God's riches at Christ expense.

Tithing brings a curse,
By Modern Berean (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tithing : God's Financial Plan (Paperback)
I am absolutely amazed when I hear a preacher proclaim that Christians should tithe. Galatians 3:10-14 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because "the righteous will live by faith." The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, "The person who does these things will live by them." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole." He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.Tithing was a practice for Old Testament Hebrews, not Christians. This is something a first year theology student understands. If your pastor preaches tithing, get him one of the excellent studies, "Tithing in the age of grace", "Beyond tithes and offerings" or "Should the church teach tithing". Pastors are so scared of not preaching tithing because they think they'll lose financial support. I've tried giving some of these books to 6 pastors in the last 4 years. Only one of them had the courage to read one and admit his error to the fellowship. The Body of Christ needs to wake up, quit building monumental church buildings, and do the work of Christ i.e. feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick, etc. Matthew 25:41-45 "Then he will say to those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' "They also will answer, `Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' "He will reply, `Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
