A tribute to the great Tito Puente conducted by multi-Grammy
nominee Bobby Sanabria. The band is cooking, the recording is
excellent this is Latin jazz at its best. A classic recording!

I really don’t understand the review by the gentleman that gave this CD only one star. He claims this is not Puente music. But Picadillo, Cuban Nightmare, Mambo Adonis, Mambo Beat, Elegua-Changó, Alegre Cha-Cha-Cha, Ran Kan Kan are ALL Puente compositions! Autumn Leaves, Me acuerdo de ti, Bohemia After Dark and Ritual Fire Dance are all pieces that HE recorded!

I am also concerned about the reviewer’s knowledge of Bobby Sanabria and his music because Bobby Sanabria's father is NOT Juanito Sanabria (he is not related to any of the Sanabrias in the music world). As well, I am concerned about this reviewer’s knowledge of Latin or Afro-Cuban jazz. He writes that Puente didn’t have Afro-Cuban jazz as a major component of his repertoire—Puente was the FOREMOST proponent of Afro-Cuban jazz—even Mario Bauzá who created the genre with Machito states that Puente is one of the best players of this genre. Actually Puente was from East Harlem—born and raised—the same place where Afro-Cuban jazz was created. Puente being Puerto Rican (or in this case Nuyorican) has nothing to do with his knowledge of the music or his repertoire. One should give honors where they are due. Puente was a major innovator of Afro-Cuban jazz; and Sanabria and his students are following in that tradition.

This CD was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2011 and critically acclaimed by reviewers and by the members of the Puente family who were at the performance. It's virtuosic in its execution (this student band performs on the level of professional bands) and an incredible tribute to El Maestro.

An homage to Maestro Tito Puente. The live performance and the audiences cheering make for a truly great listening experience.
Bobby Sanabria leads this band with precision and extreme musicality. Bravo!

Sanabria has taught and inspired this orchestra to preserve and carry on with great authenticity the spirit of Tito Puente--a giant, who would be exuberant and proud to have his name associated with this dynamic young orchestra and its extraordinary interpretation and killer performance. This is a BLASTING LASTING CD to keep on top of the stack with the greats!
